Another Tech Specalist redesign thread

I've been thinking on making the tech specialist better to be on par with other classes through the day, this is pretty much what I've come up with.

  • (Paralyzing Shock) Drone Expertise: Your experience with machines allows you to use automated drones better than others
  • (Shield Tweaks) Shield Booster
  • Attack Drone
  • (Shield Booster) Shield Drone: You gain a drone that provides 2 max shield per level and restores 1 shield per level per round. Not self powered.
  • Enhanced Dampeners
  • Overcharge - change to melee attack, only usable with energy weapon tagged melee equipped
  • Volley
  • (Armor Tweaks) Deflector Tweaks: Gain intelligence based evasion while shields are active
  • Power Surge
  • Deflector Regeneration
  • Static Burst
  • Gravidic Disruptor
  • Thermal Disruptor
  • (Shield Regen) Contingency: Restore 40 energy and activate power surge or deflector regeneration (if known) first time shields reach zero every fight
  • Gun Tweaks
  • Weapon Tweaks
  • Fight Smarter
  • (Weapon Hack) Elemental matrix - For 3 rounds equipped energy weapons ignore 50% (additive) electric/thermal/frost resistance.
  • Shield Hack - deals (level)x(intelligence) fixed damage to enemy shields. Stuns robotic enemies.
Additionally, all shields except Ozone shield (and any other shield that has inherit electric resist) gains a -40% weakness to electricity. This would be a global change that would make the use of electric weapons more worthwile.

Drone expertise would be a perk all techs get, while a shield powered drone of choice would be taken at lv2. No matter which drone is chosen, you can effectively swap at will by using an equippable attack type drone or equippable shield type drone as the situation demands it.

So the drone will be put in accesory slot or each tech PC will come with specific drone slot to use?

Well companion/drone slot has been rumored, so i'd figure it'd use that

I hope too for something like this new mysterious slot added. Maybe when we got more brothers/sisters of tam-wolf and siegwulf.

Maybe the Tech should have a shield-steal ability? Won't work on enemies without a shield but that's sorted by the other option, whatever that may be.

Shield-steal like ability is sorta already included with a flag of Drain/Great Dran on weapons - it leech some of shiled damaged with attack to give it to weapon user.

Umm Attack Drone still useless. Well this one is most tricky to keep not OP and yet not UP.

One main thing i'm trying to do with this idea is make shields and drones non-exclusive. You'll gain the perk to use drones effectively at start and shield booster at lv2. Your useless drone choice at 2 will only be the default that will be in effect when you don't have something better equipped.

Still I think some people not wanna thing that the lvl 2 drone for attack is still sort of "dummy till PC find real one attack drone" thing. On the other side having default attack drone be at least as good as Tam or Siegwulfe will make those additional drones or needless or in need to buff up.

Another alternative is to have techs start with a non-powered attack drone as an item, and replace the lv2 chosen perks altogethere with something else.

By non powered attack drone you have in mind make techs starts with current drone perk as default from the start?

Yes. All the current drone items have a tag "Self powered" that indicate that they don't deactivate when shields go down.

Eh, but only for melee, and it would be an ability that would hopefully stay useful throughout the entire game.
Other ideas.... Maybe an attack that drains your own shields and does massive damage depending on how much shielding you had?

With Fen fixation on sci-fi I slight concerned if he will see ability to drain shields on distance fitting. Only sort of space magic he see worthy is psionics.

Something occurred to me while hitting up the energy drink vending machine on Novahome. I've seen suggestions before for a cooling belt for use on hot or desert planets. What if such a belt allowed you to place a set number of energy drinks in your inventory? The downside would be that you'd gain less heat resist from it when loaded.
Then our tech specialists could have a cold one when they run low on energy.

Fenstaff are surprisingly vanilla when it doesn't come to their particular fetishes.

We got energy restoring items to be used in fight like zil honey or myr honey. Energy drink name sound too vanilla for combat energy restoring item.
