Kingdom of Deception is a dark fantasy RPG with an emphasis on inter-species politics and player choice. Mac/Linux versions available.

Check our Patreon for more information. The game will be available to patrons on May 25th and to the public on June 1st.

After centuries of struggle between races, humans have established the fearsome Kingdom of Lundar. Fueled by ambition and hunger for glory, the human forces are on the verge of completely annihilating all territories controlled by creatures that have not become vassals. The last hope of fighting off the human armies, a vast monster horde, has been defeated, leaving Lundar as the master of all.

Their outside enemies defeated, the noble families and military factions of Lundar have quickly turned on each other in an internal struggle for power. In this vicious conflict, not even religious or family bonds will be spared.

Sabia is the daughter of a noble house and a rising commander in the royal army. Determined and ambitious, she thinks she's on her way to the top... but things are not as they appear. She's made as many enemies as allies, both in her own family and in the army. Now that the war is over, there are some who believe that she might be better off removed.

Betrayed by her own sister and stranded in the deepest, darkest territories that hold the remnants of the orcs, Sabia seems to be taken out of the struggle for power. But though these orcs may have bottomless lusts and favor brute violence, they're more than that. Sabia might be their slave now - but she is not going to stay that way.

As she claws back power for herself and plans her revenge, she starts to realize that there's more to the monsters than she thought. Perhaps she didn't understand the monster horde, the truth about the war, or the nature of her own family. She'll have to make hard choices about what to sacrifice on her path to revenge... but one way or another, there will be a reckoning.

I see a real chance to borrow from Orc Dominion in this one.
Was that Sierra's short story? Because when she posted it, she mentioned that she was thinking of making it into a game. You can definitely see the resemblance.

Happy to see you guys interested! We've just released it. ^-^

Every time you post I can't remember if I'm here to fap or legislate, and I honestly couldn't care less.
=D

I believe he's referring to an erotica series by that name. I've read a little, and there will be a few similarities in terms of the fetishes, but we plan for KoD to have a broader variety of content. But the story I wrote back then was definitely part of the inspiration for KoD.

Someone releasing a complete game! For free! Have I died?
To be clear, it's not complete yet, we're just beginning this project. It will eventually be a complete free game like our last one, though, yes. Thank Patreon for making this model of development possible!

how do you recover stamina in the orc camp?
Sabia has a tent of her own, you'll see that it doesn't highlight with all the tents in the center of camp.

Congratulations on your next project.

Sabia .... beautiful ....mmmm
What can i say ... getting addicted to your games ?

Noxian Nights for me was 9.5/10
The Last Sovereign it is 9.8/10

and now this Kingdom of Deception It looks very good, the story plot intrigue as it seems, the interface big wide window and the drawings are really very good more seems like Noxian Nights story again with images, between them i choose both :)

The only thing I can say it is different the combat way and not the usual inventory but i don't know if these will be final. I like the stories you have written in which you have talent as i have seen.

From what I've played so far the game is good. Looking forward to do more (also hoping to do that hunting training).

I noticed there was no art for Sabia when she where's the leather armour? was this intentional or has it not been designed yet?

What races are you planning on having? You've mentioned Humans, orcs, elves (and implied different types) and Minotaurs, so will there be others?

Gone forever, I'm afraid. We don't want to take the risk.

We went back and forth deciding how much of Sabia's equipment to represent visually and decided that outfits were the best return for our work. As for races, yes, there will be others. Exactly what, you'll have to find out.

H-games with orcs = meh and overdone.

H-games with orcs that don't look like orcs, but rather like loin-clothed human males painted in green = double-meh

Where are orc females btw ?

I know this game isn't for me, and I hope you can forgive my rant.

Your team has talent, obviously, and it's just my hope that you can make a game one day that avoids all the tropes of the genre.

Porn game fantasy creatures 101. There are never orc females, orcs can only reproduce by raping other species making them both sexual and inherently more evil than other races. Optional: subvert the trope by having 1 moral orc/tribe that mates with willing partners forcing the protagonist to either reconsider their opinion of orcs or acknowledge their own evil nature.

