Ahhh JVM arcana. How wonderful. Seriously though, thanks for this. I hope it solves the problem for the others as well.

The most common cause for this is that you're trying to run the game directly from the archive. Try extracting the zip first (not to a special folder like C:\Windows or Program Files) and then try again.

I had it extracted

And I run the remaining rar file as java... Am I doing something wrong?

I can't discern the problem for this (other than WinRAR being the default for JAR files, but if you manually select java.exe that would not be a problem). You are running an older version, though. The newest one can always be found in this post:

https://fenoxo.com/forum/index.php?/topic/77-nightgames-mod-v206-updated-71216-by-dndw/#comment-760

In the meantime, could you upload the contents of your log file? (Assuming that you have one; I don't see it in the picture. If you don't, you probably don't have write permissions in the folder you're running from, and that's your problem. Either move it to a different folder or run as administrator.)

Wait, did you install the Java Runtime Environment or the Java Developer Kit?

This shouldn't matter. The JDK includes many extras, but none of them are required to run any Java program, just to aid in making them. For 99% of people the JRE is perfectly fine.

After a couple of scenes you can get through exercise during the day, Yui can train you in the unique Ninjitsu skill. She cannot be unlocked for fights; she is a trainer only.

That said, I believe there was a bug in the sequence of training scenes, so it may be inaccessible. To bypass this and gain access to the training, you can add the "YuiLoyalty" (case-sensitive) flag in the appropriate section at the bottom of your save file.

Ahh kk, thank you.

That's what i love about this game, endless possible avenues and paths here.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but is there any single list of the changes that the mod(s) make?

So the thread title has been at 2.0.6 for a couple months, has the game been updated since?

Getting an error that says "cannot find main class" when I try to start it up

That is genuinely strange. Try redownloading from over here, and see if you have the latest version of Java installed. At the time of writing, that's Java 8 update 112.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but is there any single list of the changes that the mod(s) make?

There is no such list, but here are some key points:

  • Combatants have a Willpower meter. Willpower is reduced by orgasm and submissiveness (primarily, there are other things that reduce it), and the fight is over when a combatant reaches an orgasm which reduces Willpower below 0. (Other things can lower it to zero, but matches can only end on orgasm.) This means it usually takes 2-3 orgasms (in the early game) to beat an opponent.
  • Character's bodies are much more malleable. Each character has their own body type, and the player can purchase these.
  • The previous item applies to gender as well. The player can choose a gender at the start, but there are items that can temporarily add/remove, grow/shrink certain 'assets'. The new Body Shop also provides permanent modifications.
  • Improved, more flexible clothing system.
  • More characters, traits, statuses and skills.
  • Extensive options for customization. You can write your own characters with their own scenes and their own clothes, if you are so inclined. You can also create custom scenarios to begin the game with.
So the thread title has been at 2.0.6 for a couple months, has the game been updated since?

Yes it has, although not recently. I can't update the first post or title, but you can always find my latest version in the post I linked to in response to clingybouncer above.

Have the latest java and game version, the game works on my old windows 7 laptop but I still keep getting the "Can't find or load main class" followed by the file location. Don't know if it matters but trying to run the game on windows 10 laptop

The most likely problem is that you also have an older Java installed, and that one is set as the default. Try uninstalling all Java versions (either from Settings or the control panel), then reinstall Java 8u112. If that doesn't work, try redownloading the game (if you haven't already) to make sure it's not some kind of corruption.

How to learn animism? I visited Kat like 50 times, defeated her near 10, have lv 20+

Also how to counter Angel after she gets her upgraded Kiss?

For animism, you need the magic training scenes in addition to being friendly with Kat. You can unlock Magic Training at the Informant. Once you've done it at least once and Kat likes you enough, you can ask her about her animal spirit. You can then ask Aisha (the magic trainer) about it, and she can then infuse you with such a spirit, unlocking Animism by doing so.

There is no direct counter to Kiss of Baptism, and it's quite a bit overpowered, probably. The best thing to do is probably to stun or bind her, and then get into a position where she cannot use it. Another option is to try to keep her mojo down, as Kiss of Baptism requires 30 points of it. Things like the Shamed status should help.

I unlocked arcane training and invested 20K in it, and unlocked Kat's gift and clothes options, but still no questions about animism. Well i found you can actually watch how Angel builds mojo and time "counter" with it (she almost always use KoB after streaptease, for example, since its 30+ mojo) but she's still hard to beat even without KoB, since she drains all wp with orgasm.

Also, it's probably a bug, you can upgrade Divinity from Angel for no cost as long as you have 1 holy water, i mean it's not consumed for upgrade.

