Voln: R-18 Visual Novel RPG Thoughts?

Honestly, I think it's pretty fun. Some balancing issues, bugs, heavy RNG, and some other problems, but to be fair: this thing is really early in development. Doesn't excuse the current problems much, but it makes sense.

Although I did like a bit of what I saw. Most of the character designs were pretty nice and the porn itself was good. I think this thing has promise. Anyone got their two cents to share?

edit: Just joined his Patreon, and I can confirm the arts' been changed and the game dev is continuing. Also I messaged him about it and he says the whole think was "a misunderstanding". shrugs But if he's banned here I respect that. also he seems to actually be a fenoxo patron so i don't understand why he dissed him. he must like the guy. :/

He's not banned, it was just a touch of drama. A bunch of people made new accounts to spur on a witch hunt based on unclear information so the topics were deleted to put an end to that. There was no word on making new topics but the guy himself decided to wait for it to blow over.

Dude, why stick your nose on something that doesn't concern you? Let sleeping dogs lie. Both sides were pretty adamant on playing victim and pointing fingers at each other so there's no guarantee they're going to tell you the whole truth now. He and his game ain't welcome here anymore, period. Ban or no ban, evidence or no evidence. We don't care about answers, we just want the whole topic buried and left alone.

That little blurb at the end of his demo is mostly fiction with some misleading framework. There was no conversation between him and Fenoxo and his "banning", such as it was, was self-exile after a bunch of randos started accusing him of scamming one of his artists out of a check.

Phrasing it this way is likely an attempt at promotion (he always had a bit of a sleazy talking-out-of-the-corners-of-his-mouth vibe to him and with nothing much to show originally he came off as a snake oil salesman - even after putting a real demo together that vibe still holds); by taking a shot at one of the biggest names in Western adult games and inventing this story about calling him out on wasting people's money I'm sure he hopes to come off as some kind of populist alternative and rope in people like 4chan crowd that tried to make their own game and cobbled together a mismash patchwork quilt of different ideas and zero eroticism.

Trying to craft some kind of chuu2 counter-culture erogame revolutionary persona, in other words. From the start he seemed v. keen on that rather than taking anyone's advice on how successful projects operate. If that's how he wants to do it then let him have his fun. To his team's credit the demo actually feels quite polished and it has the feel of a high effort D&D campaign.

Wanted to say I was talking with him and he told me different stuff and gave me images to back it up. I capped a conversation between us too and added that as well so you could see his words for yourself. I really dont want in the middle of this so I'm stepping back now. Also if we cant talk about "Voln", do you guys know of similar games? More games like coc? Also your opinions of TiTs? Want to know if supporting Fenoxo is worth it. What's your opinion of "The Eternal Feast"?

Anyway, a slight clarification of the chronology: Originally, m0rv wasn't banned, their thread was just removed because it was generating drama and the moderators decided to nix it to avoid witch hunting. Looking at the date of that Fenoxo screenshot, they did get banned only after the second thread when evidence emerged that they were badmouthing Fenoxo on another site.

Also if we cant talk about "Voln", do you guys know of similar games? More games like coc?

Also, you're new here and just happen to bring up a topic that is tabboo around here, of course people are going to doubt your intentions and purpose here. When the one whole drama happened a few people made new accounts just so they could stirr up shit and cause issues, you could very well just be another person trying to do that behind a veil of naivety and curiosity.

I wasn't around when it happened but I heard about the fallout and things were... bad. Based on what I know it went like this - one of the artists M0rv hired didn't met his expectations and as a result he decided he wasn't to pay the rest that was agreed upon. They argued about it, there was some semblance of "blackmail" being exchanged between them (mostly m0rv to the artist) and the guy decided to make their business-gone-sour known publicly. The guy managed to get a large amount of people on his side who proceeded to go on a witch hunt against the developer. People made new accounts and started dropping all sorts of drama, accusations and hatred around. It was an absolutely chaotic mess.

