((Unfortunately advantage on attack, but I see the general idea you are going for with the sucker punch and thus I'm going to give you that free attack and a +2 on your initiative roll due to the unique way you described Gwen's method of attack and the fact that Kavra was distracted by the sea-elf's curvaceous form.

I fear this might lead to unintended abuse in the future since what "is" and "isn't" considered a sucker punch will be mechanically difficult to determine. Thus, in the future, I'm going to rule based on the following criteria for enemies:

1) Aware of players/NPC's general positions

2.) Are in combat/Are expecting combat/reasonably suspect that harm might come to them.

Then initiative will be rolled normally with appropriate DEX modifiers, the results of the rolls reflecting how quick the aggressor attacks vs how fast the recipient is to respond.))

"Wh--" Kavra's eyes widen as she notices the silver of the dagger about to be thrown and she tries duck out of the way. BThe first knife manages to make its mark, nicking her right in the arm, but she barely manages to duck the second! [Kavra takes 6 piercing damage! Kavra rolls 8 initiative! (1d20+2 = 8)]

[Roll Initiative with a +2 bonus on top of your DEX mod.]

Kriv & Rona

As Kriv goes over to free the dryad from her restraints, the human eyes the dark red ram tattoo emblazoned upon his chest and there's a small look of shame upon her face, "M-My apologies. I didn't mean to offend a man of the Gauntlet. It's a blessing -- that even out here Hades watches over us with his warriors." She turns to address the Rodezan. "I have family in Shardsbury, though as things stand now, I'm afraid I might not make the journey back."

The chains are easily torn from the wall thanks to Kriv's immense brute strength, causing Lisadra to fall to her feet and rub her aching wrists. She looks up at him with a smile, a glint of hope showing in those emerald eyes of hers once more, "Thank you all. Now it's our turn to hold to our promise." She wobbles slightly, a trace of cum leaking down her thigh. Xali hops off of Kriv then goes to help keep her up right.

As the goblin places a hand on the dryad's leg, the dragonborn can hear prayers coming from her in her native tongue, one of the charms hanging around her neck glowing with orange energy that is released through her hand, causing Lisadra to stand more upright.

One of the sprites flies out of the burrow entrance then returns shortly afterward to Kriv and Rona with a grave look on his face. "We need to act soon. The savages are already closing in on your friends out there! The wagons are in the way -- but I saw a woman fighting to fend one of them off!"

"And she won't fight alone. Little do they know, we'll be the ones closing in on them." Shimmering green energy begins manifest in her hands as she speaks. "O' Faris, grant us shadow. May our steps be swift and silent like the nargacuga as we carry out the judgement of the wood." The green energy expands 30ft around her, immersing Kriv, Rona, Xali and the sprites in a veil of shadows.

Xali looks up at Kriv while reaching for the handaxe on his belt, a look of determination clear on her face. "Whatever fight you have with them or your brother -- it's my fight, too."

[Lisadra casts "Pass Without Trace". So long as she maintains concentration, you have a +10 bonus to Dexterity (Stealth) checks for up to 1 hour and can't be tracked except by magical means. You also leave behind no tracks or traces of your passage.]

[7 + 3 + 2 = 12 initiative.]

Grinning, the elf would step back, flinging another knife at the warrior before drawing the shortsword she was handed, and holding the final dagger in her off hand.

“What’s the matter? Not used to being assaulted by surprise? I’ll have you know, I treat others with as much honour as they deserve, you feral bitch.”

Damage: 2 + 3 = 5]

Rona listened carefully as the woman spoke to her. Giving a wistful sigh she weighs her options. "If you accompany our wagons, I can promise you that I..." And glancing to Kriv and Xali momentarily. "And my well-suited companions will do our best to give you safe passage to the Baron's castle. From there I will reach out to the Rodezan embassies near Shardsbury to try and secure you an escort to the area." With that Rona stepped away and gave a modest smile. "If I can help it, you will see your family again." She says, resolute and determined in her speech patterns.

As she hears of the savages attacking her travelling companions her mind jumps to thoughts of the innkeeper she felt a unfamiliar, almost inexplicable affection for. She wouldn't allow them to harm her, or the citizens aboard the wagons. Readying her scythe she'd smile towards the creatures as they cast their spell before beginning to head out of the strangely scented tree hollow. "We will need to move quickly if we aim to minimize losses. Is everyone ready?"

