Harvest valley / Across river campsites disappearing?

When I go further South and cross the river I will put a campsite in one of the squares on the other side.

It will stay there as long as I am playing. But when I reload from a save and go back down there and cross the river, the campsite will be gone.

Is this a bug or a feature? Like is it supposed to go away or is this some error in the game's mechanics?