Honestly, I still don't understand why people felt the need to act so passionately about shit that doesn't concern them... so what if the artist felt robbed? I get it that it sucks but it ain't our place to be judge and jury about stuff we barely know anything about, its their business deal, let them handle it. Airing up your dirty laundry on the internet in the hopes of getting a witch hunt against those who wronged, when you were partially to blame, speaks volumes on what kind of individual you are.

No, not really. I'm sorry you haven't receive a proper welcome around here, its not a bad place to hang out, really, but this topic in particular is problematic as I have mentioned before.
Since you stated in the other thread you're gay, have you heard about Black Gate? Its M/M only and relatively popular, the only thing you may not like is that its furry/anthro based... but the caveat is that the main protagonist is a normal human guy so there's that at least. You may want to ask Karunama (another member around here) he knows more about the topic than I do. Also check out this thread, Kesil kindly compiled all threads inquiring about gay games. Give it a look.

Unfortunately there's just not a lot of good content for it in English. Back before the ~durama~ my interest in this particular title was out of promises for good amounts of content of that type. In the demo there's a decent amount of NPC content for it and zero PC content so who knows how and if it's going to shape up from there.

Most of what you see from Western smutsketeers is like trap quest: catering to the sissy fetish (which is all emasculation, humiliation, forced feminization in service to both of those) rather than just traps/femboys as their own thing the way the Elevens tend to do it. You do see stuff of that type with Japanese content, too, but it's not the majority of it; it's not a given that if you play through a game like that it'll be all oh-your-penis-is-so-small-you're-a-failure-of-a-man-now-let's-fuck-you-and-make-you-a-girl. But since it's rare enough for a vanilla eroge to get translated only a handful with this subject matter have one. Visual Novel Reader can provide a rough, but usually understandable, machine translation for any visual novel style game but this leaves out all the RPG Maker titles and such.

The two I know of with English translations are Otomaid Cafe (decent, has both top and bottom content, all traps - both the MC and the love interests) and School Idol QT Cool (haven't played this one yet, couldn't get VNR to work with it but just found out that it got a translation out of nowhere; p. sure the content is all MC trap with girl and another femboy).

For those you'd need machine translation for head over to vndb.org, play with the tags, and see what you find. With nyaa gone it's a bit harder to find games but anime-sharing.com is one good place (even if a lot of the uploaders don't use MEGA for some arcane reason).

Now, all that doom gloomed, there are a few good Western games with it as a focus but not a whole lot, if any, m/m content if that's what you're looking for.

A lot of these eroge titles have little-to-no story to speak of, yeah. Red was better than Blue (though I thought it was funny that Red was -named- blue) in part because the MC wasn't all that convincing as a top - not that fetishy D O M I N A N T behavior is necessary or even desirable, usually it comes off as goofy, but he seemed so reserved and confused to the point where Blue p. much had to tell him what to do - but also because the ideas for scenes were better in Red's route and it had something like a story.

Of the trap eroge I've played so far I think I liked Houkago Josou Net Idol the most. Starts off rapey but once the MC gets into it the scenes are p. hot and the resolution to the central conflict is hilarious in that way porny things are. That's one I had to read with machine translation but only a couple of lines came out total nonsense; 90% of the time I could get the gist or tell exactly what was happening. That one was all m/m, I'm reading through Otome Days now and it's more of a big visual novel with trap x girls. We'll see how machine translation does with that.

I like the ones with trap MCs since I like scenes where they crossdress for whatever reason and then try to figure out why they like it/keep doing it in addition to the porn and that's where I think the Japanese stuff really outshines the Western stuff. It's more of a focus on discovery and the MC finding value in a side of them they'd hated or hadn't been developed before. In all your English language stuff scenes like that are p. much always "faaaaaaaaaaag, if you're gonna wear a skirt you might as well be a trashy bimbo slut ya fairy".