(My mistake on that last post -- the first hit lands, the second misses (I forgot about her +2 to DEX). Excellent initiative roll! Feel free to take your turn!)

Despite the burning pain that's racing through her leg, there's only a smile on Kavra's face as she struggles to settle into a defensive position. "You beautiful conniving bitch --" She suddenly lets out a fit of laughter, a mix of lust evident within those dialating red eyes of hers. As the gnoll heaves in and out, Gwen can see light traces of an odd pink filling the veins on her arms beneath her fur. Whatever it is, it's giving off an unsavory aura. "Now this is what I've been waiting for!" [From managing to break through her defenses with that knife throw, Gwen has a better idea of where to place her next attacks. Kavra's AC is 12!]

Gwen hears the gnoll behind Kavra shouting in their native tongue. She can't tell what he's saying, but by the looks of the irritated expression on his face and the gestures of his arms looking like swords, it's safe to assume he is telling her to focus. The undead gnolls nearby simply look on with that same hollowed stare in their eye, watching their leader's every move.

"That's it, m'Lady! Keep at her! She's off-center!" Pascal yells out behind her.

It isn't just the Knight Lieutenant, either. Gwen can hear the other Grey Rose Knights cheering her on, hoping to instill newfound vigor within her.

"That one's floundering about like a damned Sauhagin out of water! Kick her ass!"

"Show us what a sea-elf can do!"

"You see there? That's what won them the Tide Wars!"

As the battle rages on, the lead wagon driver tries to snap the reigns and scurry the horse onward, but just as they do an arrow comes flying in from further up the road, landing just in front of the two horses' hooves and causing them to rear up in horror.

Kriv & Rona

The human gasps then gives a bow to Rona, "You would really...? Thank you -- thank you so much, madame. Bless you -- and may Hades protect your warrens in these harrowing times as well. It seems like the these here hinterlands have gotten the worst of it. Heavens knows what's going on near the Sunless Realms. Or Mavris up north."

When Kriv hears the mention of Mavris, memories of his tribe might flow into his mind. His mother, his mentors -- all of the people he had left behind before striking out on his own and pursuing this new life wrought with pompous nobles and the constant noise of congested cities.

Lisadra nods, "Ready. I only pray that we won't be too late."

[The burrow is approximately 60 ft from the main road and I'm estimating that it will take 2 rounds of combat (between Kavra and Gwen) for you to make it back to the wagons. If you decide to instead move quickly and forgo stealth, it only takes 1 round of combat between Gwen and Kavra) While doing so, foliage and the trees make for great cover and concealment, and with the wagons in the way, the gnolls won't be able to see your approach as well.]

Only smiling as the gnoll seems to power up, the sea elf would bare her teeth, eager to see how well the gnoll’s machismo holds up. Flicking the sword to lay flat against her arm, she’d grip at the air and make a twisting motion, calling up something she’s been practicing recently, after a rather interesting night.

[I place the Hexblade curse on her, and cast mage hand to grab the dagger in her leg and twist it.]

[Oof. Why does all the fun stuff happen when I'm asleep!? Also, Vale. Monster Hunter much? Hey, if you're on World on PS4, I'll drop you my ID.]

"No offense taken." He mutters back to the human, before nodding at the dryad. "Fight only if you feel able to. I believe I'm capable of taking down most of them." He murmurs, before looking down at Xali touching his handaxe. He smirks slightly, then nods. "I can respect that, little one." He murmurs, patting her head, before looking at the human who spoke of his hometown.
"Mavris? What do you know about what's going on in Mavris?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.

[Monster Hunter? I'm afraid I've never heard of it, Arch. Sounds like a very "New World" to me. ;) (Kidding Kidding. Good to see a fellow Hunter! Hit me up with the ID and I'll message you. I'd be honored to hunt with you sometime!)]

[Chaotic, were you intending to use the mage hand cantrip to deal damage, or was it intended to be more along the lines of a taunt? Unfortunately, mage hand can't be used make an attack.]

