What text creation makers are there?

I been looking into this and it's not too clear about which ones use point and click (like CoC) and which ones don't. At least not at a quick glance. So far I got my eye on Adrift, but I'm wondering what limitations there might be with the text adventure makers and what others might work out if that's the case (Such as Inform and Quest). I know someone with coding skills (of which I only have the basics of, counting out TUDS and the like), but without a way to try things out firsthand my muse decides to take a dive. I just want something simple to get my thoughts on paper as it were. A test so to speak. Notepad just doesn't cut it. Now that I'm about to get a lot of time on my hands again it's the perfect time to do that. Eventually it might all get pasted onto something more advanced, so any limitations won't remain forever which means I can use something a little restrictive as well, at least to begin with. Point and click isn't something I need to do myself when making it, but it is going to be something that's needed once it's playable down the line. Being able to add a custom background would be a big advantage too.

A few things to keep in mind. Every character (perhaps even events) is likely going to be altered after being implemented. And there's going to be a fair degree of randomness. What chance there is for who to appear where for example (as opposed to CoC characters appearing at fixed times every time, of which will also be added). There's also going to be a lot of content eventually, so "change friendly" is a must. This includes allowing the player to select what is in game and not at the start, much like in Flexible Survival. There's also the matter of things like stats, health, damage and levels, as well as what items give what stats. There's going to be a lot of number crunching eventually (enemy levels scaling with the player perhaps), but since this is more for testing purposes it can be kept very simple, even if restrictive. And of course there's the whole multiple locations which gets combined with randomness and who might be where, which will obviously require a random percentage check of what might happen or not. That should be simple enough though. Toss a dice, that thing happens. In other words I need to be able to toss a dice. That will also be good for random selection of smut scenes. Also it's going to be on its own site eventually and I'd like to do things offline before putting anything on, so no on site/online only software. I'm going to be saving everything on and off. Seen saving to one alone end badly all too often.

Also I heard why CoC isn't being polished anymore. The coding itself going spazzo at some point, throwing things out of wack or something (I'd like to note it's a fault with flash itself, not Fenoxo). I think that was a one time thing when it became abandenware, but it's kinda put me on edge. I'm wondering if it's worth going with flash eventually due to the scripter knowing about the coding of it. Though he also said he wouldn't mind learning something else if needed. I'll worry about that later though.

Back to the original point of the thread. What text adventure makers are easy to use and offer the most with only basic coding? And which ones have a point and click interface?
