Why does changing race effect this?

Specifically, in regards to leveling up. When doing that, you can choose one of 6 attributes, and these attributes are determined by your background, class, and race. For my current, specific build, I started as a Lupine since my class and bg didn't give access to strength when leveling up. Between level 4 and 5, I used like 25 Bovum Sherries to turn my character into a Cowgirl, and then got the exp to level up. I was surprised to see that strength was greyed out, and I could not improve it, despite having been constantly leveling it through the game. Why is it that this has happened? I assume that it was caused by my pc changing their race, because that's the only possible influence on this, but like, why does it? And also, given that it seems its based on current race rather than starting race, what do the non-starter races let you access?

I don't think changing races changes anything. It's more likely that your starting class and background choices are limiting how much you can dump in a chosen stat.

How? In all my years of playing, I never experienced a situation where a stat was limited because of the background and class picked. Strength is the attribute which Lupines specialize in, and one of the three they can boost during levelups, and strength isn't part of the white mage class or hunter background, which are what my character picked. Class has not changed, background can't change, so either changing race changed what attributes can be picked, or they're some obscure mechanic I haven't noticed until now that limits stat growth for no discernible reason once you reach a certain threshold.

Your current race gives a set of three attribute affinities, yes, as does your class and background.

If the stat you want is provided by none just reassign your points at any class trainer.

I see, alright. I am aware of trainers reassigning points, I've done so for past characters/builds, I was just extremely confused by this. Is there anywhere that lists out the attribute affinities of the races? I haven't seen such in either the wiki or the forums.
(Also not a question but I find it odd that minotaurs, who've so far largely been depicted as giant hunks of muscle, don't have strength as one of the three affinities)

It happens to me literally every time, but as TObs said, you can fix that by respeccing at a trainer.