Hey guys,

I kind of just disappeared eh? RL hits you hard unfortunately. I came to a realization that I just don't really have the time to work on a new game and actually put much content into it, so I've been messing around with nightgames a bit more.

I don't really have much of an update, but picking up from dndw's branch, I added a new feature that I personally wanted for a while now. The AIs now have "strategies" in addition to picking the best skill at all times. I'm hoping that will make the game a bit more varied, and stop the AI from just spamming kiss/invitation 24/7. How it works is the AI every turn will randomly pick a strategy based on their preferences and their current state, While in a strategy, they will use preferred skills in order until the duration of the strategy runs out, or they have no moves to pick from. Then they will just pick a new strategy. I'm hoping this will make the matches a bit more flavorful, and have some of the rarer skills come out more often.

Currently the ones I've added are:

fuck strategy - try to strip, arouse, mount, and fuck in order of availability

knockdown strategy - try to knock down or build enough mojo to knock down

foreplay strategy - try to restrain and use non-fuck pleasure skills

footjob strategy (currently used by Mara, could be changed) - try to knockdown and use footjob skills

facesit strategy (currently used by Reyka and Jewel) - try to knock down, strip and facesit

strap-on strategy (currently used by Mara, Angel and Jewel) - try to put on strap on, knock down, ass fuck

nurse strategy (used by Cassie after unlocking lactation) - try to grab and use nurse

default strategy - all skills available, choose best" like currently implemented

I also wanted to rebalance some of the stamina skills. Currently there's really little point in knocking someone down in the late game because everyone has a ton of stamina and you just spam instant knockdowns/stuns or spam kiss and other non-stance related moves. I'm going to see if I can restrict stamina growth a bit more on level and have it scale damage and defense on level a bit more while nerfing some of the moves that do not require you to be in a stance. Stuff like handjob and kiss should be a lot less accurate if you don't have them pinned. Stamina damage late game will be a bit more relevant, and you may need to dump some points into power or pick up some new defense traits to keep you from just getting pushed around. The rebalance will take a bit of play-testing before it feels really good, but hopefully makes the late game a bit less stale.

Anyways, anyone have other stuff they want to see? Might put together a new release if no one has something they want to release.

@nergantre Sounds pretty cool. I could see masochism + an assortment of pain-based skills for Eve, as well as spanking/flicking/facefucking for a mojo-killing shame strategy. Maybe temporal stuff for Mara, since Wind-up has to be used before any of the temporal skills.

By the way, did Smother ever end up becoming anything? I see it in the files, but I've never seen it used in-game.

Woah I didn't realize the temporal stuff was even added. Cool, could be interesting.

And for smother, woops apparently that was never added to the skill pool. Haha... Plus it apparently requires the smqueen trait to even use, which is a Jewel exclusive trait... I may make this just require 5 fetish instead to make it a bit more accessible.

I haven't played much around with Eve, so I'm not quite sure what her thing is right now. She seems a bit like Mara unfortunately, which is to say, kind of a haphazard collection of skills that don't really lend itself to any defining characteristic (other than you know, being shemale). Any ideas for this? Being a dominatrix right now seems to be taken up by Jewel at the moment, not quite sure how to differentiate her.

I have an unmerged pullrequest open for typofixes, if you're gonna make a release.

Merged in.

Btw I see someone named logosK doing some balance changes and bug fixes on github. Is that one of you people here? Did you want me to merge some stuff in or is it just a personal branch?

Ninjitsu is in too, but Yui hasn't been finished so it isn't assigned to any NPCs at the moment. Jewel is the obvious candidate, in my opinion. You may want to do something about Goodnight Kiss if you give it to her though. Maybe make it a DoT with debuff instead of a straight-up KO, since it wasn't made with Willpower or Jewel's addiction in mind.

Character-wise, I believe Eve is supposed to be a sadistic, hedonist type, while Jewel is simply a competitive tomboy rather than a "proper" dominatrix (ignoring that all opponents are competitive and/or hedonistic to some notable degree because they play the Night Games). There's definitely some overlap with regard towards their tendency to violence, and the fluff differences probably don't translate very well into gameplay mechanics unless you want to dive into the deep and murky pool of masochism and try to define the line between more orthodox fighting moves that Jewel might be predisposed to use and more sexual attacks like slaps, spanks, low blows, riding crop, shock balls, etc, for Eve. You could do this if you really wanted to distinguish the two characters, but it's pretty arbitrary business, and I'm not convinced it's entirely necessary, since it's not like there an issue with common lust-based attacks. It's probably better to focus on their advanced attributes to differentiate them and just let them share common pain-based skills, similar to how, say, Angel and Samantha share lust-based skills. I'm not so sure about Cassie, Mara, and Kat. They don't really stand out to me, but that's a topic for another time.