Fantasy Creatures 101. There are no orc females. Orc reproduction is never addressed as the always chaotic evil species exist solely as a threat to the protagonist.

Nah, there are two common tropes regarding orcs, one of which supposes that orc females exist (since we get half-orcs and all that).

It's clear to me which trope the authors of the game tried to follow, and it's not the one you're talking about.

Since I can't see any orc females on any pictures of the game however, I am going to assume that the authors don't know their classics either, or that they just restricted themselves to a convenient elf'ish/orc'ish/human mish-mash of whatever suited them on the moment, to fit the canvas of their story. I must admit that I haven't played the game, so I could be wrong (hence also my previous question).

In a game (yes, fantasy H-game, but still) that quite so heavily advertizes the narrative, the world-building and clearly displays heaps of careful talent through the rest of its art, this uh,... mistake diminishes the end result to me, because it feels as though the game pretends to be something that it's not, and that some of the efforts of the team went down the shitter.

Not that it matters that much, since I've readily acknowledged that it probably wasn't the kind of game for me, but I wanted to at least provide some feedback, in the hopes that one of their next games appealed more to me (and people that enjoy traditional RPG tropes), with an even better story, world-building and less green-painted loin-clothed male-only human tribesmen posing as poorly dentured orcs.

I feel you there. The idea of orcs as tusked, brutish green skinned males was mostly coined by Warhammer Fantasy, and I loathe how some will keep on perpetuating it. I often wonder if it's a lost cause, just like how people will stick to D&D creature traditions even if they're wrong (female nagini being known as naga, kobolds being little lizard creatures and so forth).

It's actually stated in game that the female orcs were wiped out by the humans, so now the male orcs have to rely on other species (like humans) to survive.

Hmm. I was going to make a post, then I decided not to because I thought ThisIsMe was probably done complaining, but now I guess I will after all. Wall-of-text coming up:

@SierraLee: I'm another person who liked it in general. Like Number13, I was momentarily confused about the graphics not changing when switching to leather armor, but it's an understandable limitation. I enjoyed all the sex scenes I got on my play-through; however, I did feel like the game has relatively restricted "choice" in that regard, in the sense that I assume getting raped by orcs in the intro is mandatory (if it wasn't, I didn't manage to avoid it on my playthrough, even though I wasn't explicitly aiming for it) and if I remember correctly the game assumes that Sabia will want to have sex with the orc trainer if you beat him in training. Like I said, that's not a problem for me since I was into all of the pairings that came up in my game, but it seems like it might be a negative for someone who is more picky and has different tastes. (To a lesser extent, the whoring being a quick way to earn money also pushes the player in that direction, but I think it would be hard to remove that element without also removing the sense that Sabia as a character is being pushed in that direction by her circumstances, which is part of the appeal of the scenario I would think. It seems like it would be easier to add a check for whether the player wants Sabia to try to have sex with the training orc, or to abstain.) Or course, you can't make a sex game that has equal appeal to everyone, but if it's intended for it to be easy for Sabia to get into sexual situations without the player choosing it, it might make sense to give a bit more warning in the introductory post. I dunno, though, now that I think about it, if the orc gangbang is in fact unavoidable, that will probably give players enough warning near the start of the game about what kind of scenarios are possible.

The combat element seemed medium, although I'm not a good RPG player so there might be more to it than I noticed. The best strategy I could figure out was to consistently wait for two turns, then do crits on the third, but I may have missed a bunch of things. I wasn't sure whether to try to grind for money to buy training or not; I ended up doing it for some but not all of the training options.

The politics part was enjoyable but I had some trouble understanding what the consequences of my choices would be. For example, I was caught a bit off guard by having to decide whether or not to make a deal with one of the orc sub-chiefs before being able to talk to either of the other two (although maybe if I had been more attentive, I would have been able to decide which one I wanted to support before talking to any of them). I also wasn't quite sure whether things would start moving on automatically after a certain number of days, or if all of the game would wait for me on my own time, which kept me a bit off-balance in decision-making in general. While the game doesn't seem particularly punishing of "sub-optimal" choices, it doesn't feel as much like a real choice to me if I feel like I have to decide before I know what the decision is really about.

