I'll be giving out a bunch more keys with the Alpha2 release. At least 10,000 more, mostly to the older register accounts like last time but some public ones as well.

Test server update

So far, still updates to get some enhancements to the engine all working smoothly, and to have the capabilities there for new upcoming features. Also got some more bugs fixed.

  • Introduced a preliminary to restore player instances of game data. This should make some content work that wasn’t before, like the Macsen sex scenes that required tracking a “fondness” he had for each player. It also gets items restoring to their previous equip/unequipped state, and makes a lot of new content we’re working on possible. It’s just preliminary since it’s just a short persistence, and there are a lot of things I need to do over the next few weeks to get it fully capable and efficient.
  • Fixed some more issues with parsing. “Eyes” would sometimes say they are bare.
  • Fixed an issue where the camera would move inaccurately in some cases, particularly when teleporting a great distance.
  • Made some small client changes to improve its efficiency slightly.
  • Lowered the rate of libido gain (did this one a while ago and forgot to note it).
  • Libido is now mostly working and updating correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where some game objects would not get listened for changes on them. Only affects some new content being added, and nothing that was previously there.

I did notice some more issues with the parsing of what clothing is covering correctly. Some things seems to be showing bare and I’m not sure if it was doing that before this update or not.
I also think there’s some issues with parts of the player and/or their clothing being “cum covered”, “egg-filled”, and things like that, and how they’re handled by the content, especially with multiple things like that. I have a more robust ailments/conditions system which I might want to have implemented for the Alpha 2 release.
And there is some odd issue with underwear that makes them unequipable now that I need to look into. But besides that it seems like I’ve gotten most most of the new issues that have come up from this recoding resolved.

Maybe a few keys given to let's say 10 lucky people tommorow?

No, sorry, @Matrix. It's not in the state that I want/need more people. I want a nice and polished new release before I give out more access to the main server.
There are also efficiency issues with the first alpha that I'm solving here.

These updates aren't even on the main server yet, and I've gotten adequate feedback from Alpha1 and don't need more until Alpha2 is released.

The only way to get a key for the main server between now and the next batch of keys I give out with the Alpha2 release is to have one from your own or another's pledge that they give out.

Here's a preview of the new input feature that's been added in.

GPkJil4.gif

It's something I've wanted to add for a long time, but took a while to figure out the right implementation that'd be flexible in how it can be used as well as polished. Well, that and it took a while just to get the game ported 100% onto my new engine.

We'll be using this for quite a bit of content in different ways really soon.

Test server update

  • Added an open ended system for prompting text inputs from the player.
  • Added an additional “submit” input key into bindings. Default is “enter”. This is used for text inputs since the default “space” for confirming other things obviously doesn’t work well when it comes to typing things that could have spaces.
  • Added in the key for switching between different interaction focuses in the game (ie between chat, the map, and scenario) to the settings, which previously wasn’t rebindable. Default is “tab”.
  • When you don’t meet the requirements to select a dialog option, it now gives some hint to what you’re lacking.
  • Made some error messages more clear.
  • Fixed another engine issue where not everything that should be listened to was actually listened to.
  • Fixed an engine issue where Scenarios weren’t restoring instances correctly.
  • Made improvements to how the instancing is done to further reduce memory and data.
  • Fixed an issue with player saves being loaded, which lead to instance restoring being messed up.
  • Fixed an issue where saves weren’t working for supporters on the main server (well, once I get the Alpha2 release done and up on the main server, that’ll be fixed)

I think things are mostly pretty smooth and mostly bug free now?
Though the restoring of different states is still a sort of “short” memory thing. Things seem to work fine from a new playthrough. When restoring from a save, sometimes there are issues. I’ll get that fully working as intended soon.
Probably going to take a break from that engine stuff and see if I can get some new content added myself, though. Also need to see about implementing a better system with dealing with parts of the body or clothing made to be “cum covered” and so on.

so is a "public" (no key needed) version still coming eventually? i read it was supposed to happen quite a long time ago but got delayed. Just curious. Will probably follow this and check it out when that happens unless someone gives me a key lol

There's been a dialogue wheel in the game for awhile now.  The new feature is entering text.

Programming wise, things seem to be in a good place unless there is some new crash bug or something that's come up that I haven't seen yet.
The new engine is a lot more efficient, and I just have maybe 3-4 days total of programming to do to completely have it ready.

It's April 10th now, so that's plenty of time left for that, but it's a question of having the content I want it to have, both enough of it and polished up in time. That's much more questionable.

