There was a poll done for this on the last forums, but it's been quite a while since one was done and it would be interesting to see if the demography has changed or not since then.

EDIT: Since I worded the poll poorly, "Think of myself as" can also be interpreted as "identify as". It's whatever you'd prefer people treated you as and felt about yourself when it comes to gender. The question is, "What is your birth sex and what's your gender?"

EDIT2: The last two options are for if you don't identify as male and only male, or as female and only female. Any other gender identity or combination is covered by those last two options, as it is impractical to list all possible identities in the poll.

I finally set my gender on my profile so why not! Born Male and I think of me, myself, and I(I wont bore anyone with the why of this) as a male too, though I try to be a bit more open minded wouldn't be here if I wasn't.

I can recall the broad strokes of that poll, but couldn't give you exact numbers.

• Biggest section was born male, think of self as male (~60-80%)
• Then born female, think of self as female (~10-20%)
• Then born male, think of self as female (~5-15%)
• Then other - the original poll didn't take birth sex into account here (~5-15%)
• Then born female, think of self as male (< 5%)

You can get the poll that fenoxo did on the main blog, but that one didn't distinguish between birth sex and personal gender.

Female, both inside and out. I prefer to be called as such as well most of the time.
I'm more lax about it with close friends though, I don't care what they call me because they pretty much know my real gender identity (That being a girl). I'm comfortable around them doing it because they know me and I'm alright with it.
But strangers and those not in my circle, plz refer me as female 24/7.

Though I play as male in a lot of games, especially porn games. I prefer to envision myself as the guy I'm playing because it's easier for me to get off to it, I can't get off at all if I play as a girl.

Even when ur asking it online, it could be a little awkward depending on the person. I suggest asking other questions and figuring it out for urself.

At Italki, you would know if the person was male or female by clicking onto their photo and reading their details. It would be impolite to ask anyone this question face to face.It makes me think you're looking at me but can't decide if I'm male or female. (I'll grow a beard.

Minor Quibble it may have changed things up a little if the last 2 options included the word "exclusively".
I would consider myself mostly male, which was neatly summarized by a colleague to a new-start as follows
"He is a man just a different kind of man; what he is not is a bloke or a guy or any of that; but what he is is a person who will give you worryingly good advice on what colours and outfits work for you."

The last two options are pretty broad, since there's no reasonable way to cover all of the possible personal identities. They're essentially for if you don't think any of the previous options fit you.

Except gender identity doesn't fit into those categories that neatly. Genderqueer (or Non Binary) people may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression.

You might have genderfluid people. You might have an agender person. You might have far more ways to describe a person's gender identity.

That's my fault. The intention is identify as, but I didn't think to use that wording at the time I posted the thread. The question is intended to be, "What is your birth sex and what is your gender?"

cis/trans is a way shorter and clear cut way to say it. "I was told Im a boy from birth and I agree" = cis man

I'm pleasantly surprised it was only the one person, if I'm honest.

And for myself, I make no secret here that I'm a trans guy. Just seems kind of pointless. I'm only 'stealth' on more openly public sites like facebook and twitter because I don't want an employer to find out... But eh, if they find out I write for a porn game I wouldn't get hired anyway //shrugs.
IRL, I wont lie, I don't pass at all. I've been stuck on a waiting list just for an appointment to assess me for HRT for months.

I would just like to add my general joy at having reached a point where we are able to have a civil conversation on the subject and recognize a plurality of views. Where what you consider yourself is more valid than what another tells you you are. Believe me this is a relatively new thing.
I am so old and decrepit as to be on forums since the 90's, they just were full of angry young men or maybe the screams of those men just filled the space and no one else spoke.
I have a weird pride that the forum has reached a circa 20% female representation, heck I would prefer more but it is a reasonable quorum. I still remember the funny feeling I had the first time a post saying "That's Gay" was replied to with "No it's not, I'm a girl!"

I hope that makes some sense to somebody, just felt the need to express.

I... Ultimately don't know.
While I have a friend who's a trans woman, like me, she's not on HRT yet, so I can't physically make any comparisons.
However it's possible.
Testosterone often causes a trans man's voice to drop just like a cis man's voice breaking, but once a trans woman's voice has broken no amount of Oestrogen will naturally make it higher. Vocal training is a thing that exists, but ultimately seeing as trans men are less likely to need it, in terms of voices yes, it's probably easier for a trans man to pass after HRT.
Testosterone can also cause people to grow. I'm not even 20 yet, so there's a possibility I might get an inch or two (wishful thinking I know, but my 12 year old brother is catching me up... let me have something). Oestrogen can't make you shrink though. As men are usually assumed to be taller than women, regardless of this is accurate or not, as trans women aren't going to change height due to HRT, trans men may be slightly more likely to so might be minimally more likely to pass.

Ulimately it's chance though. Some trans women pass better than trans men and vice versa and whether or not someone 'passes' or not depends on the person looking at them. Some people assume I'm a guy (to my delight) with only a binder and short hair. But some people just think I'm a girl with small tits from the same appearance.

From what I heard when I had an interest in transitioning myself it generally is easier for trans men to pass.

Considering Moto spent 2 days bitching about the phrasing of the poll when the intent was fairly obvious, I'd say the "civil conversation" is debatable. Especially on a forum that typically avoids the more polarized issues of the world and experiences far fewer shit shows than most sites. Having undeserved anger appear from the opposite direction doesn't make it any less irrational.
And judging by polls on the previous forum as well as Fen's poll, we've pretty much always had about 20% of the community being women. That just seems to be the ratio at which Fen's games attract people. Although the number of males that identify as women seems to have increased lately, but that could be just because relatively few people responded so far. If you want more women then write content that appeals to a greater number of women.