[An amendment to my previous post. Recounting the map squares, it's actually 60 ft and thus would take you only 2 rounds with stealth. Ifeither of you choose to sprint towards main road (thereby forgoing stealth and possibly making noise), you'll all be able to make it to the battle by the end of this round. Lisadra may have provided you with that stealth buff, but when and where either of you wish to take advantage of it is completely up to you.

Either way, I wish to ask the both of you to roll your initiatives ahead of time so we'll have them if/when combat starts.]

Kavra lets out a loud roar of rage, the glow in her veins beginning to flare. She hurls her body forward, baring her fangs as she unleashes two furious slashes [1d20 (12) + 5 = 17, 1d20 (14) + 5 = 19], one blow slashing into her right arm (1d6 (4) + 2 = 6 slashing damage!) while the other is a wide horizontal slash that bites right into her chest armor! (1d6 (5) + 2 = 7 slashing damage!)

[Take 13 slashing damage if both attacks land.]

"I was there establishing trade with any Mavrinian tribes who might need minerals. For weapons, armor -- anything they might need in their conflict against the Zharnosian Minotaurs. I was about to head through Wyrmjaw pass when I saw this red pillar funneling towards the sky back north. At first I didn't think anything of it. 'Figured it was one of those special rituals that your folk might be holdin', axeman. But that's when I saw it here, too." She gestures out towards the opening, "That column of red light out in the forest? Near the Marches? You both know the one. And that's when all this started: Red lines on the ground, savages and hooded folk roaming about n' preying on anyone they can find, waves of light across the sky."

She flinches when she hears Kavra's roar, "I don't know what in Hade's is going on, but I just get this feeling that we aren't the only ones having a rough time of it here in King's Country."

(Well technically it wasn’t an attack, just manipulating an object, but alright, that is fair.)

Yelping and staggering back, the elf would snarl at the gnoll, before jumping back, running between the carts and taunting the gnoll to follow. Darting around to stand beside a horse, she’d wait for her combatant to try and follow.

(I use the disengage action to avoid attacks of opportunity, and would like to prepare a reaction to startle the horse once the gnoll gets closer.)

[Why the hell would autocorrect say farting?]

He growls softly, looking in the direction of the roar, then at her. He growls louder, before pointing at the human. "A story for another time. We gotta move!" He growls, picking up Xali and tossing her onto his shoulders as he runs out of the cave, making a beeline for the source of the howls.

[No idea, man. Autocorrect can be weird sometimes. XD]

Rona watched as Kriv barreled out of the cave, giving one of her are, reserved laughs. She admired the bravery and decisive nature of the large dragonborn, though she did not join him in his charge. Readying her thrown weapons she began to carefully sneak her way through the brush.

Were she to remain undetected she would attempt to slip covertly between the wagons, making a wide arc to circle behind the gnolls. Once across the wagon line she'd wave off any of those still with her, not wanting to endanger the beings she met in the tree any longer.

[Rona Stealth Roll: 6 + 4 +10= dirty 20.]
[Rona Initiative 14. Just to be clear she is sneaking, and it may take longer as she is trying to sneak to the side of the pack of gnolls.]

(You have a good point. It was manipulating an object. I think I might've been a bit too inflexible with how that could've been utilized. My apologies.

Besides, combat-wise it doesn't seem fair that you committed an action to doing that with no result only to have Kavra multi-attack you afterward. And I very much admire that creativity you put into it and would not want to see that put to waste. Therefore I have a proposal: The next time that maneuver is attempted, Kavra makes a 10 DC CON save to try and avoid the sudden shock of pain distracting her. If she fails the save, she disadvantage on one of her attack rolls. If it succeeds, she manages to fight through the pain and pull the dagger out.)

As Gwen-Dara retreats behind the wagons, Pascal moves out of the way for her. As she passes, she sees the knight-lieutenant still gripping his sword with an urge to assist, but he nods for her to keep fighting, respecting the sea-elf's wishes.

"Running and hiding already?!" Kavra pursues, but the moment she gets between the wagons, Gwen-Dara sends the draft horses into a wild frenzy!

One of the draft horse's hooves goes right for Kavra and she attempts to dodge out of the way, [Kavra makes a Dexterity Saving throw (DC 16) in an attempt to dodge out of the way of the hooves! [1d20(8) + 4 = 12] She fails.] but the hooves slam right into the side of her face [STR save vs DC 14, 1d20(8)+1 = 9], the sudden force of the blow knocking her into the back of the wagon in front then sending her to the ground! [Kavra has been knocked prone, [2d4 (3,1) + 4 = 8] taking 8 bludgeoning damage!]

