Exactly.

Tumblr has shown it can't do anything properly, only half-assed (at best) attempts to do anything and they can't even do that.

This purge has shown people that they are more than willing to be tolerant of right-wing groups and malicious malware users than they are of the people they originally intended the site for.

Really, if Tumblr is still active as a social media site by the end of next year, I will be incredibly surprised.

I think. People get too attached to a specific domain name on the internet these days.

I think. You've completely missed the point here.

An example. A friend of mine works as a commission based artist, her livelihood is literally dependent on taking commissions that she gets from followers on Tumblr. Not a huge amount of money, but enough that she can get by month to month. When Tumblr announced their new rules, the number of inquiries she got flatlined. When Tumblr actually brought in the changes last week, her blog was one of the ones that was hidden, despite the most nsfw content she had was a photo people at the beach in swimwear. She's still waiting for them to set it back to normal. And she's had no new commissions for nearly two weeks.

Tumblr's war against nsfw content was poorly thought out, impractical to begin with, doesn't solve any of the real problems on the site (like Neo-nazis and hate speech, because apparently that's good, wholesome fun compared to a nipple!). Its also taken away one of the few safe places for the LGBT+ community. Its hurting a lot more people than its protecting.

And people have a right to be angry about that and to be deeply concerned about what might happen next.

I think artists themselves who are worried about having to move their fanbase/followers have legitimate reason to be displeased.

The extent, however, to which unrelated others have made it their current life's mission to spread half-informed rumors about whats happening and why for, geez, what must have been weeks now? And, moreover, the extent to which people seem to have decided that there's something particularly tumblr specific about this one. These dynamics, payment processors, advertisers, app store rules, automated moderation. whole internet's been dealing with them, Still, the sheer -spiteful aggression- some people get about this particular domain is, well...I don't have to tell you about it. Reminds me of when my first bittorrent site closed...

So the Tumblr porn ban has been in effect for about a week, give or take. And only like 2 people out of the almost 1200 that I follow have been nuked. And one of them pressed the big red button themselves!

Literally the only thing that seems to have changed are them putting warnings on and hiding flagged blogs, as well as pixiliating the profile images.

So I think it's safe to say that tumblr is not only one of the most impotent sites out there, but also one of the most incompetent sites, as well.

Meanwhile, Newgrounds is kicking back and enjoying the flood of new users, and being based as fuck about it on twitter.

People with pixelated profiles are the banned/hidden profiles. Tumblr put out a new announcement saying they weren't going to outright ban pepple but just hide their accounts. You can clean up your account and repeal it, but it takes a long while to respond.

And with the pixelated profiles, you can't see their Tumblr, their posts or anything (I think if they write a comment in a reblog you can see it in the notes. That's it.). That's how they're getting around the banning furore.

Well, it doesnt work on mobile. I can still see all of the porn on there just fine.

Again, incompetent.

Wait, no, shit. I spoke too soon.

Yeah, some people got hit pretty hard. But some others seem to have gotten away scot-free.

Either way, it still proves my point.

The pornbots are still kicking. Worse, they're taking over perfectly sfw blogs.
So yeah. This ban has been and continues to be a fucking disaster.

I can't believe Tumblr itself houses these content creators and if it finally crumbs to dust they to well succumb, with no where left to go.

Oh wait. No most of them flipped fully to twitter.

And Pillowfort.io, and Mastodon, Waterfall social, instagram, and a few nsfw artists even created Pornhub accounts, I think
Tumblr dumb

I'd agree with you if it weren't for the fact that I'd lose like 1000 awesome porn artists forever if that did actually happen.
Yeah it sucks, but they pretty much gave them the middle-finger anyways so... x.x

Fuck me, I just lost 9 more people!

Ok, this is bad. I'm praying that they are just deleting their own accounts. And that they are all people I'm already also following on either twitter or furaffinity.

So out of curiosity, I'd ask a friend how she's doing after the Tumblr ban and was not surprised to find out that she had deleted her account and moved her art to Twitter.

What did surprise me was that it wasn't the ban that got her to leave (she ran a SFW art blog), it was the fact that her numbers tanked. Because I helped her set up the analytics for her blog, I had a quick check and in the last six months she went from 1500 views a week in November to 100 a week in March.

So this got me wondering and I checked out Tumblr's analytics on Similarweb.com. Tumblr went from 560 million monthly hits in November to a low of 369 million in February. A loss of nearly 200 million monthly hits. Compare that with the high of 672 million monthly hits in July of last year, its pretty clear that Tumblr isn't going to recover as well as they would have hoped, along with the possibility of Verizon wondering if they had bought a lame horse.

Verizon: Buys site renowned for porn, removes all the porn

Site: Fucking tanks

Verizon: "There was nothing we could do, dude! It just died out of nowhere!"

The funny thing is that this is pretty much what some of us predicted would happen when the news broke about Tumblr in December. We knew that there would be a massive drop. That was 65% of what they had in November and nearly half of the numbers they had in July.

and they can't make money off Tumblr as a porn site without major changes to their core business models.
