Couldn’t find this question anywhere to fulfill my curiosity so I’ll just ask it myself

I want to know about your characters. How you play them and all. Do you basically self insert and play how you yourself would choose? Do you roleplay them? Do you just choose the options you think are the most fun? If so I want to hear about that.

There's a recent topic here where several people (myself included) talked about our Champion(s) which gives you at least some idea how people approach their characters. To briefly sum up my way:

- I created multiple Champions for the purpose of testing out different classes/skillsets, genders and personality types.
- I have roleplaying hooks for all my Champions, though some are more detailed than others depending on whether I came up with the gameplay or character concept first. I try to make all my decisions based on how I think they should act rather than what I personally would do, which is in the process of biting at least one of them in the ass as we speak.

In my case, I currently have about 50 characters, each with a specific theme, and I play each one in a different way, always prioritizing interpretation and style above efficiency! I even use the save editor to add abilities, equipment and especially weaknesses! In addition, when I play them, I follow a specific combat style and behavior that matches the theme and background of each one of them!

I only ever play one PC at a time. I'm only on my second playthrough because my last hard drive shit the bed.

I don't bother coming up with a background for my PC in CoC or TiTS; they're a blank slate, basically, because IMO these games don't really lend themselves to full PC fluff by the player (or at least me). They're not true RPGs in the traditional sense. Much of what the PC says and feels is already predetermined by the writers. I'm not complaining when I say that, mind, it's just a fact.

when I say background, I'm being very generous! for example: I made a cowgirl named Brandy, for that, I simply created a white wizard, import the save during the tutorial, edit the save and that's it, I have an initial character with the species I want it!

I did forget one thing...when it comes to choices in the game (and this goes for ANY video game), I usually tend to play the Good Guy. Even in a video game, I don't like kicking kittens and slapping babies. I'll always free the harem, donate to charities, and turn down rewards if it will net me a bigger reward later. Basically, I enjoy playing the Han Solo/reluctant hero archetype.

On a second playthrough, however, I let the hate flow through me. ;)

When I first started the game I only had one character who was my paladin character, saving the world with the power of goodness and all that.

Now I have a character for every romance I enjoy with each one doing different things depending on how I feel the character would act in the situation. It's starting to become how i approached dragon age where I'd have like 50 save files

I wouldn't self insert my own personality onto characters: this is a porn game after all, and maintaining that separation is helpful to my sanity.

I always end up making decisions that are morally sound to me -- the opposite of the rapey asshole archetype that the game tries to punish. I wouldn't necessarily say I play a Lawful Good character, but definitely Good-type alignment -- I just never derived that much enjoyment from pissing off NPCs.

Self-inserting in a game like this is a recipe for disaster as the Champ can and absolutely will say and do things you yourself can never see yourself doing. So it leads to a disconnect and you're risking the "immersion" breaking super hard by doing it. Believe me, I tried self-inserting in a Fengame, namely TiTS for instance, there's more instances where I was like "That's not what I'd say/do" than "I'd totally do this". Because in there I'm not playing as myself, I'm clearly playing as Steele.

It's better for me in the long run to play the PC as a Character, not as me, and that's what I've been doing ever since CoC2 was in its baby tutorial phase. It's way way less frustrating to do so and allows me to disconnect enough so that anything they do doesn't ruin immersion for me. Easier to envision what they'd do/say and how they do/say it more freely too, because I'm not tying it to what I would do but rather what they would do in a situation.

Anyways, I prefer to stick to one main character file (Usually my oldest/longest in terms of days in), and making alts of that for instances like Kitsune-ifying him. Recently I tried making an alt that is basically a whole different character but like... it's hard for me to get into playing a whole different class. ^^'

Like Emerald, I play my Champion as a character separate from me. That's just how I play RPG protagonists in general, though, and it presents a problem to me when I encounter a 'blank slate' PC like the Champions of both CoC games; without anything but the most generic character traits, it's hard for me to come up with a backstory and personality for them. In fact, the only aspects of my Champion that I'm certain on are that she's feminine with a dick, what her attire is (a cloak over a gambeson over a unisex dress over comfortable underclothes and boots) and that she's not gonna be Arona's sub. Everything else is still a toss-up; starting race (catfolk or elf), class & background (black mage scholar or thief hunter), corruption level (pure or corrupt*), Kinu's personality, Brint or Brienne, whether she'll become a bimbo... So many of these are binary options that I'll probably play a second character for whichever ones I don't pick.

*This will also determine her relationship with Etheryn (pure = high confidence, corrupt = low confidence) and outcomes of quests with clearly distinct pure/corrupt endings.

I don't know if this counts as an interpretation exercise, (if someone there is trained in theater or understand dramaturgy, let me know) but when I create and play with a character, I already have a background and a general idea of who and what he should be, so I relax, close my eyes and review the whole story I created for him in my mind, trying to put myself in his place (like the flashbacks in Naruto), I don't know if this is a technique validates that the actors use it or if it’s because I’m very empathic, but it helps me to “get in character” before each game, it also helps me choose which character I’m going to use at that moment, according to my mood! (if I feel like venting a little bit of aggressiveness and violence, I use an Ork, and when I feel particularly sadistic, I choose a corrupt champion or a demon)

The last time I tried to insert myself in the game, was when I created a "gray warrior" (a character that does not specialize in anything specific, usually being mediocre in everything, but that with A LOT of effort, can reach the maximum level in everything too) in CoC1! And even though I managed to complete the game completely, with all the equipment, missions, abilities and related to all the NPCs, it was not as rewarding as I thought it would be!
Then I decided to start over, but this time, I would focus only on a specific NPC, molding my Champion to match it so that one complements the other, and it was a totally different experience! I felt that not only was it a totally satisfying gamble, but also that if I were to recapitulate his entire trajectory, it would be a story that would be worth telling! Since then, I have always created a character for every possible construction in the games!(I chose Amily to start, since she was one of my favorite companions and one of the first ones you find in the game, the result was that I created a mouse swordsman totally focused on speed and critical damage, wearing a white silk shirt with tight leather pants and a Jeweled Rapier!)

