1. It seems both the focuses and addictions are the source of grief for everyone given what I'm looking at. Don't worry - we'll be diving into those to give them a stronger design.

2. Insatiable is the starting trait you're thinking of. I've seen a few things Nymphomania is attached to in terms of mechanics. I want to preserve that but also streamline it.

3. The characters I listed are generally incomplete and are missing quite a many things that the rest have (Rooms to visit, dialogue and scenes, addictions or foci.)

4. As I said - That's my fault. I forgot her. Oops. Breeder is pretty strong but that's because Kat has about half a dozen traits attached to her pheromones.

5. I'm not really sure what to think about Cassie. She's not my favorite but canonically she's a character that deserves more attention, since I think she has a crush on the MC. She's also quite a caregiver, so I want to work with that.

I'm confused, just got back to this game in like a year. Is this game dead or just on a long break? I see activity on the forum. Did other people take over the project and are they updating it somewhere else?

@saikosan Technically Yes. Completely? No.

Anyways, from the looks of it I guess there's general agreement that training Willpower should give more willpower. However, the way attributes are trained seems to be getting in the way of me actually changing the amount of willpower you gain from selecting that button. I might have to dig a bit deeper or rewrite the whole thing to do what I want it to do.

I'm thinking of buffing Sacrifice and Determination: Thoughts?

BTW Please don't do this:

Q: What does this resolve to?

getSelf().restoreWillpower(c, 2 + x / 10);

A: The answer is I DON'T CARE USE PARENTHESES!

Here's a real question, though:

Are there any skills or effects that you think should have 0 effect when the target is in a particular state?

I think they're really in a serious brain-storming phase where they're trying to revamp the game to make it even more interesting than it already is. Unfortunately this creates the illusion of inactivity to the casual players here. But I suspect they are still actively working out kinks in the system. It could be that the kinks are troublesome and or they're trying to come up with an innovative way to improve the game even. I look at the feedback and ideas that continuously accumulate in here as a positive sign that it is still a very active project. Sometimes it is difficult to complete specific goals within a short period of time. It could take months of gradual work to finally get it all together. I'm sure we'll appreciate it when they do finally release a new update to this game mod.

The code the game is built on lacks structure, making it confusing, difficult, and even demoralizing to add new features. Until this is resolved, progress will be slow and contributors will lose interest. I'm attempting to rewrite the core to be more robust and easier to work with, but rewrites always take a long time and I have tried it before unsuccessfully. My current effort is going much better, thankfully.

P.S. This is not a knock on anyone else who worked on this game. This happens to a lot of projects that become very successful: They outgrow their initial structure. The current code did its job of running a game that a lot of people clearly enjoy!

I'd like to echo that point - Nightgamesmod has been a source of pleasure for a while - but as Ryplinn says, we've naturally gotten to a point where adding or maintaining features can be really hard, impossible, or exhausting - necessitating a rewrite in several places in order to organize and simplify everything. We're not mocking anyone who's ever contributed thusfar - but this is definitely something that requires some stepping up and with good communication and design and a bit of time NGM will be way way better.

Known Issue:

The reason I think Maya's and Eve's new focus scenes play out of order has to do with the way the game checks the conditions for scenes. When a high level character suddenly enters the games, they may already have the requirements for both. This causes trouble. Additional control should be added to all characters so when they are put into the game at a high level this doesn't happen.

Can someone link the latest RC for those of us who haven't been keeping up to date?

Top of page 74, for future reference. Here's a copy/paste of what I posted. Remember, RC's will be much buggier than the normal builds...

There's a release candidate for 2.6 out (two RC's actually).

https://mega.nz/#!BR5ETIpC!OV8-iDelbC9Osjn6sAvQzs7dhsfJBcEZfv6y8X9cWfw is RC1
https://mega.nz/#!BMRUSS5Y!Wp_F5NsTiLcg7r9qxnxP9g-0E9UcyGkcQk20nAALkjc is RC2
https://mega.nz/#!xFIRgRAS!EBovAmFL0-5Zn_H6u7JAwW7axAEEwPvuNbRFeQ1mdC8 is RC2 with a couple test starts that may or may not be that stable according to dndw.

Hiya. Been more than a while, so its nice to see this is still going.

Since there doesn't appear to have been too many updates since I left, I'll go ahead and add some more viewpoints to the surveys.

So background. My experience comes from games that last till about the 30s before I start a new character. By and large, most of my characters left Power at 16 and at least tried to focus Cunning a little bit. I picked Hard for all of the NPC's first specialization choices, so I may tend to have more traits than some. Every character always took Shameless. I abused the Daytime system and reloaded the game whenever I didn't get at least 1 attribute point from Daytime activities, so I may be above the bar Attribute points-wise as well. Further, I typically ran straight for every single cache that appeared, and used the excess money to buy even more Attribute points. I pretty much never used the Porn or Exercise options unless I wanted Yui.