@ThisIsMe: as far as I can tell, your posts consist mainly of negative opinions derived in part from uncharitable assumptions based on the sample pics. As Number13 said, the absence of female orcs is a plot point, not a plot hole. That doesn't make this plot element immune to criticism, but your criticism would probably be taken more seriously if you had actually played the game.

@ThisIsMe and @Kesil: what's so bad about otherwise human-looking green-skinned males with tusks? The game clearly seems to be focused on hetero sex, and the PC is female, so it makes good porn-logic that her potential partners would be male (and presumably the audience will be interested in male-on-female sex scenes). Green skin...well, I guess it's not really a big turn-on to most people, but it doesn't seem particularly unappealing either. I can see why someone would be "meh' about it. Tusks/big teeth seem reasonably popular in monster porn. Even if you feel like they're more vanilla-human than you would like, isn't it at worst about the same as ordinary humans?

@Kesil in particular: why should other people care about your monster-lore peeves? In general, I mean--I'm personally sympathetic to your naga peeve because I dislike getting linguistic stuff "wrong" (although isn't "female nagini" redundant? Also, wouldn't the plural be "naginis"? I don't think "nagini" is a plural form in Sanskrit and one of my pet peeves is unetymological use of invariant plurals in English) but it's not like any of this is real. It's all fictional and people have free license to do whatever. I put "wrong" in quotation marks because this stuff isn't objectively wrong, it's just something that some people find annoying, but evidently many others do not.

There's nothing wrong about human-looking green-skinned males with tusks. But that doesn't mean they're "orcs". It means they're watered down versions of a stereotype of an orc. Why should other people care about my monster-lore peeves? Well, I want to think that people may want to do more creative things than copying Tolkien elves or Warcraft orcs. That's how Final Fantasy started and, by the time FF V was released, they already had creatures of their own.
I have nothing against human-looking green-skinned males with tusks. As it turns out to be, I'm a straight female, so... shock horror, I'm interested in games in which you can shag male monsters whilst playing as a female. Though I'm usually okay with humanoid ones, I like those with "weirder" looks, so, if any, a human with a different colour and funky teeth feels as tame as it gets for me, so calling them "orcs" is just like TiTS saying that ausars are totally aliens when they're little more than enhanced inumimi. But that's just me and my tastes and biased ideas, as well as another seemingly lost cause because no one wants to do the nasty with icky beings in videogames.

Re: language: using "nagini" would be more than enough, yeah. But I don't know how Sanskrit plurals work.

@Kesil: I don't understand the way in which "that doesn't mean they're 'orcs'". From my point of view, there is no such thing as "orcs" to be in the first place, really. It's just a name attached to some things in different fantasy universes with a vague family resemblance: there's no generally applicable definition.

I do understand wanting something a bit more exotic in terms of physique than recolored humans; I guess we'll see how the other races in this game are portrayed. As you say, that's a matter of taste, and it seems like not that many sources of written porn (at least, that I've seen) cater to this taste by having really "weird" or ugly monsters. (Which is odd, since it seems easy enough to find CG visual porn with grotesque male monsters.) Xax's Hell Game (which I know you're already familiar with) is the best one I know of, and of course that's gay male rather than straight content.

I guess this game is hybrid written/drawn rather than pure written, but for some reason there also seems to be less drawn than CG gross monster porn.

I know Sierra's done some writing featuring zombies (although I haven't read it, so I don't know whether they're the gory type) so she might not have much personal objection to "icky"-type content. But it looks like patron polls will also be an influence on the content that goes into the game, so it may depend to some degree on their preferences...

Re: Sanskrit. I don't know it at all either. However, the Googling I did before posting semmed to indicate that the plural of "nagini" in Sanskrit would probably be something like "naginya(h)". My preference is to default to English plural forms with -s or -es if the plural form of a loanword is unknown or in some way unsuitable for use in English.