That somewhat off-topic ramble out of the way, I'd say Eve leans more heavily on fetish and sexual stuff (dark talisman, masochism, bondage, face-fuck, imbue fetish, flick, restrain, sacrifice, smother, spank, tortoise wrap, item use, and of course ass-fuck, since all of her quotes seem to be about that), while Jewel just wants to beat you up and enjoy the view from the top (kick, knee, shove, tackle,  stomp, arm lock, leg lock, tear clothes, facesit, mount). That said, it still seems rather unclear to me. This is all very stream-of-consciousness while I wait for my dinner to cook. I feel like this is a question for The Silver Bard himself, and I believe he once said he didn't like writing for Jewel (and Eve?) because of their nature. As well, dndw said he was working on an addiction for Eve a while back. Something about assfucking or semen addiction. Those are some people to confer with. I'll think about it some more.

Hmm I think I'm at the point where I need some more eyes on it. I get the feeling that > level 40 things are going to be pretty hairy again, and I'm very open to balance suggestions.

2.3.0
Bug fixes:
- A lot of random miscellaneous stuff I've never noticed
    - Fixed bug where you gain 5 mojo permanently every turn your naked as a exhibitionist... :(
    - Fixed bug where you could not lick pussy from underneath a 69
    - Many typo fixes

New:
- Added preset AI strategies that will hopefully spice up the game a bit more. Expect AIs to use some more of the lesser used skills
- Added a new female Tighten variant: Vice. This will instantly make the target cum, but can only be used while the target is stunned or is under 25% stamina as well as having >50% arousal.
    - Requires 24 Ninjutsu (so basically no one is going to use this yet)
- Added a new arcane skill Glamour which increases the "hotness" multiplier for arousal damage by 2.0. Requires 6 arcane.

Balance changes:
- Changed how stamina works.
    - Now all sources of healing is much less than before, so stamina damage will stick a bit more.
    - Nerfed exercised and porn to give 1-2 points without fitness nut/expert googler, 2-4 with the perks.
        - You can now only achieve a maximum of 100 + level * 8 arousal, and 100 + level * 5 stamina through training.
Hopefully this stops the stat ballooning at end game where you can just spam porn and have > 2000 maximum arousal.
    - Taking points in power (and to a lesser extent cunning) will now both increase the amount of hurt you do, and the amount of stamina loss you get from taking damage.
    - Getting knocked off your feet will stun you for 2 turns, and getting your stamina bar emptied will stun you for 4 turns.
    - Being stunned/winded will reduce pleasure damage taken by 50%.
    - Having a point in Divinity will upgrade the braced status after getting up, increasing the damage reduction and extending it to 6 turns.
    - Shield now lasts for 7 turns (up from 4).
    - Increased the pain threshold for reducing arousal from 4% up to 16.66%
- Points in cunning will now decrease the amount of damage from toys taken as well as increasing damage dealt. Science will also increase toys damage, but will not add to defence.
- Points in dark and arcane will increase the amount of drain damage dealt and decreased drain damage received.
- Points in Bio/Animism/Science/Medicine will improve biological damage. So far this is limited to pheromones and aphrodisiacs. The same attributes will reduce damage from them with the addition of cunning to a lesser extent.
- Mara now has a new perk "Deft hands" at 33 that increases her pleasure damage with hands by a flat 2-5.
- Mara now has a new perk "Nimble toes" at 42 that increases her pleasure damage with feet by a flat 2-5.
- Mara now has a new perk "Toymaster" at 36 that increases her skill effectiveness with toys.

Bronzechair's analysis of Eve seems pretty good to me. She does indeed have a strong penchant for fucking people in the ass. I imagine her as having acquired her cock through perhaps nefarious ways for that specific purpose, and that she's gone a bit overboard. Whatever caused her 'alteration' also fucked up her mind a bit, in the same way her Fetish-based skills tend to fuck up the player. I don't know whether this is compatible with The Silver Bard's ideas for her, though.

Hmm I think I'm at the point where I need some more eyes on it. I get the feeling that > level 40 things are going to be pretty hairy again, and I'm very open to balance suggestions.

Interesting! It's definitely more difficult at the beginning, because the girls will just push you around. It gets more even as you unlock more options and beef up your stats a bit. Maybe my well-rounded build is outdated now. I'm still pretty low level but so far I like the changes. The increased variety in the AI's move selection is also refreshing, and I think the select competitor option is really cool.

Just two typos right now. Your opponent using Kiss but being pushed away uses the PC's name. The other one is in the F/F finger, though I didn't write it down. I think it says "you" instead of "your".