So which Character felt the most powerful? Going off of my games, Kat wasn't very hard. She was very easy to Face-sit her Willpower into oblivion and anything she did could usually be Reversal'd. There were times Pheromones did some ridiculous things, but she was not usually who I was afraid of. Angel was usually not terrible as any female character can Breast Smother her to stop her Tempts, anyone who didn't care about her...um...Silvertongue? Expert Tonguework? Whichever Daytime activity she gave, if you didn't get the Trait from her, she didn't get it either, which left her open to Face-sitting which also stops Tempts. The Dark Talismans with Force Dismiss that were always lying around basically sealed the deal. Mara was Face-sit fodder, Shame is an incredible debuff. These general tactics were usually good enough that even if I messed up w/e real strategy I had, I could just fall back on these.

But for me, Reyka was by far the scariest NPC, mostly because of her random Charms and Enthralls for days. I don't think I ever developed a way to play around it. You could Face-sit...but you don't want to Face-sit Reyka at later levels. You can Breast Smother, but not everyone has breasts, and getting into an appropriate position was sometimes a problem. It sometimes felt like it mostly came down to "take Quick Recovery and Skeptical on every character and hope you don't just randomly lose." Most of the other characters don't seem to get near as much power from double specialization as Rekya does throughout the mid-game.

Airi was also sometimes difficult as well, but her difficulty felt fair and fun. I weirdly don't remember much about her difficulty besides that. Cassie and Jewel were never memorable. Past the early game, they never felt threatening, but they didn't feel as weak as Mara.

Its worth noting that I think Face-sit is a bit too powerful though. It's stacking Shame can carry any build through the early and mid game, and the way it tears through Willpower is really, really strong. All that and it does good temptation damage too.

Which Attribute type? Nymphomania by far. It regens her Willpower on orgasm I think, and that's about all I know about it. xD

Strongest Addiction was Rekya, but that's probably at least partially because random Charms and Enthralls could put you in situations that you couldn't really avoid it. That and that you couldn't actually get it cured either. I actually sometimes sought out Angel's addiction, was actually helpful. I suspect Jewel's might be too sometimes.

On updating characters, I like Rosea the best, but that's mostly just because I like the sound of her skills more than anything. If that were aside, Maya seems the most interesting as a character.

Mechanics that need the most work: Addictions! Oh god addictions, for all the reasons already known. Following that, Attribute stuff and Status Effects seem the most important.

On Sacrifice and Determination: The skills have always felt fair to me, but I think they work on flat amounts so my experience of only playing to really early late game experience may not be helping here.

On skills having less effect in particular states: I've always felt it was kinda weird that Dark Tendrils 'trips' people who are already in various prone positions, but I feel like that's not the kind of thing you're really asking for.

Worth noting that this isn't actually the case any more from what I can tell. Dark Tendrils doesn't seem useable from these positions at all anymore. Seems odd that you can't just use it as a binding ability from those positions though.

Also, for anyone playing a Science character, navigate to "your game folder"/data/clothing/defaults.json, open it with wordpad or something, and ctrl + f to tentacletop. Above that point, in the "slots" category, delete the listing for bottom and save the file. This will let Living Clothing: Other do what it seems like it is supposed to do.

Latest commit contains LEVEL_DRAIN_LINERs for Maya and Eve, with some edits for Angel, Jewel, and Mara.

I might want to make sure all characters have some of these shared lines, perhaps lines if different types depending on transformation state.

So after the recent discussion about addictions, I restated and gave my character all the addiction causing traits. Maya's causes the scene to play from Maya's point of view even if the player is causing it. Kat's breeder is pretty confusing, aside from adding bite I'm not sure what it does. I decided to give up on those and restart with Zeal Inspiring, Dominatrix, and Magic Milk. These all seemed pretty bad when the NPCs used them, but a player with all 3 isn't really that overpowered. Zeal doesn't seem to do anything unless you have the a blessed pussy or sacred ass. Even then it doesn't seem to do much besides cause the NPC to occasionally lie down or switch from dominate to submissive. The blessed cock can enhance the zeal addiction but it can't cause it, so unless you let NPC cum inside you it will never do anything with addiction. Dominatrix I think is supposed to stop the mojo gain when the user is dominant, but despite getting this message every time I was on top the NPC still seemed to get enough mojo to do whatever they wanted. Magic Milk is the only one that really does much. After getting an NPC addicted to your milk they constantly lose willpower until they drink again. This sounds awesome but the NPCs just tend to attack your breasts a lot and keep refreshing it so the addiction never really activates. Magic Milk was only really a game changer when I combined it with Angel's worship traits, this caused girls to keep sucking my character's tits and orgasming without me having to do anything for entire matches.

Also it seems as though addictions for NPCs are tracked in the save file, but they very rarely carry over from one night to the next. Loading a save with a NPC with addictions doesn't seem to do anything since the girl will start out with nothing regardless of the magnitude of the addiction.

Working as mostly intended as the player was never meant to be able to use any of them.

According to the github graph Ryplinn has been hacking away since Feb- are those changes going to be merged in?

Someday.