Kriv & Rona

Xali hold's onto Kriv's horn with one hand while her handaxe remains in the other. She manages to duck an occasional low-hanging branch or two. As the barbarian surges forth through the woods. He hears the flapping of wings on either side of him, and if he looks, he see two sprites on either side. Just moments later the two sprites turn invisible.

Rona easily blends into the foliage of the forest and Lisadra creeps alongside her while the human remains further back, her shaky hands being a good sign that she isn't as suited to combat.

[Alright Kriv, you're getting added into the initiative roll on this next round. Roll initiative. As we discussed a while back, if you roll higher than Kavra, you and Gwen are free to go in whatever order you so choose.]

He glances at the sprites going invisible. Oh good. They had stealth units with poison arrows! Now that would be pretty helpful!

[No need to feel bad in any way, it was a bit confusing. Thank you for the info though!]

Chuckling, the elf would step closer bring the shortsword down on the gnoll before stepping back and snagging a lantern of the cart, tossing it down on her and moving around the side of the cart.

[Rolling with advantage, because she’s prone. Should I roll for the lantern?]

[That's correct, Arch. For Kriv initiative would be 1d20 + 1.

For the lantern, what are Gwen's intentions with it? If it's to roll an attack, throwing it down on Kavra would count as an improvised thrown weapon attack and would require Gwen to make another full action (which she already used with her shortsword).

I know that sounds hypocritical after Kavra just did a multiattack, but that's only because NPCs/Monsters aren't bound by the same rules that PC's are.]

[Reaction: Attack of Opportunity] Just as Gwen turns and tries to move around the cart out of Kavra's reach, she takes a swing at her leg, [(Rolled with Disadvantage due to Being Prone) 2d20 (9, 11 ) + 5 = 14][1d6 (4) + 2 = 6 slashing (non-lethal) damage] , the strike doesn't cut deep into the noblewoman's boot, but it is enough to send the half sea-elf staggering against the side of the wagon.

As she suffers the blow, the last thing she hears is Pascal calling out for her.

[That strike counts as non-lethal and Gwen is incapacitated (damage against Gwen these past few rounds totals up to 19). But I assure you -- she isn't out of the fight if Kriv and Rona continue.]

Kriv

Kriv emerges from the tree-line only to witness Gwen faltering from Kavra's blow. His sprinting rustles the surrounding foliage and produces a crunch sound on some dead leaves beneath him that turns Kavra's attention towards him.

The warrioress is panting heavily while looking, just barely managing to fend the startled horses off while slowly rising to her feet. She leans against the wagon to her left for support, groaning in pain from the bruise on the side of her face along with the multiple wounds and cuts that he can safely assume is Gwen-Dara's handiwork. Still, even in the midst of all this, Kriv can see womanly nectar dripping down her thighs as she glances at Gwen-Dara's vulnerable form. "Oh, good." She winces in pain, letting out a small chuckle. "Princess and I get a bigger audience." [Kavra ends her turn.]

Without hesitation, Xali hops off of Kriv and goes to Gwen. She places a hand on the elf's head, one of the charms on her neck glowing as she says a goblinic prayer. Soothing energy flows into the noblewoman and awakens her from her unconscious state. [Xali heals Gwen for +10 hit points! Gwen is no longer incapacitated!]

[Arch, since Kriv and Rona are completely unaware of their previous agreement, it's up to you how Kriv would react to that.]

Rona

As the rodezan creeps forward into her new position with nary a sound thanks to Lisadra's magic, the knight is so busy trying to get a better view of the fight that he doesn't even notice her. Thanks to her small stature, the knight and his horse provide adequate cover for her to conceal herself behind as the gnolls focus on Gwen-Dara and Kavra's current conflict. Though as they hear the sounds of Kriv barreling out of the woods, they keep their weapons at the ready as they move further to the left to get a better look at their leader's current status. Currently it seem as though the wagons are still obscuring Kriv from their view.

