Agreed, especially since they don't have a quick energy regen ability like the other classes. I do like the shield strength of a tech though. With shield tweaks, a drone and a Reaper shield, plus the passive perk that gives them reduced vulnerability, they can really soak up a lot of punishment. Even better if you're topping them up with a vamp blade.

The major problem with shields is that you can't apply defence to them. You can protect your HP with armor, but not shield. And, since tech have very little HP, they are pretty much screwed once shields are breached.

Power Armor would potentially cover for all of Tech's weaknesses since they have a % bonus to Defense which PA should have up the wazoo, and it can justifiably have an energy recharging ability. Making sone ressistance accessories work with shield can also be a decent measure.

Used to love playing as Hand Solo/Smuggle Bunny but after shooting Dr. Lash to death with a SecureMP, the appeal of overwhelming firepower makes the merc very appealing.

Mercs still would get more from PA. Tech at level 10 would have 85 hp, merc 200 plus 50% from second wind - 300. 20% defence would barely make up for 235% difference in HP.

Also on the train for wanting to play a tech, but settling for merc as it's the only good class.

The current combat and class system needs to be taken out back and shot like space old yeller.

Whats your favorite class and why?

Tech, because it was my idea.

I like the concept of the Tech the most, and if it was a good class I'd be playing it near-exclusively.  The problem is it sucks, so I play Mercenaries instead.  It desperately needs a total overhaul of its design.

And yet Tech has no problem steamrolling everything in the game. Weird! :B

For someone who know the tricks. It is still the weakest class, and newbies would have a problems.

Maybe just declare it a feature? Not new concept, using different classes as difficulty modifiers, and merc-smuggler-tech seems to create a pattern.

Smuggler's my favorite, playing the dashing rogue who lives by the seat of their pants is my favorite to role play as in space. Tech specialist is a close second, though.

I actually waiting for psionics to come. Got a bit of kitsune obsession from CoC... I think, kitsune TF for TiTS was one of reasons for LD mod :)

Yeah I also *insert here keep waiting.gif* for psionics to come. I hope they will be as fun as Techs are now.

don't tempt me.  I've already accepted the Gryvain as my new favorite race of all time.  But you can't turn your back on sexy foxes with mind powers that easily.   I hope we can keep any powers modding away from the race, a la myr red venom.

I would love more Gryvains if not for that they only vcome in herm kind without male, female kind. And that sad to say dragons are slight more fav race of mine than kitsunes :/

Heheh somehow I played them form the start and also never seen problem faceroll EVERYTHING. ONly one time I wasn;t it was when Tavira palace was added but it was cuz I was facerolling without using heavly lust weapons so now with lust weapon my Tech still is like: Really that all you got? I will take a nap and you wake me up when you became a challange for me ^^

Ummm aren't it by chance you will end up designing mostly Psionics too Savin. *makes prayers to higher powers to make it happen*

Dunno. I'll certainly be involved, but I don't know if Fen wants to take the lead on that or not.

He's pernamently busy person as I noticed. I suppose if you would come to him with mostly finished sceleton for psionis class he would agree to you finish it since it would take some workload off him :D (But on the other hand iit would put more workload on you and slow down your own project...meh still flaws with this solution :/ )

It can, sure.  It still has a noticeably harder time than other classes.  It needs to stop and rest after using anything but basic attacks and isn't any stronger to make up for it; in fact, its damage output is weaker.  It can't melee worth a damn but has a melee-boosting feature anyway.  Some of its features outright do nothing.

Yes, we're making a porn game, game balance isn't a big priority.  It's still a thing that should see some consideration, because a lot of people don't like playing a class that sucks compared to other options.  Just because I can clear the game with a Tech doesn't mean it's fun to gimp myself by playing one.

I think it wouldn't be so bad if the entirely energy based class would just get a damn energy generator. A merc could take down GROUPS with normal attacks and a smuggler has synergistic properties and can choose from attacks that keep the enemy from hitting you and only needs to 'put some salt and pepper' onto the opponent before bursting them down. They both have energy gens with different effects.

The Tech has no generator, yet all his big hits are from special attacks. Specifically from disruptors, most definitely NOT from volley. Missing six times in a row with volley while Anno was being choked by the goo mother was enough for me to lose faith in the class entirely, and I had maxed stats (besides willpower) and the Nova Rifle.

The magic of ManUp.  Furfag spam it, since your hole limits your masculinity to 70%ish you don't have to worry about a beard.

I thought classes were professions, something anyone could pursue?(Natural) Psionics are really specific (and shouldn't just be a job by themselves), not that I'm unaware such talent-oriented jobs exist.... What I'm trying to say is but I want psionic abilities on my merc. :(

That said, smugglers are damn satisfying to play. Crits and all. Techs are cool in concept; and shields feel good, but otherwise they're only whelming. Mercs are easily the best class for plowing through enemies, melee or range built. Not as satisfying as smugglers but consistently feels strong. I'm playing a merc on my main so I guess that's my favorite.

If that energy generator made too overbearing it would make Techs less bitching around over spends energy. Hehe funny thought that came to me now: my PC kicking hard any of major defeated bosses yelling "You to beat your $%^%$# I spend whole 80 energy unit. %^&*&^ Gimme it back."

