I'll be honest, I like Brint just being some guy that you're friendly with. I think the companions should be like friends and and Brint fulfils that great. Berwyn completely fails this. He just exists in this own bubble, where he just jerks off and studies magic. No interesting thoughts about the world, the town or even anything around you, he just jerks off and studies magic. He's as bite sized as you can get. He's the outline off a character. Sure he's insecure. So what? Why does that matter? It only exists so you can have a one off cute scene with him.snip
He just has nothing that grabs me. After everything, beneath all those obnoxious layers of Quin I can still see a great character. An in over his head nobleman, who belives that life has screwed him over, joins a cult that promises him everything he wants, only too late to realize the real danger behind his actions. Sure it isn't exactly executed great, but Berwyn doesn't even have that. He's just a mage that studied under Matiah and was turned into a femboy. Do people even remember that? The transformation? Cuz it's not relevant to anything. He has nothing.
I know these criticism are kind off unfair. If Hugs were still an author I'm sure he would have fleshed him out greatly. But he's not here. And Berwyn is abandoned. B's "last hurrah" for him was dissapointing. It just alows you to customize his appereance. Cuz in the end that's all he is. A cute face. People get drawn in by his great portrait, admittedly I was one of them, and start fantasizing all the great things you can do with the wolf boy. But that's all it is. An idea.
It's Berwyn, the character vs. Berwyn, the idea
