Quiet Ted, pedantic nerds are discussing fantasy creatures.

@Kesil Porn game fantasy creatures 101 only covers basic behavioral and societal tropes, not looks. Since appearance will typically depend on the artist and/or target audience there's a lot of leeway in how various creatures are depicted. While the Warcraft orc look may be better suited to reaching a large audience I've seen enough hentai to know that fat disgusting pig-men can pull in plenty of attention.

P.S. Anyone else think of kobolds as dog people or has my imagination forever been tainted by Suikoden?

According to AD&D and Kobolds Ate My Baby, they're definitely dog people.

Kobolds originate from Korean mythos to vague memory, wherein they're lil dog things. DnD made them lizard things cuz who knows.

German myth, actually. My 1st edition Monster Manual has them as being dog-like.

Edit: Apparently, the change to a reptilian species occurred in 3E.

... Are you basically having an argument over how large an orcs jaws are depicted in a given medium in comparison to others?
No, we aren't. I'm just saying that orcs have no definite features yet people have accepted that the Warhammer archetype is THE way to show how orcs are and Svelliphore answered to what I said. All in all, that was a conversation I enjoyed and what I felt forum conversations should be like.

Porn game fantasy creatures 101 only covers basic behavioral and societal tropes, not looks.
Not for me. I have come across people on roleplaying sites that refused to play with people who didn't agree with their views on "real" dragon genitalia looks or where breasts should be in the body frame of a quadruped body.

While the Warcraft orc look may be better suited to reaching a large audience I've seen enough hentai to know that fat disgusting pig-men can pull in plenty of attention.
Pig men are pig men, not orcs. As far as I know, that was used as THE way to show orcs back in the day, but to me it's just like claiming that the Warhammer orcs are how the race should be. As someone who's a fan of those "fat disgusting pig-men" (as long as they don't fall in certain stereotypes), I hate it when I am forced to struggle and check the 58904589586596865768 works tagged as "orc" in a text/art repository because people tagging think that "pig man" wouldn't do somehow and can't tell the difference between "chubby", "fat", "obese" and "this makes me want to sing "Katamari on the Rocks" and/or call a doctor".

I am definitely into writing human characters being with monsters much stranger than humanoids! It wasn't the right choice for this project, so I'd understand if this one doesn't appeal, but I hope you'll take a look at some of the other work I do in the future, because I have every intention of exploring the weirder side of non-humans.
I like twinkish/biseinen guys as much as I like monsters. As I said before, I will take a look as some of the other work you do in the future because I enjoy what you came up with in the past. What I don't like is stereotypes and blandness.

I had no idea KAMB was a thing, but I love that it is and works on a BEER engine. Thank you for confirming my view of kobolds.

Not for me. I have come across people on roleplaying sites that refused to play with people who didn't agree with their views on "real" dragon genitalia looks or where breasts should be in the body frame of a quadruped body.

Then clearly they haven't taken my non-existent college course on fantasy porn. I wonder why:iiam:

Seriously though, those people seem a little extreme. There's already a certain level of suspension of disbelief needed for the setting alone that taking artistic liberties for greater appeal shouldn't be that big of a deal. Or even just having a difference of opinion since I'm sure arguments could be made for different genitalia or breast placement (I've seen animals rescued from breeders and they don't really have breasts so much as stretched skin and distended nipples, so it's not like anything other than primates really have what could be considered breasts).

Pig men are pig men, not orcs. As far as I know, that was used as THE way to show orcs back in the day, but to me it's just like claiming that the Warhammer orcs are how the race should be. I was just going for an extreme body type, not a definitive orc appearance. Sorry if I sounded judgemental at all or gave the wrong impression. Although I think I can somewhat relate to your trouble with overused/overgeneralized/improperly used tags and I get that frustration.

KAMB was the most excellent discovery I think I made in 2006. Definitely worth buying a copy, if only for the "Kobold Horrible Death Chart". Best game mechanic ever. lol

Nah, you didn't. But I know what you mean and I'm glad you know where I'm coming from. I often fear I sound like the local "HURR DURR I WANT TO [consensually] SMEX [kind, male] MONSTAHS" weirdo without any regard for any given context or what the creator intends. In truth, I simply want to expand my smut pick galleries anf give suggestions so that people know there's a niche to be tended to and reap profits from. :p

As interesting as all this other stuff is... I can't save. I know I need to right-click, I've used renpy before. After that, when I try to save, it gives an error and I have to rollback.

Great game so far; not much I can add that hasn't already been said. My only question is this: Is xp gain meant to be random (sorta)? What I mean is that it seems random whether you will gain xp from a fight or not. Seems that I only get xp from maybe one out of every four or five fights. I assume it is to discourage grinding but I just want to be sure or if it is a bug.

