Why is Kiyoko called your "wife"?

While having sex with Kiyoko in the astral realm the game calls Kiyoko "your wife" or "your slutty fox-wife" despite you not being married. You don't even get that option for marriage until you free her from the realm. I don't recall any other sex scene calling someone your wife or husband while having sex with them so why is Kiyoko given different treatment?

If Memory serves me correctly, I believe once you agree to have sex with Kiyoko and to give her some of your Life Force/Energy/Whatever-you-want-to-call-it then she will automatically consider you as her Consort since she's a High-Ranking Noble close to Royalty and would not be able to justify a sexual relationship with someone below her status otherwise. Keep in mind: A Consort is the title often given to the spouse of a Noble/Royalty. I think it might also have something to do with how Kitsune Rules/Traditions in this game's universe works, though I'm not entirely sure on that since I'm not an expert on the Lore.

If that's the case then why do you get to marry her if you're already considered a "consort"? Granted, I never got that far so maybe the game will explain why but it's just confusing. It's made even more confusing when you consider the fact that the Kitsune don't regard you as one of them so your character will be below her status regardless. Maybe the game will explain later.

It is confusing. But if we were to look at it from a real-life point of view: The Kitsune you can encounter in the Frostwood (The ones you either have to have sex with or fight) are willing to have sex with anyone regardless of who they are or what their race is because they aren't anyone special themselves. But when it comes to Kiyoko, A Noble like her and an Average Joe/Outsider like the Champion having sex would cause for scrutiny and scandal should such information come to light, so Kiyoko would have to count them as her Consort to avoid this. Kiyoko also strikes me as the type who doesn't care for the traditional marriage/wedding and would be willing to forego the traditions should it benefit her. However, If the Champion asks her to marry them, then she wouldn't be opposed to it and would go along with it just to make her consort happy. Plus, She does like it when you sweet-talk her, so there's that. A bit of a Spoiler here (Sorry for that): When the Champion does ask Kiyoko to marry them, She'll pretty much laugh it off and will basically say that as far as she's concerned the two of them are already married. After a bit of what I'll call Sweet-Talking on the Champion's Part, She'll agree to the official marriage.

The wedding is almost entirely for her (and ideally your) enjoyment. Kiyoko loves you regardless, but she's stoked about having a real wedding ceremony instead of "Welp, guess this makes you my consort." Is it NECESSARY? No. But it's very fun and cute. Plus, it's a way to solidify to her that you do love her and that you're not just here because you accidentally became her consort by technicality.

Also regarding status: Kitsune are just xenophobic like that unfortunately. In a lot of places, the royal consort also doesn't hold much power without explicit backing from their reigning monarch spouse. But the Kitsune especially take great care to remind you of this. A lot.

Granted this changes a bit if you become Keros' Champion. I believe Kiyoko is the only one that officially outranks at that point, and dialogue will show others deference to you.

Pretty sure this is the correct answer here, and the thoughts going into it. It'd be interesting to have some Noble Scion background to have some alternate lines for this reason, but as it is, I think it works pretty good.

The funniest idea is that as his champion and until other wised noted it could be Keros then his wife's and then us, with the line then going from the emperor and house heads down. The comic scenario of us being third in line of importance would be funny, think of the mainland reaction and the look on their face and Keros laughing at it while we try to figure it all out.

For something more solid we are called by the title of "Your Eminence" which is used to address cardinals and archbishops in some religions, in others it still holds a very high title or marks the person as an authority in the religion. The take away is that with that title we are somewhere high up in the kerosite religion if not one step below him. Komari is the highest one I can think of that addresses us as such with Kiyoko being overridden by being our wife. We are her consort/spouse to her high nobility and her being a few steps removed from the imperial family, but independently as a champion of keros we seem to be high ranking and near the top. I swear there was text talking about this stuff but I cannot find it.

At this point, I think it's safe to assume that Keros just likes to fuck with the Champion and only offers them the chance to become Soulbound to him as his way of getting to fuck with them for the rest of their life without having to fear losing that opportunity to the Champion becoming a Demon.

I think Keros just thinks the Champion is fun to be around in general, especially if you learn the secret. Granted I don't think Keros would mess with the Champion too much, considering you don't antagonize too much the person you like to fuck, whether you knock boots with their male or female forms (or both). Plus you are favored by not only Keros, but several other of the Seven as the story goes on. Pretty sure Lumia in particular would nag Keros into oblivion if they bullied the Champion too much, considering how much see seems to adore you in your dialogue.

On the note of Keros' forms... I think it would be interesting if depending on how many times you sleep with one of Keros' forms, Keros starts preferring that form over the other in future dialogue, so if you fuck femKeros enough, Keros just becomes a she for the rest of your lifespan.

I can hear the writers and programmers who have to now add a gender variable to evey instance of Keros's pronouns crying out in despair.
