I'm with you on not being too fond of either choice. A point in favor of having a PC resolution option is that it is possible to have removed Evelyn and bimbo'd Azzy leaving you with no choice at all to complete the quest. There's also the case where you only have Evelyn as an option and if you enjoy her base content as is, then you may want not want to gift her the dragon spear which also means leaving the quest unfinished.

If we can't pull the spear out ourselves and don't want to or can't gift the spear to someone else, then I think it should be possible for the PC to look into other options. A good bet would be seeking out Sanders, he's a good egg and seems like he would do his best to help you aid Ashe. Or if all else fails, maybe a mercy killing would be necessary to end her suffering.

Thanks for the info, but now I'm even more confused about what metric the spear uses to determine who is royalty or not. Does bloodline matter if Caits royal lineage is too thin? If that's the case, does that mean any ol' Vesparan can pluck the spear out since they're all descended from a hornet queen? If having territory and people under your command isn't important, then could someone like the Drider Queen take it as well because she's technically a queen in the same vein as a hornet queen? I'm not surprised that there's been discussion about this on the Discord server, the dang thing doesn't make much sense. Like why the heck does it give the owner dragon powers to begin with if it is seemingly jotun in origin? Is it possible for Azzy to turn into a full dragon like Evelyn can or did the power manifest in different ways? So many questions...

As for the TF that's nice to hear but doesn't really scratch the same itch as being an actual dragon does. Still good to have that option.

More on the idea of a corrupt PC resolving the quest by claiming the spear for themselves, becoming a corrupt dragon could be an alternative to soulbinding. Spoilered below is how I think it could realistically be handled:

• Permanent Dark Knight personality, Corruption can no longer go below 50
• Height +2 feet
• Tone +30
• Permanent dragon arms, legs, tail, eyes, wings, ears, and horns
• Scale color set as black, red, or purple

You'd be stuck with dragon bits and a 'conqueror' personality, but you'd be able to shrink back down with TFs if you wanted your evil dragon to be a short king or shortstack and you'd still be able to give your scales a dye job if the colors aren't you. Similar to how Keros can reincarnate you if foreign TFs somehow sneak in, you'd be able to reflect upon the spear and have your form reset.

As for consequences, you would be locked out of Ashe and be unable to be godsworn. The excuse could be that your draconic/conqueror nature refuses to let you take their oath since being bound by them may impede your future conquests.

In return. you'd be able to temporarily assume the form of a full dragon for sex scenes with larger npcs like the jotuns, kobold queen, or the behemoth. I'd also put up Daliza as a candidate for some dragon loving. You'd receive a set of dragon powers like a unique version of Dragon's Breath that dishes out blight/fire (unholy flame) damage instead of just fire and have it scale with either attack power or spellpower, whichever is highest. The ultimate could be you assuming your full dragon form for X amount of turns, with X being your character level.

There hasn't really been a definitive answer to the royalty question, as far as I can tell. Tobs posited that there's an inherent quality to royalty, divinely given, that makes these high-status people suited to rule and also gives them the ability to pull out the spear. But then the question is "so what's up with the hornets then?" And the answer given thus far is shrug

Another dev has posited that Ahmri could be an option, though it seemed like idle musing rather than "and I will be the one to write this and it's definitely getting into the game". And the writer for Lyla said they believe she could count and might check with Savin about it.

My takeaway is that it's arbitrary magic powered by plot convenience, and it will turn out that any character who has an author willing to do the work will qualify for spear removal.

All that being said, it's entirely possible that there is an in-universe explanation that explains how Azyrran is royal enough to remove the spear because hornets call themselves Queens rather than Jarls, and Cait isn't royal enough because the spear can tell when your bloodline isn't in power anymore, and I just haven't heard it or thought of it.

Also, I would be cautious about loading up expacs for the spear. While we do need at least one for the people who managed to lock themselves out of Azzy and Eve, any third option written for the spear will need to compete with a mutually exclusive companion set and personality, and a really hot Evelyn expac with massive implications for the world going forward. No matter how good another option is, it probably won't be seen by a lot of players.

Savin didn't say, but given that community-written TF items get into the game with some regularity I'm going to speculate that the submission just didn't meet quality standards and there's nothing precluding the possibility of a mecian TF getting into the game at some future date.

But yes, Ryn high on Spear Power would probably be closer to Anni than Alissa, but since Ashe absolutely won't let her touch the thing and Ryn is such parser soup that more variables to track for the entire game would probably murder Savin, it's sort of moot.

Nevertheless, the fact that the game even introduced something as major as an "magical residue that threatens to blow up the city" to a quest line that in no shape or form needed just leaves me scratching my head. Of course people are going to ask "what will happen if we do not deal with nuclear holocaust waiting to happen." And that fact that it does not exist if we decide to not build the temple (because of meta contextual reasons) is just poor design in terms or narative. I wish there was a quest or something (nothing major) that leads us to exploring those ruins and getting rid of the strange flux happening there. Throw in a mcguffin and, voila, there it goes. As it is now, it is just lazy.

Word of god is nice and all, but that's all it is. In the context of an ingame perspective you are told that, yeah, there's a high chance something destructive(as in explosion) could of cropped up from it eventually.

Of course it's not going to explode from a meta standpoint, it's too easy to miss and this is a porn game. But when you write that the shit is going to blow up, expect me to treat it like it's going to blow up in-universe if I've not just popped the game open for a quick schlocking and am only reading the smut.

And by the by, for a lot of people it does need to be said because not everyone is as equally savvy as one-another. Go around telling them your town is built on an metaphysical nuke geyser is more then likely going to have someone raising an eyebrow sooner or later. You have no reason to act snappy and exasperated about this when it's a perfectly reasonable reaction from the perspective of many.

Throwing in my two cents, its entirely fair for people to feel like leaving the portal/source of power to its own devices is a serious threat because in the end it would be for the people in the setting. So for someone roleplaying they are going to take the only option in resolving the situation and build the whore temple even if the content related to it isn't all that great.
Honestly wouldn't be a bad idea for there to be alternate options in that regard.

Ah, but as old as my antler ramblings might get, it's overall harmless goofing off, whereas having a rude attitude for no reason just leads to a negative experience for all parties involved since people are psychologically hardwired to be less inclined to take advice when they feel personally slighted(there's your pragmatic reason to change since you've always got to be the one to pop in and give your little answers). I am aware my joking my prove annoying to some, but it makes me happy, does little damage to others besides draw fourth an eyeroll here and there, and in more heated situations a bit of stupid goofiness can possibly even help to distract and deescalate tensions.

I'll give you advice on how to act because you blatantly need it at times. I popped into the discord the other day for the first time and immediately saw you randomly being a cunt to someone just because they were having trouble with a save that they had used an editor on. Even if you dislike their use, this is a single player game where their usage hurts no-one and acting toxic over that is petty as all hell. I haven't played the part with the spear yet, but with what I've been reading I would love to get it for myself and I'm petty enough that at the very least I would love an option to destroy it so no one else can have it (the fact that I'm 100 corrupted should keep it in character and all).

I would say that the PC should qualify with some of the choices we have, by romancing Ryn in anyway you are pretty much assured elven royalty wether it be by being Ryn's lover or her puppetmaster, beeing a Baron that has lands, power and subjects should definetly help, the noble scion background too, if divinity is an issue then we just have to remember how much the gods are involved with us (specially if you sold your soul to one) and there may be something I'm forgetting that could be added to this, all in all I believe we are more worthy of the spear than Azzy or Evelyn since we definitely hold more power and authority in any kind of way than either of them.
