Combat Flow Improvement Suggestion

Just this.

I had uploaded this image originally in the "gripes"-thread, - I think - but I felt like I cared enough to suggest this improvement, as to give it its own thread, instead of having it just sit in one of the "shouting into the void"-threads.

This improvement would make it so, that players would always able to see right away, during each turn, which of their powers are off cooldown. It also significantly speeds up combat by demanding one less button click per turn.

Feedback is welcome!

I fw this actually. Maybe the spot that's currently Powers could be slot for a single selectable item from your inventory, letting you use it quickly without going into the Inventory menu. Good place to put (small) Lyric, Remedies, Winterstem, Leananstone, etc.

I can't remember for the life of me if any of the unique encounters in the game required the player to choose special actions or not.

If they did, then the flex spot could lead to those during these encounters. It could very well lead to another combat tab like it does now, but would thankfully never force players again to do so over and over again.

Well, it's nearly impossible to win Gweyr's fight against whatshisface in the flashback without using the Winterstems in her inventory... but I don't think that counts. The only other fights with unique mechanics (Matiha 2 and Nina's Dream thingy) that come to mind off the top my head require certain strategies, but otherwise don't really need you to use special actions much. Wait, doesn't the Viktor fight have a special button if you get all 5 Shards?

I don't think any of the encounters have special actions, no.

If you get all 5 Shards, for the duration of the fight you get an extra special Wraith-Murdering Sword and your Ultimate gets replaced with a power that takes the fight from "Fancy Cinematic" to "Beating Kasyrra is easier than Losing this fight." But there's no special button at any point.

I think the biggest issue with the change is that it might make the UI feel a little cluttered, but it would certainly be convenient.

New players would be able to somewhat grow into my suggested combat UI change since new characters don't have the full amount of skills yet. Veteran players should be familiar enough with the combat system to get used to it as well - quickly enough, I would hope!

You're still making a good point, as that could very well be the case for some that don't engage a lot with the game's combat systems. The game's general design
doesn't seem to shy away from cluttered things though, considering how packed full of NPCs the wayfort has become.