So I'm not sure if I'm going to hit that April goal for the release. I'd like to, but I ultimately want it to be a good release.

I want to write a lot myself to help in that regard, but first I really need to add some more to the site such as polls, a way for supporters to redeem extra rewards for their contributions, and some other things.

Whether it's out in April or it's delayed until the next month, I'm still going to be giving out a few thousand free keys so a lot more non-Patrons can play the Alpha2 release, so be on the lookout for that.

Additionally, I spent some time rewriting a lot of the Patreon scraping bot that gives people game access, which fixes some minor issues issues with it. I also got it to use about 1/7th the memory it was using when I hastily wrote it in the past, which was getting in the way of how much was available for that game itself.

@Sapphire, yeah. But not during alpha. It never got delayed, it's just I recently decided to make a new engine and actual finish the game. In the past it was "I'm not sure I can commit to finishing it" and on hold, not delayed.

@IvoryOwl, mhm. That's been there since the very first prototype, actually. I really need to change the UI but I don't really have a good idea of how. There'll still be a dialog wheel after such a change, though.

Alpha 2 Release-Candidate 1

Wew.. I kept running into one issue after another that made this take a lot longer. Ended up having to recode a significant amount to get the game-state to properly restore for different players. Then I kept finding a bunch of other bugs, when I want the features and content here to be nicely bug free and polished.

I have updated the main server as well as the test server with this release candidate.  The main server, at the time of writing this, still has the same old content from Alpha 1(except for what's added due to bug fixes that aren't on the content), but tomorrow I’m going to be looking over what is in good enough of shape to be put up on the main server as well.
By the time the proper Alpha 2 release comes around (should be in the middle of May, depends on if new issues are found and how long it takes to get the content for it finalized), the main server should be brought up to parity again. There’s just some content on the test server that needs to be polished up and finalized enough first. That should be about 3-4x the content the prototype had, and 50-75% more than Alpha1.

Game

  • Tons of recoding of stuff under the hood… Bleh
  • Updated NPC cards so that changes to them are updated as they happen. (ie changing their stats, portrait, etc)
A complicated part of the backend is working correctly when it comes to instancing and saving/restoring different game states. This fixes a ton of issues, including the not having clothing/items equiped or unequipped properly how they were last time you played, among tons of other things that were limited with content moving forward especially
  • Cum/Squirt is now in the list of descriptions that you can change.
  • Stats levels on chargen can now be selected via dropdown in addition to the slider and are now faded out if you can’t afford them
  • Added a new %____Short descriptor to parsing for all body parts that always outputs a concise description
  • Logical NOT (aka !) in the writing parser now properly works with function conditionals
  • Made more changes to how the scenario scenes are delivered, so the entire scroll back is there. No more fancy removing duplicate scenes since they often aren’t duplicates and mess up the flow. Now it just works more straight forward.
  • Removed the spin of the space station map. Will replace it with something else later on.
  • More minor client efficiency improvements
  • Saves have been wiped
  • Fixed a new crash bug
  • Fixed an exploit that allowed faster than intended movement (still needs improvements, though)
  • Fixed the herm trait not having default penis and breast sizes
  • Fixed an issue where body parts with a synonym appeared twice in the descriptions part of chargen
  • Fixed some default description issues
  • Fixed a new issue with clearing saves that came up in the last update
  • Fixed an issue where the string parsing wouldn’t show falsey values like “0”
  • Fixed an issue where the word counting didn’t count the words in dialog, and thus made it appear as though less was added
  • Fixed the remaining issue with the camera sometimes not focusing on quite the right spot when first entering a map
  • Fixed another parsing issue that would show “PARSER_ERROR”. Should be the last unintended one
  • Fixed an issue with underwear not working right on a newly created character with the default sex not changed
  • Fixed the text on the bottom right in the game being that super outdated message. Woops.
  • Fixed an issue with the site not giving an error when trying to add a duplicate name to your account. Instead, you can now pick any name you want for additional characters and only your account name is unique, so you can now have a non-unique character name that someone else also has. This also includes a special id to differentiate duplicate numbers when they appear. (Sorry, everyone that was trying to make a character name “Slut” before!)

Other

  • (Hopefully) Better clarified things about when Patrons receive keys, which is when payment is confirmed.

Tools

  • Fixed a new issue in newer versions of Firefox, and sped a part of it up.

There are some keys on the blog post, though I'd prefer people just take one if they can help test and find bugs or other problems and report them.

Hmn, did it?  I need to make it work better for spotty connections and handle reconnections, which is a large part of why it's still alpha. That's a big part of what's planned for the Alpha 3 release after this one, though.