So to sum it all up: instead of inserting yourself into the game, let the game insert itself into you!

Here's an analogy I just thought of to describe how I play FenGames. People complaining about "player agency" reminded me of this.

It's like a Choose Your Own Adventure book on steroids (or silicone, whichever's most appropriate). Other than getting to choose how my character looks, I don't get a lot of say in what he/she says or feels. The main character isn't 100% mine but I do get to decide on courses of action to a great degree, and I get to read a ripping great story along the way.

I also get to mark my spot in the book in case I pick the wrong page to turn to. ;)

My first character was a shameless self-insert chaotic good type posted in the post quoted above, but going to branch out and experiment with other playstyles because my main is an archer/bard I guess?

My Champion was a simple traveling hunter, casual bard, and occasional bow for hire when they came through Hawkethorne. They were a loner most of the time, but did work with company as needed. Was never one to really into local issues, but he just could not sit by with Cait in trouble. Especially if there was a wee bit of coin to ask for later. They figured showing a few highwaymen the business end of his bow would be no trouble and did not expect to end up going two to two with the cult. When he came face to face with Kasyrra, it stirred something in them. Part of themwanted to submit to her while the other half wanted to send her back to where ever she came from.

In their first encounter, they weren't strong enough, and gave a piece of himself to her, and they finds themselves submitting to her more and more willingly whenever they cross paths. But like in the story they would tell, maybe they might be able to save her and undo the corruption she's unleashed on his world. He cares deeply for the companions they'vemet along the way. The initial encounter with Kas awoken his own corruption and desires to change their body to fit the chaos on the inside now.

They've adapted their body to the hunt now, shedding a part of their humanity to combat the inhuman threat. A chimerical hybrid of reptile, feline, and wyld elf. There were some...unforseen side effects. The whole growing breasts and beastial genitals have become a tolerated inconvenience along with managing the hungers of their new form, food and sexual wise. But they fear the longer they remain in this form and the longer they cross paths with Kasyrra without undoing her work, the less they're going to want to return to normal. The remnant of their humanity worries about the newer priorities since the change. Wanting to add to and expand their new form. More hips. Bigger breasts. Longer tail. Extra genitals for more efficient breeding. And they're starting to think that that's actually alright.

How I play my characters: Save the the world through the power of love (and sex)!
.......
JK, save the world by curbstomping everything that tries me unless my personal roleplaying of the character would have them be nice instead stabby (or the wiki says being nice/merciful opens content I like and being a rampaging harbinger of war locks me out of that content). And sex!

My first character was largely a self-insert, which in retrospect was a mistake. I've since made three women and one male catfolk, and it bothers me less when they end up getting raped randomly, since I don't identify as much with them. The catfolk has been turned into a sheep, my orc chick is now a kitsune, and I reluctantly gave my elf lady a dick so that I could knock up Kiyoko, hoping that I'd be able to remove it after I was finished with her. The last character has only been played once, and is a female Lupine named after one of my online podcasting heroes; she's the least satisfying to play because she's a White Mage, and thus largely redundant with Cait. These characters have let me try out all five classes - the self-insert is a Warrior, but pales in comparison to Brint. The other guy is a Charmer and is the only one who recruited both Brint and Cait; I tried to play the orc Thief completely solo, but that clearly wasn't working, so instead I took the forum's advice and got Atugia as her buddy. As the game continues to open up, I hope I'll be able to find a third companion for each character without having to just use Brint and Cait over and over. I'll also eventually want to try out other Backgrounds, but only if it doesn't get too repetitive.

Have you not done Azzyran's quest or met Quintillus yet with any of these characters?

Quintillius is in town, but he's demanding six items, two of which I've never seen. I've met Azzyran many times in the forest, but she's never offered me a quest, possibly (EDIT: because) none of my characters are capable of winning a single combat against her.

For here since your physical appearance is so malleable I dont' like to adhere to much strictness and just play it as a self insert and see how things go. I had thought about other builds or roleplay setups back when i played TiTs more but ultimately I just prefer being the nice kinda demonic paladin that is gonna try to dick the demons down for the good of the land with righteous fury and luckily the game is really supporting this idea with Kasyrra lol (even if i don't like futa itself)

The cultist charm does drop off the cultists, but if you've been in HV to begin with it's not an uncommon drop.

While I don't self-insert when I play, I do self-identify to a small degree with the PC. I generally try to be the 'Nice Guy'. Key word there, try.

Most of my games to date have started out male, usually human and usually a Charmer, as I find that class actually the best suited for combat. Kind of ironic, really. Recently, however, I've made a shemale Wyld Elf archer/warrior, with the optional 'equine anus' wyld mark. (Why? Just cuz.) I then took the Lush Orchid infused pink egg to get a vagina. After that, I headed the PC to Harvest Valley and banged the corrupted centaur to give 'myself' both an equine penis and vagina, making the PC all horse between their legs. This does have the side effect of pushing the corruption up. Not sure yet if I'm going to continue changing them into a full marefolk, or leave them as is. A lot of my other games have ended up becoming hermaphrodites, because of a certain fetish I have. (See my profile pic for a pretty good guess as to what it is.) Other than the TFs, I don't really work on fleshing out my characters too much, like giving them a back story, other than what has already been provided by the writers.
