The once capital of the human empire was once a city of beauty. Now however it is a symbol of despair. Hags hate beauty and as such, when they moved into the city, went around destroying or defacing anything that could be seen as such. Now the best you could call the city is "well kept ruins". Most can still be used while new, more ugly, buildings have been built for those that are important enough to warrant them.

Ever since the coven of grandmothers took over the city, it has become the center of trade where everything and anything can be bought or sold. From bread to slaves it's all here and your group is one of the the city's top services. The mercenary group you belong to is under the command of one of the grandmothers that run the city though none of you have met her for most of the business is handled by a mind flayer named Quoor. He often deals with the clients and decides who will take the jobs.

The building that acts as the base for the group, is a three story building made of black stone. The first floor acts as a bar where the members not on a job can relax. The bar and kitchen are ran by slaves under the watchful eyes of the goblin overseer. The slaves are of different races and genders but are for work only, anyone that tries to use them fr anything else feels the goblin's whip. The second floor is used for housing the members of the guild. Each member can decorate their room as they see fit. The third floor is used as Quoor and the grandmother's office.

On this day a human woman wearing a mask enters the building and has a quiet one sided conversation with Quoor before being brought into a private room set aside for the clients. Little under an hour later she leaves the room. A little bit later Quoor leaves the room holding a piece of paper. After thinking for a bit he goes up to Verona and speaking into her mind.

"Have a job for you and four others." He sends into her mind the images of Rholard, Valk, Deltik, and Karess. He hands her the piece of paper. "The paper has the job and the amount you will all be paid, do not come back until the job is done." He nods to her and goes off on his other tasks.

Sitting in the corner of the bar area, Verona saw Quoor approach. Taking the offered paper, she nods, going back to sipping her wine as she looked around for the others she would be working with. Spotting the Kobolds first, Verona got up and walked towards them, leaving her half finished drink on the table. When she reached the Kobolds table, she tossed the piece of paper onto it, and said "It seems that we will be working on a job together, look it over while I go find the last person we need." Turning towards the room, she again scanned the room, finally seeing the Yuan-Ti, and started making her way over.

Tapping the woman on her shoulder to get her attention, Verona stated "We're working together on a job, follow me to the rest of the crew." not waiting for a response before heading back to the Kobolds.

Valk was sitting in the middle of a table in the bar with his brothers just relaxing for the day, he stops talking with them and point Verona to the others as she approaches and toss a piece of paper on the table, hearing they would be going on a job together Valk smiles to his brothers that were each on his side and grab the paper while Verona go away,he grins taking a look at it then show it to his brothers "it seems we got a job, brothers" he hug them bringing the others close to him before Veron comes back to them with Karess right after

Rholrald watches the woman with a glowering gaze, claws tapping on his own coin purse to ensure it's still there and accounted for. Confusion is clear in his expression when she hardly explains herself, and he snaps his toothy maw at nothing as a gesture of annoyance. He scrambles in his seat to read the proposal, and though Valk's hug catches him off guard, he squirms in his brother's grip to finally seize the paper. Not trusting anything this woman has to say, he turns the paper upside down, sideways, and everything else as he searches for any sort of trap on the harmless page. Disinterested, he passes the paper over to Deltik, silent except for a disdainful snort.

Deltik takes the paper and runs his eyes over it, scanning through the text as he thinks about how to prepare for the new job as they leave the bar. He flips the paper down as his gaze raises to look up at Verona intently. "Quoor tell you anything about the client or place we're going to? Anything specific?" he asks, leaving unsaid the Mind Flayer's capability for telepathic communication.

(I figure a Ilithid would choose to only convey sensitive information via telepathy.)

(it's all on the paper) The paper tells about how the job is to sneak into the lands under orc rule and weakening one of their outposts that guard against the gnolls. Each person will be paid 5 gold plus whatever loot they can find at the camp.

Karess takes the paper from Deltiks hands without any delicacy. She reads it entirely without so much as blinking and after a moment he handed the paper back to the warlock with a quick nod. "That is not a very generous payment but will suffice. Orders are orders." She scanned the rest of the party, trying to access their capability. She had heard good things about the woman but the three kobolds puzzled her. Karess knew they were brothers, wether by brood or by vow she couldn't tell as they all behaved entirely different from each other in a way only people with the same face could. "When do we leave?"

Returning to the Kobolds, Verona replied to the bookish ones questions, "He didn't give any details, he just said the details were on the paper and to not come back until the job was done." Sitting down, she waited for the paper to be passed back to her before taking a look at it. Reading the scarce details on the paper, she finished and stowed it away for later, then turned to Karess, "I wasn't told, but I would imagine the sooner the better, which means that we should all get our gear together and meet back here within the hour."