But pointing out that keeping class gimped despite is not less OP than others is kinda weird. Or maybe it's what will be later called as balancing aka ungimping techs ^^

I not much fond of use Furfag plus if Gryvains not commed already with 3 otpions than just one I not gonna cry. Universe is large so maybe someday some other draconian race will be added that I found more to my liking.

Heh, current edition of nine-tails perk (passive regeneration of 1 point of energy every 5 minites outside of combat) is already enough to not feel gimped, even it is only saves from spamming rest.

True but that when someone play LD not vanilla TiTS :(

Also doesn't speedy recovery perk also increasing energy regen?

Controlled breath does, 1 point every 15 minutes. Speedy recovery is a level-up perk, they are not implemented in LD. I've just noted how a thing which actually changes nothing can change how it feels.

Plus as far i remeber code effect in coc for fatigue recovery that speedy recovery had was close to combined 9-tails and controled breath effects :/

But indeed as lvl-up perk it would be hard to make it much easier accesable here unless...well PC need get VR stuff for it and you meantioned something about slight divide between both universes in your mod. Going deeper with VR theme would be a way to allow lvl-up perks be accesable (but this thread isn the one for mod so not gonna elaborate more (plus I still at same time checking that catnip TF - intersting plan with allow concentrate on specific body parts over general slowly changing all :p )

Favorite: I love the Tech, its okay in combat but ... it has trouble when the energy dies. Seriously, wheres the passive battery recharge for this class. Its knowledge about the tech around it makes me want to main it, I love it more then smuggler as a fun class but I casual with smuggler. If I had to say how it could improve, it needs to take a note from Amara and get some free energy + shield per round and some Firewalls for purchase with the drone.

Universal Fun Wise: Smuggler, effective in all combat types if you spec it right, with traits that dabble everywhere an great inventory space and decent outside combat fun. Fun to be had everywhere.

Least: Merc, It works well enough. It can still tease foes into submission but your going to take most hits to do so. it has a nice backstory commentary though. But its defenses seem limited and short, to avoid range fire or never ending bitch slap, leaving it open and stuck to its style. Its perks rarely come into effect, and a lack of outside combat fun makes it dull imo. It'll bust through armored foes without problems, and high level/massive group foes well enough.

I'd say it needs 2nd Wind every 5 turns and longer defensive effects, more fun stuff outside combat like that time with the tank.

Smuggler is great, really. Blinds/Stun chains combined with Aimed Shot and all the crits is pretty awesome imo. Story wise, I feel Smuggler has a lot of potential avenues than Merc and Tech.

Also, free health restores from resting makes things much easier...

Well, I prefer the Tech Class, but I had to pick Mercenary, due the sheer amount of brute force and the abysmal difference on HP that it grants. Dealing with enemies witouth excesive violence is nice and all, but as someone said  "there's two ways to deal with people: the way of the man, or the way of the beasts. The first one is the ideal, but for those stupid enough to not understand words, is the second."

Anyways, with Anno being a tech, and no future crew members being on mercenary catergory, as far as I know, my character has to fit that role, to keep a balanced crew: merc, cook, tech specialst, and, a....free milk source?

Reaha was in the military - if she were to get involved in combat, I imagine she'd use merc moves.

uh-huh yeah... with those fun-bags of hers they'd be considered weapons. I mean seriously aim and squirt to blind her foes. Swaying to and fro as well as just winging them around would probably knock people off balance xD

I don't think I've ever played anything but tech to be honest.

Same... I don't know why but something about it just clicks with me. Tech just seems akin to a mage class in a fantasy game setting I suppose while Merc and Smuggler seems to be the Melee and Ranger classes. Honestly I tend to play the Ranger class more often than not in most MMORPGs.

Yup that my usualy patter, while making new chara: ummm, yyy ok I will play tech again they so kawai xD

I play zer...err not this game. No seriously mages looks cool (as long it's not they starting time when anything and anyone can tip them and cause death). Techs are similar: at start they need be more carefully about fighting enemies. Mercs and smugglers is much like pressing atk button till they stop moving even at lvl 1 or 2. But when I sometimes play them I feel so...blamant normal not feeling this rush like when playing tech :( Now if only techs would no need to stop so often to recover energy it would be Perfect World xD

If you think about it really in most MMORPG's mages have a drawback... well several, one of which is they are glass cannons and are quite squishy. The main weakness of course is that mages don't recover mana points without the use of items (potions/mana recovery items). Merc's and Smugglers on the other hand and the mechanics behind them makes it seem like they use a stamina mechanic where their energy is that and it's recoverable because they are geared for it. The mechanic for all the classes actually works out pretty well. With the Tech you just have to be careful and plan out your attacks and carry energy recovery items to use during battle or after battle.

Yeah the more power engame mage have it usualy have harder time to play. Unless it's some broken cases of beoved devs class then such mages are OP broken and fans cry usualy do little to mek them nerfed.

ALso not get me wrong...it's not like I think it's flaw that techs need to plan better on energy managment and so while other two classes are much more carefree be it hp or energy. And on what it was meantioned that techs got so little hp...they don't actualy smugglers only have 1,5 more and mercs 2x more hp than tech of the same lvl. But then when we take into account shields tech can be as tanky when it come to raw amount of dmg it can soak as merc or smuggler. Plus as long shields not go offline right after fight he's as good as new with fully charged shields :D
