Tl;dr: Pokémon porn parody game made with Ren'py and 3D CGs for the porn scenes. Heavily focused on bestiality.


Concept: Leaf on Fire is a Pokémon parody game following Leaf as she embarks on the journey to become the greatest trainer the world has ever seen. On the way she will face weird situations and will have to give all the love her little creatures deserve, so they can grow strong and healthy.

Genre: The gameplay is mostly Visual Novel style with RPG elements, like leveling, combat with moves, items, resistances and weaknesses, etc. The game is also pretty open, allowing the player to go anywhere they want, except for a few progression related roadblocks. Done mostly with Ren'Py and Daz3D.

Features:
Currently in the game:
  • Capture system: The player can capture Punkmon during battle, expanding their roster
  • Party management: The player access his party to see info and change positions and switch Punkmon between party and storage.
  • Combat system: Turn based combat with multiple stats, type effectiveness, movesets, etc.
  • Inventory system: The player can have items with multiple effects to be used during battle or out of it.
  • Love system: As the player's Punkmon grow they become closer to their trainer and unlock new scenes.

  • Breeding mechanics

Adult Content:
The game contains explicit sexual content and extreme fetishes. The main focus is Human/Pokemon scenes (beastiality, no furry/pokemorph) but a lot of Human/Human content is also be available. All scenes are 3D rendered with Daz3D.

This does look interesting. I'm not usually a big fan of 3d models, they usually seem faker than 2d art (People try way to hard to make things seductive, and it just throws the entire thing off.) I'm not seeing the warning signs of that happening in your screenshots, so, that's a good thing at least. Can't be worse than some other examples of 3d model usage that will go unnamed. The idea does interest me though, no one really does pokemon hentai games cause.... that's, what 700+ pokemon now? Even just the original 151, getting even just one scene for all of those is insane, let alone multiple, as your change-logs seem to suggest you're doing. Tell me, about how much actual content do you have in the game, as compared to what you would view as a "end point". That is, how much do you plan to have in the game, vs how much is in the game. Is this a solo project, or do you have help? How much flexibility will the player have in their party, and will they be able to grind their pokemon's strength, or capture multiple of the same pokemon, as they can in the actual game?

It should be noted I haven't actually played it as of writing this, I'm asking purely out of curiosity, so if one or more of those questions is answered in gameplay, you have my apologies for asking it. And of course, thank you for your time.

Third, Tying the "love" system to the amount of times a pokemon levels up is probably a mistake in the long run. It works for now, But I would try to, perhaps, emulate the formula used in the actual games that determines pokemon-player affection. This next bit is kinda me nit-picking, but referencing moves in the H-scenes is also probably not the best move, given that they technically can only learn four moves, and spearows don't learn pursuit by level 9, along with other inconsistencies.

In terms of project scope, I plan on following the entire pokemon FireRed storyline, along with the 151 1st gen. It's certainly gonna be a big project and I'm going solo. That being said, I've been able to put out a considerable amount of work even though I have to work on other stuff to pay the bills. My hope is to get enough support on Patreon so I can go full time. Also, I can start third-partying some stuff like the 3d modeling of buildings in the future.

My plan on the game mechanics is to be very close to the original work. Ivs, Evs, Type effectiveness will all be present. I came to realize most of this stuff are much simpler to implement than I thought. About being able to see stats, along with other info, it's actually already done and will be included in the next version.

About the love system, you're totally right. My intention was to use the original affection formula, but I thought it would need too much grind, since the game doesn't have much content yet, so I plan on making it harder than just one level per scene as the development progresses. About the moves, I'll fit it with the according levels, I just made it easier for now for the same reason.

Thanks for the all the feedback, it's great. The problem report is always appreciated too.

Even if you fit in the moves with the according levels though, they might just forget a move, or choose to not learn it at all, if you're going for original mechanics. Which means that some scenes might be permanently locked away to some players, or wouldn't make sense because "Wait, why can this do that here but not there?". A player may opt to forget a move with a scene, and get one without a scene without realizing it, and then have to live with their unknowingly bad choice (Or revert a save, which is a pain in the ass to do cause you gotta go and regrind.)

Also, while trying to take this on solo is admiriable, and probably required, given your funds, you really should try to get the help of another person, and for more than just some 3d building models. You have 151 pokemon that all need models, stats, and movesets, as well as easily 5 or 6 times as many sex scenes to make, if you plan on keeping the current trend, along with a story to write. You will need another person to aid you if you expect it done within any reasonable amount of time, just because of the sheer workload.

I don't mean to dissuade you now, just stating some harsh truths. Personally, I would love to see this game come to full fruition, and wish you all the best with it.

Ok, I see what you mean about the moves, that can be a problem. I'll try to figure out the best way to go about this. Maybe allowing easy access to a move relearner could be a solution. Worst case I'll just need to go though the scenes and remove the move references. I can probably do it in half an hour, so it's not that big of a deal. I'll worry about that later, maybe do a poll or something.