And of course, some crashes for you: http://pastebin.com/ajnskCaP and http://pastebin.com/khfRCDWX

The second one seems to break the game once you get to tier 1. Something to do with tentacles.

EDIT:

  • Addicted has become quite strong, since your odds of kissing a standing opponent are so diminished. This may be offset by enthralling juices later on.
  • Reyka seems to spam Nothing a lot. Unsure if this is a bug or if she just likes to watch.
  • Clothes are still weird sometimes. You're equipped with random pieces at the start of a match a lot. Seems to happen the most with latex pants, the groin protector, and the new ninja outfit. Speaking of the latter, it and the open cup bra & crotchless panties are available to male characters in the XXX shop. I have no issue with cross-dressing, but I figure this is an inconsistency, since the boutique is exclusive to PCs with a vagina.
  • "Angel uses Struggle. Angel struggles against you, but you drop your ass over she face again, forcing her to service you."
  • Having a third party interrupt you being enthralled by Reyka says the shock of it drops you to the ground, but you actually stay standing and just suffer from mind control for a single turn.
  • What's the difference between Tribadism and the new Pussy Grind? Both are available as options for a female PC now. Or is Pussy Grind to Tribadism as Ride Face is to Facesit, and it's errerously showing up before you use Tribadism?
  • Being knocked down stuns you for three turns, rather than two.
  • I couldn't say if this is a bug, but it seems a bit odd. Angel starts using a groin protector around level 8 or 9. I thought that was restricted to Ki training.

Ack crashes :(.

I fixed the ones you pointed out.

I'm not sure where the finger typo is yet, but I'll keep looking.

Not sure what to do about addicted. Maybe add some positioning moves to the list of possible skills?

I'll take a look at Reyka. I haven't really playtested her very much post update, mostly limiting myself to the original 4 to make it a bit less overwhelming. I suspect that a strategy is overriding her normal decisions and it's tripping up the AI. In addition to the normal strategies, she has footjob strategy, knockdown strategy and facesit strategy. None of those are unique to her though. Jewel and Mara should share some of those.

Not sure what's up  with clothing. I'll take a look when I get the chance.

I'll be completely honest and just say that I have literally no idea why there's both trib and pussy grind. I suspect there was some reason for it before, but I'm not sure why. Trib looks like it's a bit stricter with the requirements, and deals a bit less damage, but otherwise they're pretty much identical.

Stunned is indeed 3 turns. The duration is set to 2, which means it will go from 2 -> 1, 1 -> 0, 0 > removed. Woops.

Winded is weird too. It lasts for 3-4 turns right now. I'm going to make this just always 4 turns for now.

I have no idea why Angel is wearing a cup, but it is a random drop from caches. Maybe she picked one up and put it on? :|  There's nothing really preventing her from doing it I guess...

Edit: Yup Reyka's footjob usehandstrategy was the problem. Somehow slap and tickle were not marked as positioning/stamina damage, so the only skill she could use to satisfy the positioning requirement was DarkTendrils. Then after using it once, she will run out of mojo. Dark tendrils is still a "valid" skill to chose though, so she will try to use it, but end up doing nothing because it doesn't meet the mojo requirements. D'oh.

Edit 2: Aha, apparently loading clothing from a save file will equip random stuff from your closet. Woops.

Edit 3: Think I found the finger typo as well.

Anyways going to spin up another build with these fixes. Give it a go.

Double posting, but I do want a new post for this:

2.3.1
Bug fixes:
- Fixed a crash bug related to tentacles.
    - Unfortunately this does change it a bit, in that it will use the character's stats in calculating pleasure damage whereas before it was using a dummy tentacles character. Oh well.
- Fixed a crash bug related to the Glamour skill
- Fixed a bug that caused AI opponents not to evaluate tickle and slap as stamina damage.
- Stunned now 3 -> 2 turns and winded lasts 3-4 -> 4 turns.
- Fixed a bug where characters will equip random clothing they own upon loading from a save. This removes compatibility with SUPER old saves. If you're using like < 1.9 saves, well, don't :p
- Fixed a bunch of typos and grammar issues. I swear writing for nightgames is like doing madlibs...
- Fixed a bug where Footjob strategy would cause the user to do squats. (repeatedly stand up and mount you)

New:
- Added WindUp strategy to Mara. Maybe she'll actually begin using some of those temporal skills...

Balance:
- Made windup a bit more attractive.
    - Charging will now only cost charges * 5 mojo instead of charges * 10.
- Dark Tendrils will now also knockdown upon successful bind.
    - It now will arouse the user by 15% instead of by 5 flat.
- Dominate will also now cost 10% arousal instead of a flat 10.
