He raises an eyebrow and does just that, dropping to his belly on the ground once more, making sure to stay next to Hina.
Her right hand slowly pulls a hatchet from her belt as she hums. She holds it up in a ready position before her gray eyes snap open and she turns around in a flash, hurling her axe through the air where it goes into a bush and is followed by a wet thunk and a low gurgle. Another infected falls through the bush with an axe in his skull. It has orange skin, long skinny limbs and a hunched over body. Snaggly teeth point in all directions from its mouth and it snaps at her once before falling down dead

My guess is, the virus must have mutated into many different strains, not all of which are lethal?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.
"That is what we have put together over the years. It started as billions of different strands of a base retrovirus. Then as each virus settled in, it changed its host and itself to make a new being. So here we are now, nearly a hundred years later and nothing is the same. While the infection is still contagious, it doesn't just bounce around and kill aimlessly."