[So here's how the initiative breaks down so far (Wan you, Lisadra, and your two accompanying sprites will be slotted into this initiative after all turns are taken for this round):

Kriv: 18

Lisadra: 16

Gwen: 12

Xali: 9

Kavra: 8

(Remember, with our current house rule it doesn't matter if another player/ friendly NPC rolled a higher initiative than you. You all are free to post/take your turns in whatever order you wish so long as an enemy hasn't rolled higher than you.)

Rona slipped pas tthe knight after taking a moment o observe her surroundings and quickly ran through the foliage towards the ridge. Once there she began to climb atop and over the rocky ridge, doing her best to remain quiet about it. Her scythe gripped between her teeth. Once atop she'd crouch low amongst the rocks atop the ridge.

The blade of Kriv's axe bites right into Kavra's side with such sheer force that she gets smacked into the rear of the first wagon, the villagers inside looking on with horror-filled eyes as rivulets of blood spill onto the canvas as well as the pair of startled horses. The last flicker of light fades from the gnoll leader, her final sounds only being idle gasps for air as the barbarian's axe bites right through bone and marrow, digging deep into her lung.

The gnoll and his compatriots let out cries of rage as their leader is slain right before them, the roars of the witherlings coming out as a hollow echo as they prepare to lunge straight into the fray!

Pascal dismounts from his horse and dashes over to Kavra's body and dropping to his knees right next to Gwen. He grabs her body and carefully turns her over, still searching for any signs of life in her eyes, worry clearly evident in his own. "Madame! -- Madame, are you are you alright?"

Gwen-Dara and Kriv can both hear a knight riding over to the lead wagon driver, shouting, "What's the damned hold-up?! We need to get this convoy movin'!"

The driver cocks his head down to the arrow embedded into the ground "T-They've got archers blockadin' us up ahead!"

"Yeah?" He points to the gnoll witherlings, "And we've got skeletons up the ass! Quit your whinin' and bowl right the hell through them!"

[Chaotic, Arch, the near Kriv, Gwen, and Xali on the map are large enough to provide half-cover (+2 to AC and Dexterity saves) if you keep them between yourselves and the ranged attacks of the hidden archers.

Either of you are free to make a perception check as an action to look up ahead for them. With the red pulsations bringing occasional cascading light upon the landscape, this allows you to make regular perception checks for this round even though it's night time. The light will fade after this round, but then a new red wave of light will arrive in another 2 rounds.]

Lisadra moves 30 ft into position and begins to chant, "Roots that dwell beneath -- arise and shackle the wicked!" [Lisadra casts Entangle!] Multiple weeds and vines suddenly spring up from a 20ft square, wrapping around the undead gnolls and attempting to root them to the ground!

[For 1 minute, every square that is completely covered by that green square I'm showing on the map is treated as difficult terrain (you move through it at half speed). The 2 undead gnolls must succeed on a STR save or be restrained by the rising plants since they're starting their turns there.)]

[9, 13] Both of the undead gnolls attempt to break out, but the overwhelming strength of the vines keeps them rooted! The third skeleton looks on with disbelief as his companions are ensnared!

The three remaining knights Grey Rose Knights immediately close in upon the enemy, two maneuver around to the slope where the ridge ends and attack the two undead there. One makes a beeline straight for the living gnoll warrior at the foot of the ridge, all of them lashing out with their longswords! The gnoll warrior manages to block the attack with his spear while the others manage to make their mark on their undead targets!

The two accompanying sprites with Rona and Lisadra both disperse to the left and right, concentrating their fire on the gnoll warrior from two different directions! Their tiny arrows dart across the wind, both hitting right between the sections in the warrior's armor!

Coughing as she steadied herself, the sea-elf would stand close the the carriage, keeping it between herself and the arrows just for now. Moving to Kavra’s corpse, she’d pull the several daggers from it, cleaning and stashing them as quick as she could.

Rona sighed softly as things quickly devolved into open conflict. Rushing through the foliage to the gnoll closest to her she attempted to remain quiet until she reached him. Letting out a small cry she kicks him as hard as she can in the ribs before cracking a fist against the back of the gnoll's head.

[Rona moves 15 feet forwards (up) towards the gnoll, and makes two attacks. (One as a B.A.)

