What's the colored gem at the top right of character portrait?

I'm new to CoC2 and this has been eating away at me. There's a colored gem at the top right of the character portrait. Mine was green at first but has turned orange as time passes. I'm just curious what this means? I know there's probably a simple answer but I don't know.
