Draga has always shown a good level of wanting to engage and expand the games under development so I wouldn't be surprised if something gets added to support it, if not immediately, probably at some point since there is a perceived audience to be had for it.

Not many hardcore VN devs use Twine these days, it's mostly for text oriented CYOA devs so I'm a little surprised that it hasn't popped up before now, but considering the semi-graphical nature of Suddenly a Girl, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

I trust Draga to make good decisions, the games created show a high level of detail and care. So, if it can't be added there is likely a very good reason. My suggestions are just from my limited knowledge of Twine and Screen Readers (which I use to 'listen' to text novels while I do other things, not much bearing here but I have tested a few out.) I've actually used Twine to build user manuals and now that I think about it, that would be a way to get an interactive manual into the hands of visually impaired folks. I'll have to keep this in mind.

I wasn't aware the game was semi graphical.
Mostly the stuff made with twine I've tried has largely worked, and where it hasn't, it's usually because the interface has been heavily customised and doesn't look like a standard webpage.

In this case, I was confused as to what was going on, since the text of the map does read fine, it's just that clicking it didn't seem to work, which was rather strange.
Obviously I picked up that the pc's appearance is displayed graphically, but while it would be nice to know in text what you're wearing (as in something like degrees of lewdity), it's not hard to mmm, know the thing you've just clicked on, and there is some text in the wardrobe reading:
"I can't go out like that." which tells you if you've just put an outfit on or taken it off.

Can't speak for anything else in the game since I couldn't leave the house, but that far at least, everything accept the map seemed to work fine.

As for an audience, I can't speak specifically about people interested in games with a feminine transformation theme, since obviously interest in sexual content is just as individualistic for blind people as for sighted people.

From a gaming perspective though, I can say there are a large number of blind/vi rpg fans, many of whom have no problem playing erotic rpgs, indeed that was where I heard about corruption of champions in the first place.

All that being said, I'm well aware indi game development relies on limited time and resources, and often if a game has been built with inaccessible architecture, it can take a massive amount of trouble to get it to cooperate with screen reading programs.

I wouldn't have mentioned accessibility if I thought it'd take rebuilding the game from the ground up, but equally I'm not the one who coded the game, and for very obvious reasons, I literally can't see what precisely the problem is :D.

So as I said, access fixes to both suddenly a girl and the rpg would indeed be great, but if not, no hard feelings.

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply, but I also have other projects I work on so I don't always check the related threads unless I get back to work on it.

But I read all of your posts and I will try to do my best to make it playable for visually impaired people as well. I think the easiest solution would be to add a toggle to the left side bar that changes the map to a text based menu. Or maybe at the start of the game, where you can toggle a visually impaired user mode, so things will be arranged to work better for them. And now that I think about it, are you aware that there is a toggle for a right sidebar as well, where you can use a phone? If not, I will have to think up a way to make this one more obvious as well.

And while its true that the game is semi graphical you won't miss anything because the graphics are only there to enhance the scene and not to replace them, everything that happens is usually written out.

Hi.

Thanks for getting back to me on this one.
A text map sounds like a great idea, as I said most everything else in the game (including the sidebar for using the phone), seemed to work fine.

The only other thing which might be nice is some textual notes in the wardrobe of what you're wearing, since as I remember there wasn't a way of telling precisely, though obviously you could make a guess by what clothes you clicked on.

Other than that, everything as you said was textual so should be fine.

thanks for looking into the fixes.

If you ever fancy some more hands on experience with a screen reader feel free to try NVDa; None visual desktop access, the open source screen reader found here.

It's what the majority of blind computer users actually use on Windows these days.

I've not tried your other rpg game, but since rpgs generally (erotic or otherwise), tend to be popular in the visually impared gaming community (there are lots of corruption of champions and Flexible survival fans), you might also consider similar fixes for that one at some point in the future too.

Thanks again.

Hi.

Thanks for the changes.
I tried the game and it was absolutely fine, the new text map is great and I was able to get around with no trouble, even as far as seeing the bad end! Yes I'll admit I had morbid curiosity about what happened if you didn't pay your rent, and it was indeed suitably appalling :D.

The only miner issue I had was getting into the gym, since with no ability to check what clothes I was wearing, I wasn't' exactly sure which clothes were not sport, EG I did wonder if you could go in barefoot, or if you also needed the running shoes, but once I purchased a top, bottoms and shoes all marked as sport it worked fine!