Not a problem with the server itself, as the vast majority can stay on it fine for days upon days, and I just need to handle hiccups in connections or browser lagging better, which isn't a huge deal but it's just that I haven't gotten to that yet.

==FORUMS/EXPERIENCE ATTEMPTING TO REPORT BUGS/FEEDBACK - GET YOUR ASBESTOS SUIT READY==
* <frustratedrant>YOU ASKED FOR FEEDBACK, AND YET I DON'T HAVE PERMISSION TO POST IN THE LEWD FORUMS? THERE IS A BIG ERROR TELLING ME I DON'T HAVE PERMISSION, AND IT IS UNCLEAR WHERE TO POST ALPHA RC2 BUGS/FEEDBACK. PLEASE MAKE IT CLEAR AND EASY TO GIVE FEEDBACK OR YOU WILL NOT GET MUCH FEEDBACK. SO NOW THE THING ISN'T TELLING ME I CAN'T POST, BUT SINCE I WROTE YOU A NOVEL IT SAYS "Body is x characters too long." PLEASE FIX THAT. NOW I JUST WANT TO KEEP THIS GOING TO SEE HOW BAD IT GETS. I'M RESORTING TO A FORUM MESSAGE. SUBMIT...GRRR. I'M GETTING A CLOUDFLARE "One more step. Please complete the security check to access playlewd.com" CAPTCHA! I WAS NOT DISSAPOINTED. I'M DROPPING THIS IN FENOXO FORUMS BECAUSE THERE SEEMS TO BE NO OTHER REASONABLE WAY TO SUPPLY FEEDBACK.</frustratedrant>

==INTRO & CHARACTER CREATION==
*The intro scrolling text sequence is very slow. An option to speed it up, or fade in the next bit with a click or other input would be appreciated. I know there is a skip option, but I wanted to read it the first time.
*The first character name should not default to the account name. This is good for security reasons, and RP/immersion reasons. It kind of wasted a slot for me, because my account name is ridiculous, and I'd never name a character that.
*The Traits area seams rather bare.
*The appearance noun and adjective input is awkward. I would have expected better default's for a porn game. See TiTS.

==GAME==
* Chose to play online.
* Tutorial tips are nice. Consider setting them off in another color, or at least the header. Since they move around, a consistent color other than white might help people notice that they have a thing they should read.
* I thought I clicked on chat, and instead moved on the map. That was a bit jarring for my first real interaction with the main UI. Maybe I clicked just below it, if so thjat space at the bottom seems like it would cause little mishaps like this.
* The art for the character cards is rather nice.
* I like the little pop-ups over users when they chat.
* Typo in Macsen dialogue. “I'll remove that you at least showed some interest now, at least. I'll see you around.” I'm guessing "remove" should be "remember".
* I found the doll/android, gave her a name, then chose the option "You picked an insulting name, but are kidding.". After that I could not input anything in the text field to give her a new name. When I typed, no input. Clicking on the field confirmed my input before I could type a new name.
* Encounters seem burdensomely frequent. Once I've exhausted the options for a given creature since I'm not getting XP, items, status changes, or any other kind of award from continuing to encounter them, they just kind of keep me from smoothly travelling from point A to point B.
* If you insist on their frequency, which seems to be just about every tile, please default space to the shortest path to get through the dialogue with the least amount of consequences. "Run" would be appropriate, otherwise I might have to think about what my character would do, and actually select the right action. For practical reasons right now I jam space when I see the same character card, I have no idea what my character is doing, I get multiple dialogues I've already read, and no the character isn't into being dommed anally at the moment, or whatever the default option is.
* Am I to believe that the bird girl that I ran into is the same girl/NPC every time, or a different girl. If it is the same girl, why does she forget that we have already talked/scheduled a date. If it is a different girl, how are we having the exact same conversation that I had with every other bird girl?
* Sometimes an extra dialogue shows for the "Slanna"(SP?), amphibian herm thing. It happens right after I'm regaining my composure. Their are two options, and one of them appears to be an error showing through the interface. I'm not sure what they say, something about "PARSER". The scene quickly transitions to an over state, and I never get to select the message.
* The following passage for Kent Johnston was all messed up. Duplicated dialogue, and a bit of code poking out.
"There's a wry, practically cocky smirk to the taur's lips as those amber eyes take just a second to eye you up after your question. Not to mention just the slightest of flexes from the flanks of his lower, cervine main body. "Oh, I think I could help with that... After all, Kent Johnston has never backed down from a cavern to explore, whether it be There's a wry, practically cocky smirk to the taur's lips as those amber eyes take just a second to eye you up after your question. Not to mention just the slightest of flexes from the flanks of his lower, cervine main body. "Oh, I think I could help with that... After all, Kent Johnston has never backed down from a cavern to explore, whether it be (if !hasVagina){man or nature's!” he boasts with an almost completely straight face, ruined only by an eager, knowing grin upon his lips."
* Weird bug when navigating out of the matriarch's lair. I clicked on the exit tile, the player navigated to the exit square, and they they sort of bounced back to the starting square, and automatically navigated to the exit square again. I was unable to go up to leave the matriarchy, so I navigated away with the arrow keys. My character was then again dragged through the wall to the little walled off area of six squares to the right of the entrance. From this point forward my character was absolutely stuck. I couldn't figure out what to do, refreshed the page, and I was taken to character generation which reset my progress. This ended my play testing.