"Within the hour then." The yuan-ti nodded politely before turning her back and leaving for her room. Much unlike the cold exterior behaving, her room was quite warm and decorated in warm red tones with an excess of satin, silk and pillows. She slowly began to gather her travel gear and the fresh supplies she had bought just the morning before. She donned her scale mail corset and strapped both her shield on her back along with the small crossbow and knelt down before a small altar in prayer. A score of minutes passed before she was done.

The priestess left her room behind with her spear in hand, walking down the stairs towards the place she had met her peers before.

Valk would have to agree with Karess the payment was low considering the mission but since it came from Quoor there was not much to talk about, he did not know how the two women operated but he was already used to work as a team with his brothers so he didn't mind. When they agreed to meet back here in one hour Valk gets off the table" come on brothers, we have a job to do" he goes with his brothers to theirs room, the room was big enough so it could be separated into three equal parts to each.Valk's part was a bit barren only having a small weapon rack, a medium bed, and three beanbag chairs.
He put on his armor, grab his trusty Warhammer, shield and crossbow then go to meet with the others back at the bar.

As Rholrald scrambles obediently to follow the heels of Valk, he stops for a moment, turning to face Verona. Pointing a clawed finger at her face, he growls. "I don't trust you, pretty lady." Is all he says, before rushing to catch up. His section of the room is a neat mess, with shiny garbage piled up in small heaps, all part of his hoard, as well as a small bed minus the blankets and pillows. The reason why becomes quite clear, as there's a finely constructed pillow fort just in front of the door. He dives inside, rummaging around, before leaving the cushy confines of the fort with his leather armor, daggers, shortsword, and the rest of his adventuring gear in toe as he steps back outside. "Last one ready is a rotten hatchling!" He calls back inside, targeted at Deltik, before rushing back to the table, snickering all the while.

Waiting until the others had left the table, Verona's smirk grew when Rholrald said he didn't trust her. Taking her time getting to her room, she entered the rather spartan affair, with only a few, if rather well made, pieces of furniture decorating the room. Heading towards a chest by the foot of the bed, she quickly recovered her daggers, armor, and other gear, taking care to wrap fragile items so that they would not break during her journey. After packing, she began double checking to see if she had forgotten anything. Finding everything to be in order, Verona headed back down to the kitchen, and requested 5 days worth of rations, paying the overseer for them.

Returning to the table, she waited for everyone to finish arriving, seeing most of the others already there.

As the group assembles Quoor comes over and hands to Verona a jar. "If you bring me a snack I'll double the pay" As he thinks snack she gets a picture of a brain in her mind.

Taking the jar, Verona added "Consider it done, and like he said, any choice species or personalities?"

Karess feigned a smirk, not really sure if the situation was supposed to be be humorous or not but deciding for the former. "Is everyone ready? I am keen to to get things done."

Putting the jar away, Verona started to stand, "Yes, lets get going, after all, we don't want to be slow about this, after all, we aren't payed by the day."

The morning walk through the swampy lands that make up the land passes quietly. However as the day fades into the afternoon something come upon them. From the trees steps out a skeletal warrior on top of a skeletal horse. It doesn't look at them.

Gripping his two daggers, Rholrald rushes into the treeline, before skulking as stealthily as he can towards the flank of the skeletal warrior and horse.

[Do we roll for ourselves?]

Karess released the shield from her back, she had already been using her spear as a walking aid so she was ready for battle in the blink of an eye. [Do we roll initiative or is this a parley opportunity?]

As the skeletal duo was called out, Verona looked towards them. With them not appearing to be hostile and her not wanting to waste any time, she called out"We are just passing through and have no quarrels with you, we will just be continuing on our way now." With that, she continued walking, saying to her travelling companions, "We may as well keep moving, we're going to have to get closer anyways if we have to fight them."

Rholrald sees Valk's signal, but keeps creeping up on the skeletal duo anyways, searching for any reachable valuables hanging from a saddle bag or anywhere else.

[Rolled a 12 in stealth, plus 6 with the bonus for 18]

Anything the warrior was wearing has either been taken when he was killed or has rotted off.

The look of that skeletal horse is surely sleek, and the thought of jacking a battle mount is too good to pass up. Holding one dagger between his fingers, Rholrald ignores the peaceful plea of his party and brothers, throwing the dagger up at the skeletal mountee.

[Roll 9 + 6 DEX modifier for finesse weapon = 15]