Great job on the accessibility.

I'll look forward to exploring the rest of the game, maybe leading the poor pc to a slightly less grim end, and giving your other rpg a go as well.

Hey everyone,

Suddenly a Girl v0.12 is now out for public and can be downloaded from the usual place on my blog.

Have fun~

I've found a few bugs in the latest version. While I'm sure the Patreon folks have already pointed them out, I'll add them here just in case.

There's a logic bug in the bath randomization sequence that creates a 'black screen' when the option for a bath is chosen. It takes some effort to get around and it's likely due to some kind of relationship point. I also got Hiromi events there when Hiromi is not involved with the MC romantically in any way. Something strange is happening in that logic sequence. I couldn't figure it out but there's some pretty deep logic work going on there.

If you play the MC fairly tame and DON'T engage Hiro in any way, DON'T try to find schematics (which is odd the option is there if you haven't engaged Hiro), you can still invite Hiro to the party and still get him changed, even though he doesn't know anything about the MC's change yet. The whole party line for Hiro should be dead at that point... one would think anyway, and if the MC is doing this solo, then that should also generate some serious challenges/consequences.

While working at the 'office', you can't stop Hiromi from being corrupted even if you start intervening before 40%. I don't know if you SHOULD be able to stop it but you don't get the warning to intervene until nearly 50% and it's impossible to stop even before you get the warning. Either the warning needs to happen sooner or the mechanism to stop it needs to be more effective.

That's all I have actual details on at this point, but there's a few more oddities I've run across that I haven't tried to hunt down yet.

Thanks for the bug reports, I will get them fixed.

When I started working on this game I wanted to make a sandbox-like life sim with an interesting story and interesting characters that also influence each other. Because up until now, every life sim I played was very generic and only had linear stories. Now here comes the problem though, if you do certain things out of order or don't meet any NPC's at all, then certain things won't make any sense anymore. But there are already so many paths that it would take me months to correct everything for every possible combination and all you would get are restrictions or slight text changes because I don't want to add additional paths at this point and just get the game finished since I'm pretty close to it now. But if there's one good thing out of it, it convinced me to never work on a sandbox game again because a good story and interesting characters are more important to me than "an open world".

I'm not sure what warning you mean exactly but once you get the first event with Hiromi at the office you can talk with her at lunchbreak and she will tell you that you shouldn't do anything. After that you can keep visiting Hiromi and check on her and try to intervene to reduce the corruption by 1%, if you do nothing it will increase by 2% instead. The goal is to finish the main story before Hiromi gets fully corrupted, but since the main story isn't finished yet, that isn't possible.

Hey everyone,

It's finally done, the game is now complete! While I initially had much more planned for the game, I'm still happy how it turned out and I hope you like it as well.

V1.0 is now out for all of my Beta testers and above and will be available for public on the 25th of August.

New Content:
-After finishing all of the documents in the office you can now start the final main quest
-Added Jeff's ending into the game (with a few new events, new dialogues and other text changes at the free roam part of the ending)
-Added 5 girl path endings into the game (all with different variants and new events at the free roam part)
-Added 1 male path ending into the game (has different variants as well but no free roam)
-Added a new scene between Darnell and the MC at the last main quest, if you get caught
-Added two new scenes between Ms. Santons and the MC at the last main quest, different scene depending on if you are dom or sub

Updated Content:
-Fixed several bugs occuring while you visit the bath at home
-More minor changes and bugfixes

So does that mean there won't be anymore updates for this game? Well, I will still release updates to fix bugs, change minor things or even add a few more events here and there but other than that, don't expect anymore big updates for the game. I do want to move on to my next project. So if you find any issues, let me know!

Have a great day!

You're completely correct, a good story is far better than open world. What is interesting is just how good you were able to do open world in an engine like Twine. I've seen other games done in Twine like this but this one is pretty complex so I'm not surprised you've had enough. Oddly, hard code (C++, Python, etc.) actually works a little easier than an engine in this case because you can build up the tools to make it work how it looks in your head. I see a bit more open world stuff done in Ren'Py.

On the side of open world, it can be done very well but it's really hard unless it's simple OR something that is an utter labor of love that you dive into and open each area as if a piece of your soul is in there. If not, you'll run smack into what you're feeling.

Thank you for the work you've done, it's a fun game and while I'm sorry to see it come to an end, it has to if you are moving on. Congratulations on reaching the end, it's a great accomplishment.
