I looked on the wiki, and the final upgrade costs 512k, is that the amount you need to have on you for that upgrade? How exactly that works? And once all upgrades are done, does the option greys out?

You can donate to Gwyn between 100, 1000 or 10000 EC at a time, and the 512k is the max total amount you need to donate for all the upgrades.
Personally no idea if the option to donate greys out or not - they might even somehow come up with more expansion ideas.
