The Witcher 3

Anyone here fans of the Witcher? I never played the first two, but this game was so beautiful I couldn't not play it, so I dove in head first and felt like I was rewarded greatly for it. 


The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, and even though I missed the first two games they do a great job of immersing you in this world without making you feel like you're the only one the room that doesn't know what's going on. 


Great, diverse quests and jobs. Awesome voice acting, I could go on and on.


The important question though; Triss or Yen?

Never thought i'd see another Witcher fan in these forums. It truly is one of if not my favorite open world rpg. The expansive world and plentiful quests and side missions have made completing the game's actual story damn near impossible for me. 


Answer to the important question: Triss. Yen is such a bitch and always has her head up her ass. Plus now having read quite a bit about the game's history i found out Yennefer used magic to gain her beauty, and i for one hate when a woman uses artificial means like make up, body modifications, and magic to make her self look better. 


Besides I think Triss' ending is an life i could see myself living.

I have liked the Witcher universe since the third one came out, its made me retroactively play the prequels and seek out the novels as well. Second to none, It's easily one of the best fantasy-world games I've ever played next to Dragon Age.


Personally, I can never choose between the two, my Geralt has always been kind of a slut. Both are powerful, confident, smart; the only difference is Triss has a more softer and sarcastic personality while Yen is more pragmatic and ruthless. I wish Geralt could've had both, but then it would've turned into some kind of harem anime and he truly would've been a mary-sue then I'd have to hate him because those types of characters are garbage and can go die in a grease fire.

Hahaha yeah you can't have your cake and eat it too unfortunately. The first time I chose Triss because I powered through her storyline and didn't realize I was already at the moment when you have to choose her or not. 


 I felt really awful just straight up telling Yen "I don't feel a thing" and she loses her shit. Which is admittedly kinda hot. 


 So on my second file I plan on being a pal to Triss but I'll choose Yen just to see how things will change. 


Myra I do agree though Yen is a huuuuuge bitch for so much of the game.

Genuine bar-raiser of a game, innit. Completely busted a lot of conceptions about what is and isn't possible in a Western RPG. Every similar effort will be judged by it for a long time to come.


And it's all about Keira Metz.

Played through the game twice, absolutely loved it both times. The combat is deep and rewarding. The music is fantastic. And the story and characters are top notch. It absolutely deserved to win game of the year last year. 


As for the Triss/Yen question, I went Yen both times. The first time was because I will always pick dark hair over red heads and I have always liked the whole getting past the bitchy exterior thing in games (like Morrigan in Dragon Age Origins). The second time I actually was planning on going Triss, but I started reading the books and learning more about the world before I started. This let me know that Geralt and Yen have been a thing for around 20 years and their relationship has always been like this. The only times there ever was a Triss and Geralt was one time when Triss took advantage of a depressed Geralt after a recent fight with Yen and during the first two games when Geralt had amnesia. Triss has always had the hots for Geralt but Geralt has never really returned those feelings. He only loved Yen. Thus I feel like choosing Yen makes more sense and results in a better story.

Triss is considered very young by those standards so she really doesn't have to use much of it. Although she probably does use it to cover up some burn scars she got because we never see them in the games.

As do I and will remain adamant in my decision. Just prefer not having a bitch who wants you around when she feels like it be my lover in the end. I don't feel I have to look past a quality that's not in my personal preference, I don't settle for what is. I don't see why she has to be that way but as someone who hasn't played the first two and has only read about them from information Triss came on as a better decision immediately in complete contrast to that 1maybe 2 scenes where it actually looks like yennefer cares about Geralt other that a tool for sex with no consequences.

The things is, the fact that Geralt got amnesia and spent the best part of the first two games rebuilding his identity allows the player to imprint themselves upon him, and not feel beholden to the personality he had and the choices he made in the books. Witcher 1 and 2 go out of their way to push you into scenarios where "old" Geralt would certainly act a particular way, but you are perfectly free to do differently. My reading of Geralt was that, changed by his experiences and near escape from death, he had grown out of the endless banter he used to enjoy with Yennifer and had found greater peace with the kinder and more honest Triss. To my mind, this makes for a better story; people who are really into the books obviously beg to differ.


This is a great example of amnesia being used well as a trope. Whilst still an incredibly hackneyed way of restarting an already established character, in the Witcher games it is also used to explore whether and by what measure the nature of a man can be changed, and following through on your answer to that.
