What did happen to The Silence?

I've heard vague allusions to it being discontinued or similar, but have yet to turn up anything concrete about what happened. (the fact that it's such a common term it's actually pretty hard to look up doesn't help) I'd been wanting to play it for a while (and found a place I could from the forums), and certain events with Kara as she is in-game made me think about it even more.

So, what exactly did happen?

The Silence itself wasn't discontinued, it is finished as it stands. What was removed, after it was implemented for a short time, was a save transfer with TiTS, where the outcome you achieve in The Silence would effect what crew members and equipment Kara has when you meet her in TiTS, a la Mass Effect. As far as I know there are still plans to implement this feature in the future, but it's on the back-burner, and shouldn't be expected any time soon.

Well... I wouldn't say Smut is the same as Romance (with PG 13 sex scenes).

Although I could totally see some of the innuendo and random sex-related banter pushing it.
