Why Can't I Heal Whenever I Want? (plus related digression)

I feel very silly having a battle happen a square or two away from my camp, and having to walk back to my camp in order to have the ability to select the Heal action. It seems this is strictly an issue with the game interface? An intentional design choice could have been made that healing magic takes time and leaves you vulnerable, but then it wouldn't be accessible in combat. So if Cait can cast healing spells in one combat round, then why can't she cast them between combats when we're not in a town or camp?

Cuz game balance.

Hm. So basically because there isn't an action economy outside of combat? Except there kinda is, with the time system, but that doesn't really fix the problem. I kinda see where this comes from, but it still annoys me. Maybe there could be a money cost or something? I do think Cait's in-combat healing is kinda OP; she really does turn the game into Easy Mode, especially if you pair her with Brint.

Time isn't a cost in this game. There are no adverse effects from time passing.

You can heal out of combat for monetary cost. Buy vulneraries.

It's basically the same reason why Darkest Dungeon doesn't allow you to use healing powers out of combat and forces you to eat food or camp instead.