That's about all I have time for with game ending bugs,  the current state of things with the Alpha 2 RC, and the difficulty in reporting feedback. Thanks for the key post in these forums. I was interested to say the least. It looks like you have a good start, but if I could make changes I'd address the issues with ease of reporting bugs/feedback, the game ending bug I encountered, and the gratuitous unrewarding sex encounters slowing my ability to explore. Those things really zapped the fun out of the experience. I'll check back on later updates assuming you don't ban me from your site. xD

You don't have permission to post on the forums? I haven't seen that.  I mean you were logged in to them, yeah? Are you sure you didn't try to post in the test server section despite not having access to there?

And thanks for the feedback and pointing out those other issues! I'm getting the bug ones fixed now.  As far as the UI ones, I'm going to entirely redo the UI at some point in the near future and I simply don't know how how best to have it end up looking and working just yet.

And yeah, there is definitely a bit too gratuitous of sex right now. We have a lot more story and puzzle sort of content planned for the following release after this one. Though there is also the degree of which I don't want a lot of text that's just a chore to hit "next" through until many people finally get what they want.

One I can't find an issue with is the not being able to go back to the surface from the Matriarchy.

It's pretty straight forward and should look fine from what I see. And I tried it myself and it worked.

Is it maybe that you're getting disconnected upon loading the map? Do you see the number on the tiles changing when you move around inside when in the Matriarchy?  It sounds like you're rubberbanding back from being disconnected, but there was no message saying you got disconnected?
Someone else reported that same thing and I can't see what the exact issue is to fix there. But is changing to the other map actually slow and freezes your browser? For me it's instant, but that could be the problem.

Yeah, the forum thing was really weird. I was logged in, and I tried to select several different sections of the forums. Perhaps it had something to do with being a new user. It did spontaneously resolve itself, but then I hit the post size limit.

So with the Matriarchy thing, the rubber banding actually reminded me of what you would see in a FPS. You travel to a point, state finally gets synced, and then you get pulled back. So that's a good way of describing the issue /visually/ for sure. It could have been a disconnect issue, but no I did not get a message about being disconnected. The really weird thing was then after the initial rubber banding, my character was dragged through the impassable wall into that seemingly inaccessible part of the map. It happened right after I moved a single tile away from the entrance/exit to the matriarchy in an attempt to get the game to recognize that I was on a space that should allow me the entrance/exit action. Since I never moved to the inaccessible tile initially (as it was seemingly impossible), it seems odd that I'd rubberband/lag to an inaccessible area. I suppose it depends on how movement is transmitted, what part of that is client side, and server side, and where checks against passable and non-passable tiles are being made. I'm guessing that must be happening in the client. Maybe it registered/transmitted multiple moves which then weren't checked server side from a passable/impassable standpoint. I'm just spitballing here, because I have no idea what your code is doing. Changing to the other map was smooth. It did not slow or freeze my browser. Also the chrome instance was not polluted with any extensions  that may have altered my browser FYI. I just thought I'd add that.

I'm not sure. I see others post now and then. I would think you just legit tried to post to the test server area that you don't have permission to without being a backer and have test server access. You should be able to post under the Alpha 2 section and bugs section for it, though.

And yeah, it's a similar problem. It's interpolation that isn't done very well right now. Before that, there was lag when trying to move for some people. I was trying to get it to work off the old code so, but I can see that's not doable. I'm recoding it properly right now...
Not a huge deal. It's just I wanted to get this update working nicely by the middle of this month. I still have content to fix up, and didn't want to have to spend a ton more time programming more when I could hopefully save that for the next update, but oh well.