There's still a lot more reworking to do, followed by catch-up on new features. Don't hold your breath--I have a health condition that makes me pretty dumb these days (oxygenated blood is important, y'all), so progress is slow.

I really wish I had more time to contribute more to the GUI. I never even finished what I started.

In particular, the intro screen and the fight menu still feel super janky even after all this time.

If someone wants to try to implement my idea for it, it was pretty much a multilayered pie menu similar to the one you see on Blender (the 3d creation software). First layer would be you/enemy, then body part selection, then action on said body part. This would probably cover most cases, additional sections could be added to fit more unique cases. The menu would be persistent so you could theoretically just keep clicking the same spot to advance combat while repeating the same action, which imo would be a huge QOL improvement.

I've not completely given up on working on this some more but it is entirely clear to me right now that as long as I have my current work schedule I won't be able to come anywhere near it, and at best it's not going to lighten up for another year (at worse it will only get worse).

What happened to nergantre?
Haven't heard from him in awhile.
Said something about going back into working on things, and to expect more updates.
Been months though, so I'm a bit worried about him...
I would hate for a repeat of what happened to the developer of Mutant Minx Meltdown.
He disappeared for years before even showing up again.
I hope life isn't kicking his ass too much...

Can i find the source code of the original game somewhere? I did some googling and also did search on here but couldn't find anything.
I'm kinda a noob at coding still, but I wanted to try my luck at maybe implementing the new updates to this mod.

I recommend you consider working on content and not code - here's why:

1. It's spaghetti enough as is and we're trying to fix just that.
2. Content is easier than code. I'd much rather see people contribute fanart of the characters or scenes.
3. TSB is active on NG again, which is having a chilling effect on working on the mod.
4. Of the 4 or 5 people currently around, only 2 are communicating changes they want to make, making merging and managing the project a PITA .....because the game is spaghetti.
5. The core problems the game require Ryplinn's work to be ready to merge first before we overhaul them. I'd rather direct people to assist Ryplinn, first.

Speaking of Number 4 - I can see witchlook and gmcgu have stuff going. Witchlook removed and reimplemented quests. I'd merge that up, I'd have to settle conflicts in character files which are already going to be present in Ryplinn's work and my work.

Please talk to each other!

This is all over the place. It's nice that people want to help, but as someone who wants to help, I can't help but notice that we're all touching everything and leaving it to whoever to deal with whatever we fucked with. This is exactly why I stopped doing my stuff - I'm fine waiting on the program overhaul to be done so people can fuck with things in relative isolation. We should probably get that done, first before we start doing anything else such as fixing how content is displayed, how time is kept, how addictions and effects work, ETC.

Yea, but coding is the only way I can contribute, since neither can I do digital art nor write scenes.
I've got plenty of time on my hand atm, so I could learn things to help out with whatever is needed.

Also if communication is an issue maybe, we could start a discord or smth? Dunno how you guys are doing it right now.

I've been out for a year, too. When you say you want content, what kind of stuff? I made a character back in the September before last? Do you want me to refactor her and give her images and stuff? Did you just want UI stuff for the game? What kind of "content" are you talking about?

"Content" usually involves the following:
1. Scenes.
2. Characters.
3. Items.
4. Possible events/area's being added.
5. New attack and defense moves being thought up to later be added.

UI changes would involve coding existing content that is currently being fixed up since it is such a mess.
The other things are easier to add.
Also I believe he said it would be better to work on content because after you are done writing said content, they would then work on seeing if it can be added without much hardship.

The current code is a mess so bad it makes one question when it started.
So writing words rather than coding sequences seems like the better choice.
Since until the internal workings are fixed into a usable version it's not like any content will even be added yet.
Just working on code will just increase the chances of something breaking again like in a few earlier builds.
Anyways if content is worked on now without code, at least when the game is fixed up the updates will be added in rather quickly.

Generic character additions are dubious due to the contrast of their mostly-normal abilities being under-powered compared to the absolute sex beasts you end up fighting normally that have multiple layers of mechanics. That's if any writers manage to figure out how to both code and debug them on their own. The only contributions that would feel like they matter is the female-PC scene alternatives. It makes me think generics should function closer to skins that mimic their archetype NPC with slight chances to skills and weights.

That's kind of a neat idea. I can make girls you can buy, but all they are is Samantha 2. There's no real incentive to play with them. We need a way to have access to daytime interactions or something or it's boring from a writing perspective (nothing we write changes or progresses anything) because you just end up with a stat swapped skin - if there was a clear way to add in daytime events for the character in their JSON, it might be more tempting for people to get writing more girls (or guys, whatever)

On top of that, the call for art should be answered by someone ponying up a lot of cash and commissioning which no one really wants to do, so we'll wait for 50 different artists to donate one piece each and end up with a similar situation to the current one.

Scenes for the already existing characters exist at the behest of the main mod squad to put in, and they're saying to wait for the other changes to be implemented first. Is there any way a switch could be flipped so we could get daytime events for girls from their JSON? That would open up a lot of doors for game modding opportunity without messing with the fight code too much.
