Because they're jaded as fuck.
You put such a negative light on it...but yes, in a way.
Anyone whose experience involves being commissioned simply has dealt with enough people of this mindset to get their grumble on. Some are merely naive and don't bother thinking, and some know all too well what they're doing.
All too often you encounter those who feel entitled to extra work, or feel they can pay you in exposure bucks, or make that stupid fucking joke about how they shouldn't have to pay you because you're a freelancer and not a "paidlancer", with no knowledge of where that term actually originates.
You wouldn't pay a doctor to look at that weird wart, and then expect them to fix everything else for free, would you? You wouldn't go to A&W and ask for a free burger in exchange for telling your friends the food is good if they ask you. You wouldn't even consider it.
Yet the art industry deals with this
all the fucking time.
Multiple people answered TC. Not overly kindly, not overly unkindly. But the result is as expected. Either indigence or a victim complex.
Edit: Err...yeah... Just read Noob's edit and I did perhaps come off a bit too harshly. But I stand by what I said. Idol curiosity or not, it could have been remedied with 5 minutes of thinking about it. This is not something you should need to be informed of. It should be obvious... However, there is a chance TC is 18+ while still being in school, in which case my bad.
