"Corveera, high priestess of Hedone," said the guard that took her equipment, before heading inside. Nuru had heard of Hedone, the goddess of pleasure and earthly delight, a decent enough religion, if you didn't mind people constantly badgering you for physical pleasure.
As she stepped through the large doorway, the temple did not disappoint, and she was greeted by one of the most ostentatious displays of decadence she had ever seen. The entire first floor of the tower was a giant lounge. Piles of pillows, and well stuffed couches, spread outward from a central fountain depicting the well endowed goddess that the temple was dedicated to. Everywhere Nuru looked, men and women luxuriated as they ate, drank, and pawed at each other in an intoxicated haze.
It was warm in the temple, and most of the residents wore little to no clothing. In addition to the heat, the scent of exotic incense and sex hung thickly in the air. As she walked, the people that noticed her called out with offers of food, strange substances, and the promise of pleasurable company. It was almost overwhelming... until Nuru spotted the leader of this cult.
At the far side of the room, opposite the one she had entered from, was a raised dais perhaps a dozen feet higher than the rest of the floor. Atop this platform, on a mountain of cushions and pillows, reclined a woman of stunning beauty. Her bronze skin, and raven hair were obscured by only a sheer green silk robe and veil. Gold and jewels hung from necklaces, and bracelets, and all manner of piercings adorned her body. But, it was her eyes that caught Nuru's attention. They were the eyes of a snake; gold and slitted.
The guards stopped Nuru at the bottom of the stairs that lead up the dais where their leader relaxed, and she smiled down at Nuru. "Ah, what do we have here?" she said in a voice like silk. "Another wayward soul seeking the comforts of Hedone?"
