@Lord Arioch according to your patreon page, after the prologue is over, the game will shift somewhat from pure VN to an RPG with VN character interactions, if I understood it correctly.  What kind of gameplay are you considering, and will the RPG elements allow for different playstyles?  I know that Rowan is a swordsman; is that going to be the primary/only way to develop him?

yeah that does make you think. If I had to guess are we talking like a traditional RPG game or some other form of RPG. Also since I haven't checked the prologue out yet is there going to be any sort of combat mechanic? from what I can see from other people and Karunama's recent post with the game shifting from an VN over to RPG. Sounds a lot like one of those JRPG VN hybrids like Brave Soul or one of the Rance series games which is exactly what they are, though Rance series games are more of RPG, TBS and VN all combined into one, though the only Rance game I played was Sengoku which pretty much is during the warring states era of Japan where a lot of the famous Japanese Samurai are female characters.

It's actually fairly common in JRPGs to have a visual novel story system mixed with other mechanics.  Especially the porny things that have actual games tied to them as well.  Kamidory Alchemy Meister and Yumina are good examples of this.

EDIT: Visual novel database links.

Quick rundown of gameplay:

- Exploration is similar to CoC; there are six realms the player can visit, each with their own random events, locations, etc. Main difference is there is no combat, encounters will be more choice based.
- Events give xp, which allows you to level up and choose which stat you want to level. Stats aren't just numbers for formulas, they govern abilities in various real life situations. While, as mentioned, Rowan is a swordsman, you can still make, for example, a high intelligence Rowan who would be able to learn some spells, but also outsmart others, solve difficult puzzles, understand other languages, etc. But on the other side, if as a result he had low strength, he wouldn't be able to overpower others, lift heavy things, break down locked doors, etc.
- The castle also has very basic management sim elements. You'll have to decide how many of your people you want to be workers, and how many soldiers, while making sure you have enough food for everyone, and keeping morale high.
- Towns will be a map with visitable locations (like Persona, if you have played that series), pubs, houses, shops, etc. which will have random and triggered events. You'll be able to meet important characters, get quests, listen for rumours in the tavern, all those sorts of thing.

There's a lot more planned, but this should give you some idea of the main gameplay triad: Exploration/Castle/Town.

Sorry to sound impatient but I'm looking forward to some great futa content given how the quality of the plot, character interaction and art.

Are we going to see any futaxfem content soon? Perhaps the wife has been undergoing 'training' over the months it took him to travel...

In the process of adding a futa character now, but with funding being low, might be a while before she gets a scene I'm afraid. Have to pay for map and all the new sprites / backgrounds for the castle, so that'll tie up what little money there is for a while.

Here's a sneak peak of the character though.

Since you're adding futas, is there a chance we'll see a male variationof it too?

who knows? really though if LA is going to add futa characters that opens up the path/choice for the main character to be futa as well. I know that if the game gets successful (more people helping fund it's development) that there's a chance that there will be a female version of the MC.

At this point, I'd call that wishful thinking.  He did just say that funds are low, so....

@MM Not averse to the idea - would be easy enough for the player to meet one in town, maybe acquire one as a "speciality" for the brothel, etc. Plenty of opportunities anyway, but like most things at the moment probably won't be in for a while.

Here is the penultimate prologue version. Backers get the end of the prologue this weekend, public will get it in two weeks.

You can also now see the finished, colour castle map on the Patreon here.

P.S. S Bomb's new Patreon is already making twice mine, FML, I give up (not really lol).

I'll be honest, I've been holding off on the prologue updates even though I'm a backer because I wanted to have a nice chunk of content to see. That and I'm patient enough to wait for the finished prologue. I can't wait to see it in all its glory. It's actually well written and illustrated so far.

Well, I put the small releases out to prove I'm not just sat here twiddling my thumbs, but I appreciate some people would rather wait and play a bigger chunk. :)

I know I only mentioned the visual aspects but the sounds also play a big part in the experience too. The sounds of clashing weapons really add a punch to the written text when they come side by side for instance.

Yeah, I think sound adds a lot. Just trying to sort out some moans for the adult scenes at the moment. :)

Nifty.  I assume the non interactive areas on the map aren't ready yet?

They have to be unlocked as the game progresses (to avoid option overwhelm at the beginning). :)

I'm really loving the progress so far. I'm gonna wait on playing the game till at least part-way into Chapter 1. But I'll continue checking in for updates!

Oh, okay.  That's understandable.  Btw, out of curiosity, between dating sim, VN and RPG, roughly where would you place SoC?  Based on how you envision the end product, I mean.  It's obviously a hybrid, I'm just curious about the ratio, and how you envision the player approaching the game.  Do we try to beat the game like we would in an RPG, find the most interesting path like in a VN, or doggedly pursue a relationship with the best looking/most interesting character?  A mix of the three, perhaps?

@MysteryMouse I have to ask; why is your ava a dog instead of a mouse?  It's a mystery to me.  (see what I did there? :p )

Definitely a mix of all three. Despite being more like a VN to this point, I'd describe it more as foremost an RPG, with VN and relationship sim elements.

Releasing this a little early since I have a lot to do this weekend. Here is the latest version that takes you right up to the end of the prologue. It has two new sex scenes (one FxM and MxM, both clearly signposted and avoidable), each consisting of three cgs.

Next release will be in a few weeks and will feature the post-prologue gameplay.

Just finished playing through this and I really liked the MxM scene.  I'm a sucker for dominance as a fetish though... alright, so that's also a literal statement.  So sue me, lol.  Back on point, I will say that Andras looked somewhat different to me in the CGs than he does on his portrait, especially in the second one, but it didn't glare out at me or keep me from enjoying the scene at all.  I am loathe to say so (because I'm cheap asf), but I think this is clearly worth backing, just based on the VN parts and the new scene.  If the post prologue gameplay is decent, I think you'll have a winner.

Out of curiosity, In the future, will there be a roughly equivalent amount of MxM content as FxM?

Glad you enjoyed it, was a bit nervous about it being straight, but a number of the gay players have told me that liked it,  so I'm quite happy with that.

Will be more women overall (because that is the way the market leans), but there'll still be a decent amount of gay content. For example, Keidi is working on five new NPCs for the castle, and two of those are males you'll be able to fuck (a minotaur and a twink-ish dark elf).

Haven't played it yet, downloading it now but I'm wondering. For those of us who aren't into MxM; is it skippable or do we just have to keep clicking through it? I'm asking because I know one of the selling points of your game is changes made based on choices.
