None of this was due to some change in some country's laws. Whether your payment processor is in the US, Russia, or the Congo really doesn't matter if the processor itself decides something is icky.
The situation overall is rather disappointing and concerning for the future of content creators and others who make a living from the support of others.
While I myself am not affected by this (at the moment), I just wonder what made everyone suddenly care about this kind of stuff now of all times, when things have already been untouched for so many years.

Well, however they've done it, they're still managing to operate, so they must be doing something right. I'm not sure how they've set it up, but they're running the censorship blockade.
Supposedly activist group from Australia (Collective Shout) bothered them about Steam games. In Japan it was already underway (without activist).
Taking in consideration that paying with card is almost basic necessity nowadays -> it is not only content creators that should pay attention to it.
We see private corporation just deciding above the law - what you can or not buy - power reserved for government - and it would be fine (if you believe that private businesses can say no to client) - if not 3 big ones (with in practice monopoly) did it in same moment.
As I've been telling people:

They're a collection of screeching soccer moms who are terrified (and deeply offended) by the thought that some people, somewhere on Earth, might actually been having fun without their express written permission.
Of course, now the whole damn internet is turning on them and they're crying about how they're being "oppressed" by all the evil gamers.
While I certainly applaud that philosophy, the fact remains that my Visa card is linked into my SubscribeStar account, with which I'm paying for multiple adult content creators. Somehow, they're managing to get around Visa and Mastercard restrictions when by all accounts they should be getting hit with them.
