Valira was confused by Dirk's reaction to her and Akalfa's words, and more than a little annoyed it must be said. They had just had a heartfelt conversation, they had extended an olive branch to him in more ways than one, and yet his response was brusque and dismissive. It hurt Valira, she had tried so hard to form a connection with him, to understand what had happened during the Zira situation and this was his response? Were his tears of gratitude and expression of thanks so easily forgotten? Or were they even genuine to begin with? Was anything he had said genuine? Was this all simply another lie, a way to save face and cover up what had really happened? Was he that good of an actor? Valira didn't know what to think, frankly she felt deflated and wasn't inclined to be charitable. Before she and Akalfa left the room, she turned to Dirk and her voice betrayed all the hurt and anger she felt despite her usual politeness. She was tired, horny and upset, she wasn't going to bottle it up. She wouldn't make a scene, but she would make it clear how she felt.
''Frankly, I find your behaviour most hurtful. We shared quite the intimate moment, one in which we did the first bit of bonding since we've known each other. We then offered you our support and friendship in complete earnestness and you react like this? We are trying to get closer to you, trying to understand what makes you tick, but I find myself even more confused than when I started. I can't even be certain of what I think I know about you! Its maddening and it makes me wonder why I should bother to even try, especially if this is the result. I just hope that my efforts have not been in vain, that the spark of goodness I saw in you is truly there and not the product of my idealistic brain. That's all I had to say, think of it what you will. Despite this unpleasantness, I am always available to talk and am here for you, as I said before. Goodnight everyone, sleep well and I apologise that you had to see this.''
Valira at that point left the room with Akalfa, not even bothering to look behind as she left. She maintained a stony expression but inside she was experiencing a flurry of emotions.
