Why is Shade working for the Black Void?

Probably because her daughter’s father is Amara (the final boss in Kara Quest 2) who is a leader in the black void. That and she IS a bounty hunter and some bounty hunters will take any job from anybody no matter how evil they are as long as the money is good. Shade probably doesn’t fall in that category so it’s probably the former.
To be fair, Vic was all about one-night-stands, less "fucked off" than just oblivious. Couple in his rampant TF addiction plus this being ~18 years before he got his diagnosis, you make conclusions.
From the horse's mouth, BV are less a monolithic, tightly-organised group and more a loose confederation of various different shady (ho ho) interests who have umbrella'd together to further each other's own goals. Shade is affiliated with a bounty hunting arm of BV that's more ruthlessly pragmatic than out-and-out criminal.
