Stuck in a quest

Hello,

I already sense what the answer will be but I thought I had to give it a try : I just started the Anno quest, with the 3 security droids. There was no hint about the level of the quest, but the fight is definitely too difficult for me. Got rekt like 15 times in a row.

And of course, I did not keep a save before entering the ship, currently my only save is inside the ship and I can only go north, to the fight. I know it's a terrible idea in games in general, but here the game seemed relatively "open world" til now and I did not think I could get stuck in a place.

Is there really no way to back out of the quest ? Is my only option to start a new game ?

Thank you.

It would help if you could tell us what your stats are. Which class you are. And what equipment you're using.

But if you find it impossible it's not too far into the game, so it shouldn't take too long to get back to if you start a new game.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I'm a tech specialist level 3, but my skills barely help me last one turn longer (I did manage to stun the 3 one after the other but they wake up fairly quick). I use the melee weapon I picked up in the pirate ship, when you get the distress call. Not doing enough damage at all. Usually I get my way out of fights by teasing haha.

I do usually keep separate save files, the game was quite permissive until now so I didn't see the point. Guess I learned my lesson. Thank you

Oh God, yeah, Level 3 is low for that quest. Meant for Level 4-5.

Also using a melee weapon as a Tech is a really bad idea, especially if it's not an energy weapon.

Dane's shock blade is probably the best option for a melee techie at that stage, but you should upgrade to the Vamp Blade or Lava Saber ASAP, (preferrably both if you can afford it.) assuming you're running the same build on your new game.

Vamp Blade is not better than Lava Saber imho so choose Lava Saber when you get to that certain point in the game.

I'm inclined to disagree, both weapons are equally good situationally. Melee is already not ideal for the Tech so if thats the playstyle he's going for his equipment loadout needs to be as flexible as possible, and he should grind his teases too for energy resistant foes. (That's right I'm looking at you Ganrael.)

Well yeah if your going for a certain build then of course you can go for it. However pure physical damage is what the Lava Saber is for.

They have same damage, only difference is that Lava Saber deals half burning, and Vamp Blade deals half electric. Crit/evasion/accuracy does little difference.

You could always use a save editor to give yourself some EMP grenades or something.

Scoot over to -> http://apps.coursevector.com/minerva/#

Click 'open', navigate to the directory your saves are in. If you don't know where they are, search your computer for TiTS and you should find your save files, TiTS_1.sol, TiTS_2.sol, corresponding to your save slots. (Don't rename the files to try and make them different slots, it fucks things up. Make a backup copy of the file(s) instead.) Note the directory it found your save files in, punch that into Minerva's open file UI, and open your save in Minerva.

It'll bring up a list on the left; this is a tree much like the file tree that organizes the files on your hard drive, only here the "files" are variables and the "folders" contain more variables. You're going to want to find the "characters" folder and expand it using the little white triangle to its left. Then find and expand "PC" (the player character), and finally find and expand "inventory"

What you should see under "inventory" is a list of entries marked 0, 1, 2, etc up to a maximum of 9. If your inventory is full, you'll need to change something into EMP grenades. If you have less than 10 items in your inventory, you can make a new item by right clicking one of the things, and in the dropdown list, mouseover edit->copy. Then right click on inventory and mouseover edit->paste.

It'll create an exact copy of the thing you copied, so you'll need to edit it. Start by renaming the thing you just pasted so that it takes up the next number; For example, if my list went from 0-4 and I duplicated object 3, I'd need to right click on the duplicate object 3 and rename it 5. Now, expand the item you want to edit, and you'll find that it has four values.

Now the last and probably most difficult part that I had to figure out on my own: actually turning the thing into the other thing that you want. To find the right values to plug in, you can look up items over at https://github.com/OXOIndustries/Trials-in-Tainted-Space/blob/master/classes/Items/ In this case, the relevant info is in items/miscellaneous/empgrenade.as.

'Quantity' is the number of items in the stack; looking at empgrenade.as we see that this.stacksize = 10, so you can set quantity to be up to 10. Shortname should be changed to "EMP Gren." (without quotes) and Classinstance should be changed to "classes.Items.Miscellaneous::EMPGrenade" (without quotes).

That's it. Now, just save your file and hopefully your emp grenades should let you get through the encounter. Otherwise you'll need to cheat even more heavily by editing your stats or something.

Thank you guys, I'm not against ranged weapons, just didn't pay too much attention to muy build and probably underestemated this aspect of the game.

Thanks a lot for the detailed post Trogdor, I'll try your method to see if I can get past this fight.

Yeah, that might be a good idea, now that I think about it. Even if you get through the fight against the robots, I'm not sure EMP grenades will stun Gray Prime the way they stun robots and turrets. You might still be screwed :p

They can't. First, stun is only applied to robot/automaton race, second, Prime is stun immune. Actually, Prime is extremely difficult to beat by damage, lust is much more effective.

THAT is the so-obvious-no-one-thought-about-it idea that I was looking for.

Finally got past the fight (after a few tries, even in easy mode). And easily defeated the boss by teasing her. Thanks guys !