About the amount of work, yes, there is a lot to do. But the problem is that the bottleneck is the rendering. Most of the other tasks, like coding and writting, I do while rendering something else. You'd be surprised by the amount of stuff I've ready to go, but are not in the game yet, including most of the pokes 3d models and complete databases of movesets, stats and almost any data I need about the pokes. I basically just need to code them into the game, which I'll do before the 0.1 version. Just a few things actually eat render time because they need cpu power. And the most time consuming of them is the creation and rendering of backgrounds in general, like cities, inside areas, furniture, etc. Hence what I said about third-partying the buildings. With that I meant all the backgrounds basically. The hscenes I have to do myself for a number of reasons, the main one being that for anyone else to render one of my scenes they would need access to a lot of paid assets. This is not a problem with backgrounds because they could use any asset really, as long as the result looks good.

Also, I'm still doing a lot of mistakes when rendering, posing, etc, which often leads to the need of a re-render. Mostly because I still figuring out the best workflow for this. I never did multi-layered composite scenes the way I'm doing for this. Which means I can do stuff faster as I get more experienced with certain things.

Anyway, for any of this to come into play, I'd need much more money on patreon. I can only think about paying people to do stuff if I'm getting enough to pay myself in the first place, haha. A computer upgrade would also help with render times, which I also need money for. Basically, the time needed to finish this project will depend on the amount of support I get, ranging from 2-6 years, estimated. Yes, it will take some time, but 2 years is a very reasonable time for a game, given enough support, of course.

This is your game so you're free to do as you wish but in my opinion you're using the wrong engine for this sort of game. You could try it of course but I think its going to be an uphill battle when there's other options out there more suited for this sort of thing, which could save you both time and frustration in the long run. Ren'py is all about visual novels, its about telling and pushing the story forward based on the curated choices you make. Things as complex as managing moves, using items, leveling, stats, exploring, quests etc, have no place in it but if that's what you want to do then RPGMaker + Pokemon Essentials is a much better candidate and the fact there's popular fan-made pokemon games on that engine just proves my point.

If, on the other hand, you're still keen on doing a visual novel then I suggest you take a look at the Pokemon Academy Life (VN) and try to use it as a reference point. Its probably the closest working example to what you're trying to do, minus the adult themes... but they have a budget and a team, you don't. Also keep in mind that this is primarily a sex game - people are interested in the faps, not micro-managing their pokemon and grinding away levels, we already have the official releases for that. So you will have to find a good balance between gameplay and content people are interested in.

Yeah, I considered other options before starting, but I ended up deciding for renpy since it has a good base and I'm familiar with Python. I'll take a look on that VN you said. And yes, the balance between eroge and gameplay is hard to find, but I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks! Well, actually there is two X-ray scenes now. The last scenes for the Spearow and Mankey, the ones with penetration (Pursuit and Focus Energy). Maybe I just used the wrong term? I thought "x-ray" was used in hentai to describe any scene with internal view of the action. So, apologizes if I misused it.

If you actually just missed the scenes, you probably missed a lot of other stuff too. You need to level up you pokemon and "Go to secluded spot" with them until you exhaust all the scenes. You unlock one per level.

Caterpie has 2, while spearow and mankey both have 5 by my count. Don't recall seeing an actual list of that. though, calling the first few of each a "scene" When really its just your pokemon going "Pfft, whose this loser" Is kinda generous. then they start liking and fucking you.

There is a reason though that I'm not a Patreon yet...I see a lot (and I mean a LOT) of people come on this site, showing their patreon with big dreams and ideas of what their game will become, and then within a couple of months they get overwhelmed with it and quit.
I hope I'm wrong, but I can see that potentially happening with you too, you have big dreams, and I don't know if u can fulfill them.

But I don't say that to put you down, I hope if anything, it encourages you to prove me wrong :p but I wanted to explain why I won't be giving you my money yet, I need to see a bit more dedication over time first.

I have to ask though, what made you decide to do this in Ren'py? Not that I mind it, but RPG Maker seems like a natural fit for a pokemon style game, doesn't it?

Thanks! Yes, there will be some battles in Viridian Forest once I get it done. Also Pewter Gym after that.

I considered a few options before I started the project and a lot of factors contributed to that choice. RPGM is very nice, but to implement all the systems would be very hard for me since I have zero experience with Ruby. I could use Pokemon Essentials, but the author doesn't authorize commercial use of his package. I'm not sure if my game would be considered commercial, but I decided to avoid the possible. Ren'py on the other side uses Python, which I'm very familiar with. Yes, the genre is a bit different but I think it works fine.

In general, I like it. Has a certain appeal that I've been looking for.

But two things bother me.
One, I'll have to agree that the engine is extremely clunky for this type of game. The abundance of clicking combined with the lack of interactivity outside the battle makes it feel less like an adventure game and more of a Visual Novel.

And second, Her look is highly reminiscent of a 60 year old woman with $140,000 of plastic surgery.
And her Personality falls a little short. She seams as though she's suppose to be a Vapid Airhead but she comes across as devoid of any thoughts of her own.

Maybe that's just me. I do tend to be a stickler for inane shit.

