Breeders of the Nephelym is an immersive, beautifully erotic 3D adventure game centered around catching and breeding the Nephelym, an enigmatic race of monster-human hybrids.

This game is entirely built by myself: "DerelictWulf". It is currently in very early alpha, and there is a lot of work to do, but I am determined to see it through. However, this can only be done with your support:

https://www.patreon.com/BreedersOfTheNephelym

Check out some video footage of the gameplay (remember, this is a very early alpha prototype):

Female and male breeders! Eventually, you will be able to control the skin color, body shape, etc.

Adorable horny NPCs.

Beautiful vast world. Hand-crafted, but still needs work. I want every corner filled with sex at some point.

Real fur that you feel like you can pet.

Fill the desires of elite Nephelym, only the Kraken has an animation for now. However, filling the world with lots of these is a priority. For this aspect of the game, I was greatly inspired by Monster Girl Quest.

The game still needs a lot of work, but I need to get some support or I wont be able to continue. If you believe in this project, please consider becoming a patron!

Thank you, and thanks Fenoxo for having a section for me to post this in!

That M/M part makes me hopeful for traps. But the monsters so far are great fuck-potential. Definitely keeping my eye on this.

Damn, looks like Monster Island mixed with Pillars of Perversion. I'm in. (Hopefully this will actually have updates, unlike M.I.)

I have two questions. 1. Will there be M/M content? 2. Will customizing genitalia be a thing? for example breast size or penis size?

Looking at the screenshots, it looks as if the first is the case.
I thought it was obvious too. I'm definitely hopeful it delivers.

Wow thanks for the responses everyone, and thanks to those pledged on Patreon! This is way more than what I was expecting overnight. To put to rest any fears, yes I am dedicated to updating this game for years to come so long as it starts earning enough money.

Will there be M/M content?
Yes, and sex animations are prioritized by polls taken periodically in my Discord channel. When it comes to sex animations, I might also through a few in that I feel like making at the moment (those will typically be F/M, but you never know!).
By the way those options in the screen shot are not yet functional, but they will be when I have more animations.

Will customizing genitalia be a thing?
Oh definitely, this was planned from the beginning. The beautiful thing about 3D is how you can alter it in realtime. My current system is morph driven already, and I plan on allowing penis and breast morphs for the breeder. The only limits I will place on those is up until they break animations (i.e. a giant over-sized penis might be bigger than the other mate and clip). In addition, you will be able to adjust your breeder's skin color and weight! For Nephelym, I already have it were some are fat and fit and that's all morphs.

Are there going to be pregnant images?
Pregnancy itself isn't part of the lore, reproduction happens instantly for gameplay reasons. However, with the morph system I mentioned above, adding a pregnancy belly morph would be trivial. For example, after mating a female Nephelym that received a large amount of cum, I could make her appear pregnant for awhile very easily without actually carrying an offspring.

Again I want to thank you guys, you're awesome. If you have anymore questions feel free ask. I do have one request... you may have noticed I have a pretty empty Twitter. That's not just because it's new, it's because I have no friends and I need you to help me spread the word! I'm struggling to get this game out there, and if you can help with that, I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks.

Actually I have a question (I've even created account on this forum just to ask it): how are you able to do all of that ALONE? The game looks much better even than any of the Illusion games, which are considered to be the best adult games and they're a team full of professional animators/coders/etc. I'm not even talking about similiar games like Cloud Meadow and Breeding season, which only contain sprite animations, despite having some absolute crazy funding from patreon. I'm genuinely sorry if you're truly such a capable person and my post offends you... but I just don't believe it. I'll just tell you how it is, you look like a scammer.

@Farheim: No offense taken, I knew this question would come up!

It is just me, and no I promise I'm not a scammer. If you are a $2 patron you can play the early alpha right now and see exactly what you see above (you need a Windows gaming machine from 2012+). If you want to hold out, the public build will be out once it's stable. If there is some way I can prove I am the real deal, let me know.

Truth be told, I am a very unusual human; I really am capable of building what you see. Not to get all dramatic, but the reason I can pull this off is because I have no social life. Game development is all I have ever done since I was a kid. Imagine desiring to do nothing else day in and day out but learn how make high quality games. You this for 20+ years and you tend to forget how far you have come.

So why did I use my skills to make raunchy porn game? Why not become a freelance artist?
I was a freelance artist for awhile, but my lack of social skills eventually cost me the job. Sad but true. I decided I didn't want to be a loser in extreme poverty anymore, and I wanted my own project. With the death of Breeding Season, I noticed there was a niche in the "unusual hentai" game genre that needed to be filled, so I started BOTN. I thought, if I could use my skills to bring people happiness and pleasure... well dammit if I didn't finally do something good.

Here's some other things:
It did take 7 months, it's not like I did this overnight.
I used a really awesome engine (I can't mention it because my game is porn, and the developers kindly request not to be associated with such things).
Because I was a professional freelance artist, I already have a solid pipeline.
I underestimated how attaching my sex drive to something I already liked to do anyway would accelerate development tenfold! Ha....

@Ethereal Dragon: Thank you!

Well as a fellow asocial person I feel sympathy for you and wish you luck, and I will be definitely monitoring your patreon, but something just feels utterly wrong and rotten about all that. Maybe it's just my bad experience with this type of games and stuff but... eh whatever.

Since this seems to be your first project, I don't think it was a good idea to release your Patreon without a public demo of the game. This project immediately caught my eye when I first saw it due to the high quality art and content, but the lack of a public demo is very off putting for me.

@TheDarkMaster: To be honest, I debated about that and didn't know what would be best. I'm not trying to be greedy or anything like that, I literally looked at other campaigns and noticed their first alpha was patron-only. My thinking was I didn't want the public to experience a game that crashed and had lots of problems that caused them never to return. Surprisingly, I haven't had bug reports, just some performance issues. Because of that I think I can push out a public build much sooner!

