Which parts? I image edit and do my png->gif conversions in photoshop, and the desktop version of COC2 will accept either format, even though it requests pngs. Gifs are super small, so you can go way over the 100x100 suggested limit, and the result generally looks better in game.

The actual editing process necessary to selectively target border pixels to darken them is frankly something that would require a tutorial. I really just wanted to point out that saving as gif will result in smaller file sizes, so you can include way more in it. Less fuzzy.

I don't know why they specified 100x100 - possibly a design goal for uniformity's sake, or just an estimate for how big you could probably get a png without it going over the file size limit. Here's three game-ready versions of your image, two of which are up to 250x250:

Bizarre.

I've been making .png files around 120 to 140 pixels a side, and it seems like the game will either stretch or crush your image to about 120 or 124 pixels (hard to tell since the round frame "eats" part of the image anyway). Logically you wouldn't want to use a file with a lower resolution, which is irritating because it's right on the edge of how much you can grab without exceeding the absurdly low 30kb limit.

I had no idea .gif files worked. I wonder why the game only says .png if gifs work too...

Probably just a placeholder system. They're working hard on content, polish is likely to come very late in development.

Finding more pics I liked was surprisingly hard. Turns out that black outlines (which I like to make the pictures more COC2-y) shrink together with the picture and become blurry. I tried to compensate for that.

Anyhow, more guys! Catboys and lupines galore!

I found someone called koutanagamori on Deviantart who makes pretty good pictures, some of which with one color background which made it easier for me to turn them into proper icons. The second to last pic is one of his. Kazashino (last picture) also makes great stuff but they're almost too realistic for my taste.

I use gimp for my icons and I found that you can compress the file size by not saving the picture's exif data and thumbnail when exporting. That way I was able to cut the size of many icons in half. I also experimented with darkening border pixels and giving pictures stronger borders and the results were good even if the process was a little overinvolved.

I chose the last one but the second to last is actually better and I am going to use the first cat boy one I hope one with a short beard pops up. My Catfolk self insert has one, but my lupine one doesn't, a wolf with a beard looks weird when I think about it.

Thank you so much for this advice I'm using procreate and I had no Ideal that changing to gif would allow me a better picture unfortunately I can only go up too 200 × 200 but the difference is night and day :)

This is the blonde one so far I can change the shade of yellow if you want I can also make the lines darker the black ones is a bit more difficult because I have to do the lines straight away because they blend in too much to the color of the fur as you can see.

sorry if it looks a little rushed I was wanting to get feedback before I got to far in :)
