Alexander chuckles at his sister, "You know that is one of the reasons people joke that our genders were somehow switched, you act more like a guy than I do most of the time, not to mention you hit on women as much you do men if not more," he shakes his head as he puts down his empty plate, takes another swallow of his drink, and opens the requested book and flips to the section on dryads, "Let's see, well according to this the basics of a dryad are that they are the personification of a region with weaker dryads representing a singular entity, such as the stereotypical tree but can be any plant with sufficient magic, while older and/or stronger dryads can represent larger grouping like a glade, meadow, or cave, and the strongest can be have dominion over entire forests, cavern systems, or any other vast section of nature. There are even theories that dryads could be over entire continents and the Gaia and Ceres was once a once dryad that had dominion over the whole planet before ascending as a goddess, same with Ceres though she is lesser so probably only a large fertile region of a continent."
He flips forward through the pages, "As you are aware dryads, even the weakest, have affinity for life and nature magic, this includes fertility, communion with animals, growth, and healing which I guess we're somehow combined to do what was done to you. Some dryads have been known to have other powers as well such as fire and earth so you might not be limited to just the basic set and it will take some experimentation and practice, plus you come develop more as you get stronger."
Alexander pauses as he takes another drink, looking over at his sister as she listens, her own meal finished, and then gets back to the book, "Speaking of strength and regions we get to the concerning part, dryads need to be bound to a place of nature such as the ones described previously. According to this book newborn dryads are usually bound to a new seedling, or appropriate substitute, and grow with it. However some dryads can become unbound and if they survive the experience they must rebind to another force of nature or they actually will die. Now I know you love your freedom and enjoy being around people so here is some good news, first is that while bound you can move about thata certain distance that can be increased with the range of you dominion, a tree can't go to far from that tree but one over a forest has no limit inside it, and the power you have can increase the range past that point, very powerful dryads of ancient trees have been known to travel hundreds of miles away from their tree much less high or arch dryads. Second is that as a newborn and unbound dryad you should have a year or so, some dryads traveling with others have somehow had even longer, before you feel the need and you should know when your time is coming up." He himself is actually a little concerned with this part but they had always spoke about moving, even though they never made solid plans, so this just gave them a very good reason to go. Even if she wanted to bind here she should still try and learn more about her new race and power elsewhere and he was obviously going with her.
He shakes his head to get rid of his musings and get back to the book. "Some things of note, dryads can bind beings of nature, like as plants, such as vines monster that captured you, trees, animals, and insects, to be their pets or familiars. This binding not only gives them some authority over it, more with pets than familiars, but also increases their power and can give them sentience, more so with familiars than pets. It also binds the beings lifespan with the dryad so they will only die naturally of the dryad does which gives them a good reason to protect the dryad. Their fertility magic is also rather impressive since they are capable of allowing two women or beings of two incompatible species to have children, some dryads use this themselves if they either don't like men or if their is a lack of them, but it is, oddly, extremely difficult for two dryads to have children together. This means most dryads that are around civilization can count on some income or offerings from prospective couples who have either had trouble, want a guarantee, or are usually incapable biologically."
He looks up from the book to glance at Zoe, "Anything you want me to look more closely at? Personally I found the part about familiars interesting and it referred to another section so there looks to be more on it. There was also more on known powers and abilities along with a more in-depth look into rankings and hierarchy. Honestly this book is mostly about dryads and the creatures around them."
(Let me know if I am putting too much down.)
