Why is Garth's family fur color so inconsistent?

The description of Garth's family is all over the place! The fur colors are not consistent at all! For example...

Here Garth is described as gray furred.

"The Frost Hound Tavern, home away from home here in the northlands. The place is small but cozy, with several tables sandwiched between a roaring hearthfire and a bar so polished that it shines. Sawdust coats the wooden floor, soaking up spilled drinks. Behind the bar are racks and racks of ales and lagers — hearty drinks for a hearty people. Garth, the grizzled, gray-furred lupine owner, stands behind the bar in his usual place, wiping off mugs or carting out drinks to his handful of patrons"

While Gwyn has dark black and white fur that the game says she inherited from Garth.

Being Garth’s daughter, she’s inherited his coloration, and as such a thick dark black overcoat of rougher, coarser hairs covers a dirty white undercoat of softer, fluffier fur.

Garret's description makes it even more contradictory.

Garret is as he's always been. You can see why he says he takes after his mother far more than he does Garth — instead of his father and sister's sleek brown-and-white fur patterning, Garret is more a greyish-black and far huskier.

Then Gwyer comes along and she's also Grey like Garth despite supposedly being different in color than him

Her fur is grey, but has been blotched to greyish-white in several places, especially about her muzzle; not that you can see most of it given how well she's wrapped up in her clothes.

Also, how tall are they? I know Gwyr is supposed to be the tallest but the game never gives measurements outside of Garret to my knowledge.

Can't answer the fur color question, but I can kind of answer on height. We have two semi-solid frames of reference: Gweyr and Garret.

Garret is described as "Monstrously tall for a lupine, almost seven feet."

Gweyr I believe you can check the exact height of during the flashback where you play as her (open the Appearance tab) but I don't have a save near that point so I can't check now. That said, while playing a max height character (which is 8 feet, or 96 inches), I recall Gweyr being described as SLIGHTLY shorter than me. Might be misremembering.

The text when she's described is "If Garth is towering, Gweyr is massive. She's got at least a full head of height over her husband..."

SO, based on these things, we can extrapolate some rough guesses.

Gweyr: ~7'10
Garth: ~7"
Garret: ~6'10
Gwyn: ~6'4?

Gwyn's the only one whose height is never really touched upon. She's probably not small, but I wouldn't count on her being a giant either.

Side note, just remembered you can open NPCs in the save editor and check their height that way, as they have stats as though they were a PC. These numbers MAY or may not be accurate, but:

Gweyr: 94 inches (7'10) ((This is probably correct since you can see her apprarance stats while playing as her))
Garret: 94 inches (7'10) ((I don't think this one is correct considering his text describes him as under 7 feet))
Gwyn: 66 inches (5'6) ((No way Gwyn has two parents in the 7 foot range and ended up 5'6 lmao, that can't be right).

Garth, strangely, does not appear in the editor. Likely because he doesn't appear in combat or sex scenes of any kind, so his stats don't matter.

It's possible that Garth's and Gweyr's fur have greyed with age, much like human hair does - though that still doesn't explain how Gwyn is described as black-overcoat-white-undercoat in her own description but brown-and-white in her brother's. The out-of-universe reason for the inconsistency is almost certainly due to either them having different writers, or their writer(s) simply forgetting what their canonical fur colour is supposed to be.

It seems like thats the case. I don't know why I'm the only one who caught this. This game had been out for how long? Being read by how many people? Pretty big oversight if you ask me. Early art of Gwyn and Garth have white and black fur. But for some reason Gwyn's other picture has brown and white fur while Garth's fur is grey when he's old and young. Even worse Gwyr has purple fur in her pictures while Garret is dark grey.

What the hell is going on here?

Usually the answer boils down to descriptions of characters and the artists' interpretation not meeting each other halfway.

Makes me wonder what goes on behind the scenes if they can't get basic character descriptions right between writers and artists. I know it can get chaotic with all the writers leaving and personal issues. Still, this should have been fixed or something.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he have an optional sex scene in the flashback with his wife?

Yes he does, but stats typically only matter for the purpose of comparing to the champion in scenes with variants. Most of them are essentially placeholders because 99% of the time they don't matter.

As for the art, it was a recurring issue with DCL and it will hopefully be fixed some day, but Moira focuses more so on new busts over redoing old ones.
