Number two on the big list of things that give it that certain feeling would be how you include a bunch of friends whose only real purpose is to constantly talk about your character, provide exposition about her, and generally come off as if their wallflower friend is the center of their existence. If you're writing scenes with a group the group should have a dynamic and, in a more freeform game like this, ideally have their own content. Think of Anno and Kaede: Kaede doesn't just exist to tell you things about Anno or hype her up, she exists as her own person and has her own scenes as well as a dynamic with Anno that isn't just "constantly agreeable and supportive". She also has her own scenes. If you're writing for a game like this where almost everyone can be fucked you have to consider a player who doesn't like your precious but finds one of your tertiary characters interesting. If you don't want to write scenes where they're more than someone who jerks off your baby then do you really need them? Should three be combined into two or one? Should they be cut?
Get a better example. Anno and kaede are the worst example of 'just friends' characters. Hell, a better comparison would be Sera and the white rahn, and/or Fix, the cat boy from the party; both are side characters that support a more 'main' characer, but don't have tens of thousands of words focused on them.
Edit: Also, saying characters aren't needed if they don't fuck the PC/have more expansive content is stupid. That would make world building impossible as no one would have friends, they'd all be lovers or fuckbuddies, and no one would have preferences. Sorry, but not every character with a name is going to want to fuck Steele.
