Me think if Kineticist would be nicer to play as an actual caster class if Force dart, the special attack that should be this class standard damaging option, are made to be a lot more customizable.
I do realize the name of the class is Kineticist but the fact that other class can easily change weapon to have damage element fitted for each fight, meanwhile, Force dart and all other special attack of Kineticist have their damage type locked down. It does feel relatively fine earlier in the game, however, in the later part of the game where enemy start to have very specific damage type resist & weakness, casting attack that can only deal one type damage feel very weak compare to just grab a weapon (especially crafted hardlight weapon) with advantageous damage type and smash them (With Haste if possible).
It would be cool if we could, say, change how our force dart function. Taking a page of out D&D Eldritch blast maybe.
A weapon or system that allow you to change its damage type, allow it to inflict some debuff, Kinetic res peneration, exchange the amount for accuracy, damage, or crit chance, etc.
Also, while I can see that some ability are design to combo ( Entropic Leech/Whip freeze -> Acid Cloud/Level 12 ability, Gravity Flux -> Geothermal Spike, etc) and it does feel great when it work, it also feel really when it seem you cannot inflict the status effect that prime the combo. And I feel like for a class that suppose to focus on casting ability, it's spell combo should be longer than just 2 special attack one after another.
At least this is my impression of the current state of the class after clearing Phaedra's train mission with a newly create char as of the time of writing.