As Rona's furious strikes slam into the undead gnoll's head and ribs, there's an audible crack in the skeleton's bones as its head is forced forward. There's a one second pause and suddenly the gnoll whips around with a sudden blow from its club that slams into Rona's side! [1d20 (14) + 4 = 18, 1d4 (4) + 2 Total: 6 He tries to sneak in an overhead slam, but Rona's rigorous training allows her to anticipate the coming blow!

As Kriv closes in on one of the undead gnolls, he notices the one on the left breaking out of its roots! The one before him struggles, but it's only in vain as the plants keep him rooted and helpless before the barbarian. Restrained though he might be, the undead gathers enough strength to lash out at Kriv with its club, both of its attacks falling short of the barbarian! [1d20 (13, 2) + 4 = 6 (Disadvantage), 1d20 (13, 2) + 4 = 6 (Disadvantage)]

As Kriv seeks an opening, both himself and Rona can hear a loud cry from the knight fighting the gnoll warrior, as the savage runs his spear right through the gap in the soldier's leather armor. By the looks of the blood leaking from his lips and the shaky hands gripping his sword and shield, its clear that he's clinging to what little bits of life he has left.

As Gwen rises up and reclaims her daggers, she hears an arrow suddenly collide with the stone she's standing near while another arrow flies right past the caravan driver's head.

Gwen's darkvision allows her to trace the shot back to 2 gnoll archers who have come out of hiding about 40 ft up the road (off-map), and she sees two re-positioning near a pair of trees. They haven't set up any roadblocks, the only true threat being from their arrows as they open fire on the wagons.

Rona staggers for a moment as the club impacts with her. For a moment she sees stars before clenching her small fists and lunging at the undead Gnoll. She flattens her hand and collides it as hard as she can with the gnoll's chest. [9+6=15 to hit.: If succesfful. 4+3=7 Damage.]

Still a bit dazed from the strike she attempts to strike the gnoll once again with her other hand, but misses by a noticeable margin, likely punching under his arm. [2+6=8 to hit. Likely a failure.] As she hears the cry of the knight she feels anger filling her, briefly closing her eyes and trying to ignore the noise. She couldn't help anyone if she let this gnoll kill her.

He looks at the fallen knight, then the undead gnoll. He had a choice. Either go take out the gnoll warrior right now before he got too far, or kill off the undead gnolls here as fast as he could.
It takes him just a few seconds to make up his mind. With a growl, he swings his axe at the undead in front of him. [6. If that somehow lands, it does 12+4+2=18 damage.]

(Make another attack roll for me, if you haven't please. That undead gnoll you're currently attacking is still restrained by Lisadra's plants, thus giving Kriv advantage!)

Cursing, she’d look at where the gnolls were for a moment. Cracking her neck, she’d use her mask of many faces to take the appearance of the slain Kavra, running out to where the two were and snarling at them, pointing the looted shortsword at the two.

“You two! Idiots! Get over here now!”

(Edit: 11 + 6 = 17 deception.
8 + 6 = 14 deception
17 > 15.)

Kriv's powerful blow goes clean through the undead gnoll, a mass of shattered bones flying off into the grasslands before it can even let out its final hollowed cry. As his swing carries through, he feels a brief pulsation right over his ram tattoo [18 damage!]. As if Hades himself is goading the dragonborn's strike's onward, urging him to slay these risen abominations and return them to their rightful place at the end of the River Styx.

Rona's mighty punch ruptures the gnoll's ribcage with the efficiency of a scholar's pen stroke and the might of a charging rothe. [7 damage!]The bones crumble around the impact of her sudden blow as the undead is sent staggering onto its back, the ribcage displacing from the lower half of its body as it lies there, motionless.

As Gwen moves out to face the two gnolls, her voice reaches out to them over the clanging of swords against clubs and the general chaos of battle.

[You never cease to amaze with that creativity! Okay, roll me a Deception Check with advantage since you're the spitting image of Kavra. This roll will be contested by their Insight checks. If you beat their insight, anyone who isn't Gwen gets advantage on their attack rolls before the gnolls take their turns. If either of them roll higher? Something unfortunate happens.

I'll post NPC actions after Chaotic makes the Deception Check since it has a big influence on how the remaining gnolls take their turns. Afterwards, it's back to the players once more.]
