Yes, but when some enemies are utterly uninterested in sex the fact that they're in a porn game does not matter. Shockingly, the devs have decided that they aren't going to allow you a single build that will work in all situations, as part of the gameplay balancing act..
But they did allow it. If you make a good Health combat build, it
is going to work in all situations because enemies that are resistant to Health combat are super weak to Resolve damage. I meet a slime with my Health combat party? I Tease it a few times and it's gone. And that's fine, no build should have to endure enemies that it just can't beat, especially if it's a random encounter.
Is the reverse true? If you meet something that's highly resistant to Resolve combat, is it super weak to Health combat? Nope. You meet a Golem, it's completely immune to Resolve
and extremely resistant to Health combat. It's functionally invincible.
The Health combat party gets to do whatever they want, the Resolve combat party gets hardblocked. That's not balanced.
Soul Arrow works wonders on Sigrune though, if you want to get past her with a sqishier or lower-leveled party. Well, it's probably no longer quite as good after a couple rounds of combat rebalancing but it's still a viable skill to use against enemies with less Resolve than Health and who can't be defeated by shaking your ass at them.
That's true, but can an entire ability's existence be justified because it's good in one encounter? Soul Arrow is otherwise pretty bad, and thematically it doesn't fit into a sexy build
at all, if you're trying to seduce something the last thing you want to do is magically induce a headache.
That's another issue with the tiny selection of Resolve abilities, actually. There are two types of powers that attack Resolve (those that cause lust, and those that cause mental pain and terror) and they're thematically opposed.
Given that all the abilities that cause pain and terror are garbage, wouldn't it be better if Resolve were strictly a Lust thing?
Or maybe the whole Resolve system is still on the chopping block... it would be sad, but given that it currently rests on two strong powers and nothing else, I think it's a real possibility. There's comparatively very little investment into it, and I suspect no one wants to balance it (understandably, balance is super hard), so it might just get trashed at some point.
