Currently, Astra is present in both Flint's and Alex's dreams, but as an observer and unbeknownst to the dreamer (and any fellow demons that may be present). Same with the dreams of some of the townsfolk, but since HeroicSpirit didn't mention those, I assume they're not important to the story...

The "genes" are actually a point-score system the game uses to determine which race you are, and it just so happens that a lot of races have some very generic things that count towards their score (e.g. being above a certain height, having a human face).