Well, about the engine I can't do much except implement systems to make it better to play. I'm working on some sort of map-driven navigation where you click on the map to move around and encounter random events as you explore the areas (similar to slave maker). I think the game will feel much better with it, specially outside of battle.

About the looks, I'm sorry you feel that way, the definition of what is beautiful or not is subjective. And since I didn't see anyone complaining about that since I changed her looks a couple versions ago and it'd be a lot of work to change her appearance at this point, I can't do much about it. Sorry again.

About the personality, it's kinda hard to me because I'm not a native English speaker and most importantly not a professional writter or anything. And I'm doing everything on my own. I can see what you mean about she being kinda shallow but I don't know exactly how to make it better. if I have more patrons in the future I can pay a writter to improve all the writting, including Leaf's dialogue, but right now I'm doing my best. If anyone want to suggest improvements on the dialogues, I'm open to it. I just can't pay for it right now.

With regards to her sounding a bit like an air-head, I think it's because of the way she just seems a bit dense. She's like "oh he wants to touch my boobs as payment? OKAY!" which is not a normal reaction to that "my mother is touching my boobs? OKAY", "The professor won't give me what I want? BLOWJOB!"

Like, no normal woman really works that way (with a few rare exceptions) I know it's a porn game and you need to get the porn in there somehow, but there doesn't seem to be any interaction with her anywhere in the game that doesn't involve sex, and I think that's the main issue, it's difficult to to make a connection with a character that is basically just a sex toy and a slut, she needs to be given a little personality through other interactions, I think.

And yes, I know girls are not like this in real life but I think this is more of a double standards issue, because most porn games with male protagonists, the MC behaves exactly like a "male slut" with very shallow personality and nobody cares. I don't see the difference, really. That being said, I understand what you're saying and I agree partially, especially about the importance of having more non-sexual interactions, which I intend to add. I already have in the game (just not using) a "relationship" value for each NPC. I had the idea of adding more scenes and have the relationship progress more gradually thoughout the game. The problem is that differently from other games where you have the same characters the whole game and live in a house with them or whatever, this game is about the journey. The interactions are not supposed to last long because the player will always be on the move. If Leaf "goes slow" with everyone she interacts along the way she will never leave Pallet and/or barely kiss anyone thoughout the entire game. Just because it's a "meet and fuck" sort of game doesn't mean a character (especially the MC!) has to behave in an absurdly unrealistic way. Slustshaming is not my thing, lest in games in which one doesn't have to worry about pregnacies and STDs, so I'd say that being a slut isn't about forgetting you're a human being with a rational mind but being sure of one's sexuality and having no problems in getting around, be it with lots of people or being a seemingly insatiable partner of The One.

P.S. I also think she looks like an older woman with tons of surgery and make-up.

Ok, sorry. I shouldn't have compared with other games. Two wrongs don't make a right. That was stupid of me.

Once again I understand what you are saying and I hope I could improve on that front. This is probably just the bad writter in me talking but I just can't see a way of doing this without being unrealistic. Let's take as an example the Oak blowjob scene. What could they possibly talk before or during the scene that would make it realistic? I'm open to suggestions. As I said before, the ideal solution would be to hire a writter, but it's not possible atm.

About the appearance, if you could tell me what exactly in her appearance makes you feel that way it would be a great help, because I honestly can't see it. Also, is it just in certain scenes or in the entire game? Because I improved her looks a couple updates ago and some scenes weren't updated yet (I'm assuming you have the last public release). It's just that changing her appearance takes a lot of work and time (re-rendering basically the entire game) and if I'm gonna do it, I need to do it right.

Let's take as an example the Oak blowjob scene. What could they possibly talk before or during the scene that would make it realistic?
Perhaps there could be a short talk on how she's now on her own and therefore he can comment on how he had the hots for her and how, perhaps, there could be something more intimate between the two of them one day... "Why not now, Professor?".

It might be because of the uncanny valley factor, but her face doesn't scream "I'm a random girl in my late teens/early twenties".

Ok, let's use that Professor Oak scene, because that's a perfect example with a very simple solution. When he says he can't give it to her, her reaction is OK LETS DO A BLOWJOB! Instead, she could ask him what she could do to convince him, he could suggest the blowjob, she then refuses and struggles with it for a moment, then she will realise its the only way to get anything from him, and finally agree to do it.
That way I feel it is more than just OK LEMME BLOW U

Also I realised that part of the problem is that the way she behaves before and during h-scenes (naughty) is not consistent with the way she talks and reacts in some other scenes (kinda innocent air-headed), as you both pointed out. So I thought instead of making her behavior less slutty, which is virtually unavoidable for what I have planned, maybe I should make her dialogue and reactions less innocent/air-headed and a little more naughty in the other scenes, therefore giving her a more consistent personality. What you guys think?

You can never go wrong with implementing a purity system. Let her Start out innocent and "discover" her naughtier side.
Might be a little more ambitious then what you were going for but it'll help the game to not feel so much as a Linear Visual Novel.


Also, btw your name change to "Punkmon" really bothers me.
You were better off with the way it was but if you must change it, "Pmon" is a LITTLE less annoying. Or "PKmon" or something.
