From what I've seen of other people plaything them, I found them a little too on-rails for my liking. Though perhaps that is why it's called a "novel" and not a "game". Although, I did find Katawa Shoujo heart-warming at times. (Certainly alot more than the waifu-simulators you find everywhere on Steam)

I really should try MGQ...

Give Long Live the Queen a Try then. Its a mix of VN with SIM in it, it not straight forward at all and VERY HARD.

Other wise there is Magical Dairy, which is a pretty cool VN on steam, where you get puzzles you gotta solve every so often.
There is Cupid that's free on steam. But that ones really WTF trying to be edge master. (Seriously the Prolouge has the main character STAB OUT THEIR EYE!)
Another free one is Seduce me the Otome.

That shit is insane. CthulhuMythosLightxMechaxPron= pure Wat.

I fondly remember Critical Point, Dividead and Discipline. Saya no Uta made my boner sad and Sengoku Rance was insanely good gameplay-wise.

By far, my favorite was Saya no Uta. Specially the second ending (the bloodiest of all)... so Lovecraftian. And the intro song, Schizophrenia, got stuck on mi head for weeks. I loved it.

One of the music tracks on the game got stuck in my head as well... it was that really sad mournful one... freaking song got to you.

I rather liked the Violated Hero series, but I've only played the first 3 since they were the only ones I could find translations for.

Sadly I've never played any non-pornographic visual novels, since I have a hard time finding good ones with translations.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, MGQ Is a good place to start with those.

Unless you are talking about an entire different series, I am fairly certain that I said "Non-Pornographic" when I was referring to visual novels.

It is even in the bit of what I wrote that you have quoted?

That would be a high possibility, but being the pessimist I am.

I will leave my correction as is, thinking that it was not being misread.

Oh, uh....

Don't worry I didn't make that mistake.

EDIT: In order to correct myself as if this mistake never happened, Clannad is a good VN that has non pornographic material and is fully translated on Steam, It's pretty good.

If you want a non-pornographic VN I highly recommend Ever17 if you want story, Little Busters! if you want a highschool setting with casual hijinks and an overarching plot leading to resolution, Clannad if you want to simulate the effect of being punched in the stomach multiple times, Rewrite if you want a battle VN with a great story (actually really good; I highly recommend this one), or Narcissu if you want about 2 hours of sadness in your life leading you to sit in the shower under the water and feel grateful for the life you have. All of these are translated, but you'd have to find them yourself.

I'll just say that there is a reason that the JP ranking held all three versions of Ever17 in the top 10 VN list for a long ass time. AFAIK, it's still the top rated one, too.

I rather liked the Clannad anime, although the ending not so much.

I might give it a try eventually when I have the time.

Trust me, a lot of people (including me) actually prefer to VN of Clannad to the anime by a long shot. Mostly because your not limited to Nagisa.

also anime's tend to fuck over plot from the game even if they don't include the H-content if it's an H-game that gets made into anime, Fate series, Tsukihime (go figure those two are done by the same company). Manga's that were made into anime are a very good example of plot getting fucked over sometimes.

My favorite VN's will have to be:

Steins;Gate

Clannad

and Tomoyo After, as for this one if you have played Clannad and beaten it I suggest getting Tomoyo After, then play back through the Tomoyo Path and then jump to Tomoyo After upon completion. I hate to admit it, but this game made me cry for the first time since I was 7!

Here is a little present for those that have beaten Clannad, remember this scene?

Katawa Shoujo (obviously)
Monster Girl Quest ( though I won't touch the RPG version of it)

It's a stretch, but Persona 3 Portable. Yes it's a JRPG too, but the lion's share of that game is the visual novel/life-sim aspect first. And it does it gooooooooooood. Not perfect, Persona 3 had issues and P3P didn't fix all of them (Fixed a lot more than FES ever fucking did though...) but it's the definitive version of one of my favourite stories in gaming. Highly recommend it if you have the means.

Well while trying to keep out Life is Strange as also not saying ANY TellTale games.
It seems i end up going more toward Point-Click Adventure side than V.Novel per se, like Book of Unwritten Tales, DreamFall Chapters or Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.

But I pick a close tie between Bird Story and Always Sometimes Monsters, those were great.

That "Major/Minor" game was a great disappointment
