CoC2 running in background?

I got CoC2 as a birthday present recently and when I press play on the game it opens itself, opens a window, and then closes it and turns itself into a background process. If I didn't already know better I would think it's a bitcoin miner but it's clearly not and Iway confused.
As I said in the title I'm running a 64 bit OS so the FAQ hasn't helped. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game like 3 times over, swapping which drive its on each time, and It's not worked.
I'm stumped, any ideas?

Double posting isn't good form and isn't going to help you get a response...

Anyhow, I'm not sure why 'I'm running a 64 bit OS' is relevant because the game doesn't run on anything else. There should be no issues loading the game up through Steam; I have it going right now. A quick check showed that someone had issues loading the game from Steam shortly after a public patch but it resolved itself. Make sure there are no updates you haven't done, assuming you don't have it set to auto-update.

Windows? Linux?

We THINK there might be a weird issue with Linux but that may be more down to Steam just generally being weird right now on Linux, like Steam itself doesn't work out of the box on Ubuntu properly at all from what I've read and tested personally.

The Double post was mostly an accident, I posted this and tried to delete the last one but was unable. It is on auto-update and I've double checked for updates, no cigar.

Running it on windows. Attached below is a screen shot of it running as a background process as well as a link to a video of the problem from launch to close.

If you've tried validating and no dice, you could try running the executable from the command line and there'll be at least some logging output that might point to a specific error. I'll need to talk to Drake about putting some more meaningful logging in if this doesn't help.

Out of interest, does the public download version available from the site work fine?

So the executable from the website opens and runs 100% correct so yippee on that, however when going through command line I was unable to even navigate to the Corruption of Champions II file folder.
Sending in another screen cap to show whats up.

Could you restart Steam and then try playing the game now? The update introduced a new dependency that most people would have on their system already (which is why we didn't catch it in testing), but if you didn't you'd get the crash. We've now tagged the dependency so it should install itself if needed when you try launching the game.
