Would it be possible to upgrade ship storage size (before buying ships is available)

So since we fairly recently got backpack upgrades that allow us to carry up to 20 items, would it be possible to do something similar for ship storage.

The following paragraphs are a bit ranty and just give more context on why I am asking so can be ignored.

(While some are fine like valuables and toys (I don't think there are even 10 different items that can be stored in the toys category, even less worth keeping) wardrobe is also fine as long as you don't like playing dress up same for consumables.

The problem is the equipment tab as this stores both weapons and accessories which assuming I keep only the items that are I would use and are one of a kind then I end up with only 3 free slots. If I want to keep some items for the sake of convenience like say alternate weapon or accessory loadouts, then I would need at least 12 to 15 slots.)

Pretty much nothing is known... Well, we have a few details (keep in mind, everything is subject to change)
  • There will be storage
  • Crew size will be restricted by your ship, presumably you'll need a massive ship to collect them all
  • Functional rooms will be slotted into a ship's map. Theres a great deal of uncertainty on how exactly this would work.
Slab wrote a wonderful ship thing... that was shot down by devs. Slab said he'll update it after ship update so it can be implemented, and i truly hope this happens cuz his ships are awesome.

That's why, so as not to make it dependent on ephemeral promises of ship content, it'd be better to alleviate some inventory concerns by just sticking some storage in the nursery.

I very much approve the idea, since the ship upgrade has been a mirage for so long, and in the meanwhile various authors have been adding all kinds of cool weapon and accessory options that end up cluttering the inventory if one cannot stand giving them up in the frustrating wait the ship upgrade vaporware at long last takes substance. I've filled up storage and took every available option to expand inventory, yet I only have 2-4 free slots left out of a double dozen, just from carrying around all the quest rewards and equipment alternatives I'm reluctant to lose.

On the subject of extra storage space; while I like the idea, I don't see why we have to go all the way up to the nursery, when there's a whole hangar available to you:

"A sprawling, brightly lit hangar greets your eyes, empty save for a single ship near the back. Your gaze is pulled away from the distant craft by the sheer size of the enclosure. A hangar like this must have cost your father a veritable fortune to buy out - not much considering how wealthy he was, but no insignificant chunk of change. Magnetically-bounded plasma shields hold in the atmosphere while remaining transparent enough for you to view the nearby warp gate and inky blackness beyond. Perhaps the only thing this place couldn’t hold would be a capital ship, but a number of moorings with connective umbilicals stand by to tether one outside in that extreme scenario."

Theoretically, you should be able to store virtually every item you own there, including all four of Slab's proposed ships. And if you're a Kind Steele, you could offer Saen a free docking berth for the Phoenix, thereby alleviating some of her credit concerns.

Since for most things you would only need a closet (Ships do not exist yet, after all), Nursery would be ok. It is also saver then the hangars and able to put things that need conserving in the cold.

I'd like to have a separated storage for weaponry and accessories. The equipment storage will be always cluttered due having to deal with ranged and melee weapons, on top of the accessories.
Honestly this is probably one of the better idea for the short term though no idea if it would be easier to implement than some other suggestions.

This is another excellent idea. Besides having insufficent space, a lot of our current equipment storage difficulties come from the fact the game stuffs too much items at once in the same equipment category. Having separate storages spaces for melee weapons, ranged weapons, and accessories would solve a lot of trouble. Conversely, we have a 'toys' separate space that in my experience goes almost completely unused and wasted.

I agree the hangar should work as well as the nursery to fit a much larger (theoretically virtually unlimited, for the kind of items we are dealing with) larger storage space than any ship.

You can use the Raw tab in TiTSEd to change the number of storage slots in the ship, just be aware that having too many items in one category will cause the game to stop with an 'uncaught range' error when showing it (I think it only currently allows about 40 items)

Very good to know. Do you perchance remember how is the variable named?

One thing i just remembered!
Wouldn't it make sence that when Kase is part of the crew and he reorganises the storage, he adds maybe two slots to each Category?
Simply adding 2 to each of the variables when he joins the crew onboard and removeing 2 when you tell him to leave should do the trick, right?

He doesn't do that. If he did it would probably be done after ship rework.
He does that only in word, not in action.
When you recruit him and go back to your ship, he says that he reorganised some stuff and in general that he is your logistics-officer.

The both sentences with Questionmarks were a sugestion how he could mechanical represent it, as well as that it only few simple varables are.

True I my fault I took it literally forgetting about his enter ship text.

That could be a problem...

Agree... Easy enough if the storage has 2 or more empty spots, but WTF do you do if it's full? Might be able to repurpose the "use/discard" menu for when you pick up a thing with a full inventory to discard specific items in the storage

I've tested your method and it works fine. Storage space problems solved. Many thanks! I recommend this to any player that experiences this problem nad has no issue with save editing.

D'aww, thanks. :D I was wondering why I kept getting likes on something I wrote a year ago that's been mostly dead since.

But I don't think the devs shot me down. They didn't even say anything about my actual work in the thread. I knew the shiplot wasn't going to be usable when I wrote it, I just had the idea and went with it. And Gedan made some great posts in that thread about what the ships will actually have. I'm still going to make those ships work with the actual ship stuff once that stuff happens.
