Is there a way to change your gender/sex displayed in the combat screen?

Unfortunately not :(

AFAIK the "sex" displayed in the combat interface is entirely based on the character's genital configuration. So unless you're down to modify what's in your Steele's pants, you can't change it at all.

If I'm remembering correctly, early on in the game's development, there was a need to know the genital setup for the enemy you were facing so you can decide if you wanted to sex them after combat. It was this way in the Flash version and carried over to the JavaScript version, when the UI was updated to support a more detailed layout. Keeping the UI symmetrical, that stat also became visible for the player character as well.

Over time, there have been complaints about the solo combat display misgendering the characters, both the player and non-player characters, but we'd have to clarify that the Sex stat is actually referencing the genital configuration and not the gender alignments. Of course the confusion is understandable since they both use the same words to describe different things. Early on, gender and sex did get conflated pretty casually, but now, as the game started getting more complex with what it was distinguishing, the meaning of the two started to become more specifically directed (thus the gender preference settings). Just know that if "Sex" is referenced, it usually means the physical sexual organ setup, whereas "Gender" would be for the presentation and pronouns.

To address this, I've added two options for the next release that should allow you to overwrite the "Sex" stat with the "Gender" stat for the solo combat displays--one for the player character and one for NPCs. Hopefully this helps if you have a preference of one over the other.