I guess I didn't really use the right words. Whilst I'm aware (at least, to the extent of my knowledge!) that "orcs" don't have definite features, what I wanted to say is that we can't say that the Warhammer archetype is THE way to show how orcs are. I like how Sierra games have fared so far, so I wanted to weigh in on the issue about not relying too much on stereotypes and what Tinman deemed as "porn game fantasy creatures 101". One of the reasons why I like written and drawn erotica is how stories and characters don't have to be restricted unless that's what the creator intended. So I wanted it to be less like "boo, this won't cover my interests" and more like "I know you can be more creative because you have the tools and you showed it to me in other works". As a music lover, this reminds me of the classic "have they sold out or is just that you don't like their more conventional sound?". But just like a music career isn't over until the artist calls it quits, this game has just started its development, so I will just remain hopeful and follow its growth.

Thanks for the notes on Sanskrit and your own preferences. I do appreciate them, just like how much I appreciate having this little talk. I want to think we're relatively keeping it on topic!

... Are you basically having an argument over how large an orcs jaws are depicted in a given medium in comparison to others?

What. They're orcs. Beyond "Bein' buff" there is no overriding stereotype to orcs. And even in the context of this narrative it paints them as more civilized as others.

Quiet Ted, pedantic nerds are discussing fantasy creatures.

@Kesil Porn game fantasy creatures 101 only covers basic behavioral and societal tropes, not looks. Since appearance will typically depend on the artist and/or target audience there's a lot of leeway in how various creatures are depicted. While the Warcraft orc look may be better suited to reaching a large audience I've seen enough hentai to know that fat disgusting pig-men can pull in plenty of attention.

P.S. Anyone else think of kobolds as dog people or has my imagination forever been tainted by Suikoden?

Well, this thread took a turn. That's fine as far as I'm concerned, but forgive me if I don't respond fully to everything.

Some of you have very strong opinions about orcs, which is well and good. I'll take your feedback into consideration as a general principle. However, I'm afraid that if your ideas about how core fantasy tropes are somewhat set in stone, you are probably not going to like my writing in general.

We chose the races we did for this game and created them in a specific fashion for the sake of the broader story. Like every other story, Our Orcs Are Different. In this case, however, their nature is also an integral part of our deeper goals. So all I can say now is that I hope their culture is interesting enough for the time being and their role in the plot feels justified once the game is complete.

It's possible to avoid the first scene: delay the first group, then don't propose a duel to the second group.

Refusing the Lutvrog scene is... a different question. We wanted to make Sabia her own person and not just an avatar for the player, but that's a fine line to walk. I'm not opposed to making the Lutvrog scene optional, I will give it some thought and talk to Nomo.

I have nothing against human-looking green-skinned males with tusks. As it turns out to be, I'm a straight female, so... shock horror, I'm interested in games in which you can shag male monsters whilst playing as a female. Hello! I am definitely into writing human characters being with monsters much stranger than humanoids! It wasn't the right choice for this project, so I'd understand if this one doesn't appeal, but I hope you'll take a look at some of the other work I do in the future, because I have every intention of exploring the weirder side of non-humans.

Do you like eldritch abominations? I'm working on some eldritch abominations. =D

I know Sierra's done some writing featuring zombies (although I haven't read it, so I don't know whether they're the gory type) so she might not have much personal objection to "icky"-type content. But it looks like patron polls will also be an influence on the content that goes into the game, so it may depend to some degree on their preferences...
I never got to go full weird with my zombie stories, so the main difference there is the psychological aspect.

But to clarify on patron polls: patrons get to propose individual scenes for each update, within the context we set. We don't run polls about the overall content of the game. While we do keep in mind general preference and audience appeal, major story elements being dictated by votes isn't to our taste.

I guess I didn't really use the right words. Whilst I'm aware (at least, to the extent of my knowledge!) that "orcs" don't have definite features, what I wanted to say is that we can't say that the Warhammer archetype is THE way to show how orcs are. Well, I hope in the end you won't feel that I sold out. =/ You'll definitely see some less humanoid monsters in Kingdom of Deception, and I look forward to including them, but since that isn't our main focus with this game, we need to build a foundation of core content before we can branch out.
