Freeing Del, were I to ever write such a thing, would probably be done as part of the Faction system (either with you taking over from Beth or dismantling her operation). 

The fleet over Myrellion is made up of Confederate warships, so it's pretty safe to assume at least some of them are capital ships.

I think it was more ideological than racial in origin: which SOCIETY, regardless of race, has the right to determine the planet's future. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the conflict was much more intense than it needed to be because of purely racial aggression.