Played through the first release and I liked it, but I would really like a clock or day counter or something to tell me how much time has passed. Normally that wouldn't be an issue, but I noticed that if I take too long before the trial I miss being able to judge certain orcs guilt/innocence since they're already dead.

Overall I'm eagerly awaiting the next update since I want to see where things go, as usual I'm expecting great things since I've played all the other games by Sierra and liked all of them, so I have no doubts I'll like this one too.

I wouldn't worry about it. The trial is pretty easy as long as you complete all the training you have to pay for. Not to mention the fact all I got was 2 xp then I went to sleep and went up to level 3.

I've had no trouble saving. Are you on Mac or Linux?

I'm not sure what to tell you here, this isn't something anyone else has reported. Is the game's folder, or the save folder, in a location you don't have write access to? That's purely a guess, though.

Experience gain from battles is based on the difference between Sabia's level and her opponent's. The random orcs do have slightly varying levels, but Sabia will eventually become too strong to get any experience from them.

Cool thanks for the reply. Not a major thing; I was just looking at grinding to beat Lutvrog without a handicap and decided that if it wasn't bugged it was far to much work :p

Yeah, we wanted to make grinding mostly impossible or people would unbalance everything in between releases.

how do you get into the kennels?
CleansingFire is correct, this is content planned for a later part of the plot.

A minor problem: the Linux package follows the common practice of putting a .tar archive inside of a compressed file (.bz2 in this case). The problem is that in the last version's package the inner file is missing its suffix (.tar), which may confuse whatever software one is using to unpack the archive. (It happened with mine.) Adding the suffix manually to the filename allows the file to be extracted. I am not sure how the package is created, but if it's done directly by RenPy, it may be a bug in RenPy itself. Anyway, it's an issue only for those trying to run the game on Linux, and those who do probably know enough to quickly guess the fix.

I think this happened when I renamed the versions. I didn't realize that for the Linux one changing the filename would actually cause a problem with the suffix. I believe I'll be able to avoid this in the future easily enough, so thanks for letting me know!

Better late than never, I suppose. After all this time, this week I have the pleasure to try this game. BTW, there is a guide for this one made by the same guy (s3382306) that did the Noxian Nights one. I told you because I haven't found the the link to it in either the blog or the Patreon page.

Although I'm not a big fan of the orcs/Sabia scenes the rest are enjoyable (my favorites are the ones when Sabia is in control, like the one with Barrick or the one with Lutvrog) or the Neve ones. On the other hand, the scenes in the relief tents left me a bit cold (with the exception of the catgirls' one). The scene in the bar was a welcome surprise, because it shows the ruthlessness of the main character. It makes a very nice counterpoint to her awkwardness when she gets the Silver Blade. Both scenes do a great job of showing the complexities of her character.

A minor gripe/complaint:

First day at the camp. I have 100 stamina. After picking trash for the first time, you spend 60 stamina instead of 30 (double). After buying the broom the first time , it's worse: 45 instead of 15 (triple). Is that intended? It sounds a bit too harsh to me, specially when it contradicts the values shown in the game.

From what I read, the focus on this one won't be the combat, but I hope that we can have the chance to have some with teams instead on one-on-one. In my last (optimized) playthrough Sabia was a bit overpowered. Nothing dramatic, but it shows.

Typo (probably already fixed, but just in case):

Warchief Groknak (if you choose to follow Rokgrid's plan after completing the catgirl main quest):

Ah, Captain Rokgrid belives he can expand law to all tribes.

I think that it's believes.

Regarding the art, I'm no expert but I feel there is solid progress from NN's art. I just feel that Sabia and Lynn's mother should look older. As it stands right now, she looks like an older sister (nothing wrong with that idea by the way) but it doesn't really fit.

I'm very curious in seeing what is next.

Maybe it's a mage thing? They do tend to age slower than normal people, and in some universes magic can stop the aging process altogether, we'd need Sierra to chime in to confirm that though.

My knowledge of erotic games is limited, and I had quite mixed feelings when I read the pitch, but the art is neat, the writing style is detailed enough to be interesting without being too heavy, and the multiple ways to solve a situation are interesting too.
Quite curious to see how this will evolve.

The game starts with orcs, but we intend to go much bigger than that, so look forward to a wide variety of content!

The first several times Sabia works, there's an additional -30 cost to represent how badly she underestimated manual labor. There's an extra line about this, but it may not have been clear enough, because this has been a common report.

Typo (probably already fixed, but just in case):

Actually, it seems everyone else missed this one! Expect it to be fixed in the impending 0.3.0, thanks!

There is some anti-aging magic, and even more magic to hide the effects of aging. Sabia mentions this briefly in her conversation with Jadk regarding Lundar being a kingdom that idolizes youth.

So do we have unlimited time to prepare for the Horned God ceremony or not? Because it takes a long time to get the energy needed to go on the multiple hunts needed to bag that White deer and also get the Merchant plus raise enough coin to buy supplies for the ceremony.