I have heard your feedback, and I completely understand, so I will be striving to get a public build out ASAP. Perhaps as soon as I add performance controls, which I am working on right now.

I can tell you one thing, and I'm of a similar opinion of TDM it's a good idea to have a demo even if it's buggy, that's what people who download the demo are for. We the players are basically your soundboard and what you as a single person can do is limited. You cannot find all the potential bugs the game might have without help. This is where other players come in handy for. I'm a supporter of Rack 2 and I can say the Fek would not be able to putout a update as fast if he himself had to plod through his game and search for every bug by himself.

Also I'm in the same boat as you with being socially inept. Having Asperger's is both a blessing and a curse.

Quite impressive. It's potential is obvious, and it's clear you have some dedication. However, to get folks intrigued enough to throw money at it, it's a good idea to get at least a basic playable demo out. You could potentially still gain patrons without it but the vast majority will glance at it, note the lack of a demo, and a good chunk of them will assume a scam and then discard it from their mind. It's just like selling any other product, while in the initial stages of Kickstarter and such games could get away with promises that they may or may not keep, folks have grown wise/cynical to such things and require a more tangible promise.

In order to garner support you need two base things at this point. A demo, and communication. With good communication amongst your followers and passersby, you may be able to postpone the public's withdrawal of interest from your project. But only for a time before folks may see you as a sort of snake oil salesman.

Meh I regret it now, I should have made it public. I'm learning as I go, I promise!

Would it be bad to switch it? Existing patrons would probably be pissed...

I am making good progress on getting graphics options in place, and a new cleaner UI that uses WAY less texture memory. Once that's done, I will test it and release it as a public build.

Everyone makes mistakes, especially new developers. I don't think your existing patrons will mind too much if you push out a public build and then reserve the next one or few for them.

I have a question about m/m f/f - how such sex will affect the game if it's all about breeding?

If you want funds, don't make it public))) I personally will pledge to get a next build. Looks so cooool!
Now, I have a question about m/m f/f - how such sex will affect the game if it's all about breeding?
Holding back versions to encourage pledges is fine, but there should be something public for people to have a go at as a sort of demo. Especially for a first time developer who doesn't have a previous product to show off for free or that's quite famous on its own.

I agree with this, and it's why my next build will be public. From then on, the latest build will be patron-only as originally planned (and eventually it will become public once tested and stable).

I received this feedback from multiple sources, the first should build should have been public because I'm new on the scene. My goal is to earn your trust, I get that there are a lot of scammer assholes out there--but I am not one of them.

Anyway, next build is progressing nicely--I aim to have it done within hours!

@art926: Same-sex breeding will function similar to other games of the genre. Their stats and level will increase, but no offspring will be produced.

Thanks, I really appreciate the support I have received. As a sign of good faith I have released my first public build:

I hope this puts to rest any thought that I might be a scammer! Please download it, enjoy it, and give me feedback.

Oh and this new build let's you adjust graphics settings to improve performance!

Awesome definitely looking forward to this, kinda sad about no actual pregnant bellies but happy about inflated bellies, would the female player character also be able to get a pregnant belly from that?heck maybe even think about maybe having the female player get pregnant but a sped up pregnancy?best of both worlds

@DerelictWulf ... egads, man! I don't even know where to start! Absolutely beautiful game. I can't imagine how many hours went into this. I've only played around with the Foxen and Vulwargs so far (game crashed after trying to harvest a foxen with low energy - the game did a fade to black, as though ending the day, then faded straight back to the foxen management menu, then crashed when I tried to exit), but the sheer number of animations just in what I've seen is staggering.

I can't say that I'm a complete fan of every design choice, but that's entirely within my expectations. I've noticed a few small typos in some of the dialogue (specifically, there's a case of your/you're confusion in the initial dialogue), but nothing major even there. Really, really impressed so far.

Just out of curiosity, how much effect on phenotypes does breeding have? I had a foxen born that didn't really match either of her parents - she was more 'fit', and her coloring was brown, while her father was green and her mother was purple.

Edit: As a benchmark, I'm playing on 'low' graphics settings. My computer was perfectly adequate for playing games in 2014, but it's getting older and it was never exactly a 'gaming' rig.

@Cog: Thanks for the feedback! That harvest crash should be fixed in tonight's patron build, along with a lot of other bugs.
As for phenotypes, right now it's fairly primitive. The offspring has a significantly greater chance of inheriting their parent's color scheme, and that's it. Eventually, I want to open it up to body type, stats, etc.
Also feel free to voice what you aren't a fan of--I want to hear all feedback and improve the game as much as possible.

I did a playtest of the public demo. Here are some thoughts I had of the game after my playthrough.
  • Getting around is quite slow and the biggest downtime when playing is traveling from place to place. Adding in a fast travel system for getting to major locations like the farm and town would help a lot in reducing this downtime. A way to run faster would also be nice for while you're exploring.
  • The game world looks very good and is very well detailed. There might be a touch too much bloom, but overall well done.
  • It took me wandering off in random directions three times before I finally figured out where the town is. Give the player more direction at the start of the game and what they should do first (Maybe start them with a free monster facility of their choice so they get to start capturing monsters right away?) Another option would be to add a compass like in the Elder Scrolls games with highlighted locations so the player has a relative idea of where places are.
  • Waterfalls and white plums of water look good, rivers do not. Something to come back to later.
  • Escape does not close the menu, you have to right click. In general, both right click and escape should probably do the same thing.
  • It would be nice if in the menu we had the option to rebind keys. This would also be a good way to find out what the controls are.
