None of this was due to some change in some country's laws. Whether your payment processor is in the US, Russia, or the Congo really doesn't matter if the processor itself decides something is icky.

The situation overall is rather disappointing and concerning for the future of content creators and others who make a living from the support of others.

While I myself am not affected by this (at the moment), I just wonder what made everyone suddenly care about this kind of stuff now of all times, when things have already been untouched for so many years.

Well, however they've done it, they're still managing to operate, so they must be doing something right. I'm not sure how they've set it up, but they're running the censorship blockade.
