Weighing in on the talk of "self-inserting vs not", when playing crpgs I tend to make what is essentially an Avatar character who isn't myself but acts according to my personal feelings on matters encountered (If I get around to a second playthrough of a game will make a character who is as different as possible from the first and follow a wildly different story path/alternate choices to see more content.)
I also like playing as humans in general, unless its an rpg where you make a whole party in which case I try to use as much variety as possible in character customization across the different PCs.
So my adventurer in CoCII is a Human Warrior with the backstory choice of being a former soldier that traveled up north as dictated by the game. Is on the whole a Good Man who acts to help people with his strength and wits (and so had no hesitation in aiding Cait with her sister). He's out there facing down the likes of monsters and demons because they need to be stopped before they hurt others and will resist their attempts at beguilement with heroic stubbornness.
Since this is a porn game put some thought into the whys of all the fucking that goes on- that as well as having a physical form that is more easily malleable due to encountering the Demon popping out of her portal it also increased his entirely natural desires towards having sex with (or outright impregnating) the various attractive females he encounters to greater levels leaving him with a number of lovers in the region and various offspring where before he would have been alot more restrained, but in the end not to the point its beyond his will since have often declined sex scenes that pop up in the middle of major questlines (more dramatic and important things are happening at the time which he remains focused upon) and he's not always jumping to having sex with defeated foes (especially the obviously corrupted ones).
Its not a developed character I would submit for a pnp-rpg campaign, erp or otherwise, but it works for a single player game and his continuing actions of heroism as well as at the same time having an increasingly ridiculous harem of lovers and fuckbuddies proves to be consistent.
